Resident Evil 6 Rated For Xbox One And PlayStation 4

Well it looks like Capcom might be looking to resurrect yet another last-gen game on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as Resident Evil 6 has been rated for both of those consoles in Korea.

If a game is going to rise from the dead and come back to haunt modern players, it makes sense that is would be the Resident Evil series, which is utterly packed with all sorts of undead monstrosities.

News of Resident Evil 6 's possible exhumation comes to us from Gematsu, who inform us that the game officially been listed for rating by the Korean Rating Board.

Resident Evil 6 first crawled onto the scene in 2012 when it launched for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and was then launched on PCthe following year. The most recent chapter in the tale of Racoon City and its deadly (and eventually global) zombie outbreak, it makes sense that Capcom would want to use an updated version of the game to build buzz for their upcomingfirst person shooter, Umbrella Corps .

Early reports point to Umbrella Corps being a first-person online shooter, which would certainly be a dramatic departure from the Resident Evil formula. Then again, many would argue that the series has been “dramatically departed” from its formula following Resident Evil 3 . The series became less about surviving a deadly outbreak with limited resources and more about action-heavy encounters, stylish cutscenes and ridiculous characters.

It's a bit odd that Capcom would want to focus on bringing Resident Evil 6 to modern consoles since it didn't receive the warmest of welcomes when it was originally launched. It sits at a 67 critic score on Metacritic, which isn't exactly terrible, but fans have the game listed at a much lower 49. Then again, maybe they'll be adding in some fun new features that will convince naysayers to give Resident Evil 6 a second try. Either way, bringing an old game back from the dead on newer consoles is pretty much common practice these days, so I suppose I shouldn't be too shocked if Resident Evil 6 joins those ranks.

As always, we're interested in hearing what our readers have to say on this matter. Did you miss out on Resident Evil 6 and would you welcome a remastered version on newer consoles? Did you love the original game and see a second purchase in your future? Are you in the camp that feels like maybe Capcom should have picked another title, maybe one that was well received, to bring to the new generation? If so, what game would you like to play a remastered version of? Let us know in the comments section below.

New Resident Evil Shooter Trailer Shows Off A Perplexing Addition To The Franchise

New Resident Evil Shooter Trailer Shows Off A Perplexing Addition To The Franchise

There was a time when Resident Evil was a really solid video game franchise.

was a really solid video game franchise. The third-person shooter was a fantastic competitor against rival survival horror franchises like Silent Hill , and it introduced zombies in a whole new way—and even made them more terrifying. But with the newest trailer announcing a new Resident Evil game, Umbrella Corps , it’s a little difficult to understand exactly which direction the series is going in.  You can view the trailer below.

Here’s what I understand from watching the trailer. For the longest time, Resident Evil has been a third-person survival horror adventure, but Umbrella Corps wants to try to turn it into a competitive shooter like Call Of Duty --basically, a spin-off set in the Resident Evil universe. And here’s why I think that’s a horrible decision. From what I understand by watching the trailer, you will be battling other human beings on a decrepit battleground very much like in Call Of Duty and Battlefield , and zombies will just be running around as an added opponent. Where is the true Resident Evil nature in this?

Resident Evil was built around the idea that zombies were invading Raccoon Cityand you had to fight to stop that invasion and protect the people. But now, it’s been turned into a mindless competitive shooter that won’t even be able to compare to the multitude of success Call Of Duty has seen with its zombie modes. It’s almost as if Capcom just wanted to transform Resident Evil into something more appealing to a different audience, but in the process they had no idea they’d be maddening the true Resident Evil fanbase. At least I’m maddened.

It’s almost like if someone took the Silent Hill franchise, with its glorious horror environment and hellish enemies, and dropped a Call Of Duty multiplayer campaign in the middle of the town and said “Here, go crazy.” The monsters would still be around to thwart you in the heat of combat, but it would no longer be about the monsters. Just as Umbrella Corps will no longer be just about the zombies. Of course, Resident Evil has been on a rough road for awhile now, but at least the gameplay still centered around the idea of zombies and not just about competing against other human players online.

The single-player mode doesn’t even do the franchise justice. Because even then, it still feels like another Call Of Duty game. And there’s nothing wrong with Call Of Duty . It’s great for what it is, maybe one of the best first-person shooters out there, but Call Of Duty is its own thing. When Resident Evil tries to do the zombie thing too, just not as well, it’s disheartening.

Now I don’t want to completely judge the game before playing it—I’d love to review the game to see how it truly plays and if the gameplay is more rewarding than I judged from the trailer. I also understand the game is not a Resident Evil game, but set in the Resident Evil universe. I get that. And when I think about it as a separate entity from the Resident Evil franchise, then it doesn't sound so bad, because then I'm thinking about it as a competitive team shooter and not as a Resident Evil game. It all comes down to me actually taking some time to play the game and seeing for myself how I feel about it. Because, as a separate game, it probably could be a lot of fun to use the crazy weapons like the Brainer showcased in the first trailer.

As a long-time fan of classic Resident Evil games, it’s hard to see the franchise changing so much, and not for the better, even with spin-offs like this. I only hope that Resident Evil can find its way again in the horror genre without having to pump out another reboot.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate's Jack the Ripper DLC might be coming soon

Assassin's Creed Syndicate's Jack the Ripper DLC might be coming soon

Despite only being out for a month, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s first major DLC might already be on the way if a recent Achievement list posting is anything to go by.

Ubisoft has been teasing the Jack the Ripper DLC since before the game’s release and is most likely the first expansion due out. These trophy/achievement lists are often discovered when a game is on the verge  of coming out, so it is safe to assume that Ubisoft is preparing for the launch.

While it was assumed that the DLC would task the player with hunting down one of history’s most famous serial killers, the trophy descriptions have put some of that into doubt. With a description such as “Scare an enemy and make him kill someone else by mistake,” who’s to say we won’t be stepping into the killer’s shoes?

Whenever new games come out or new hardware comes out, one of the big problems is that some of the old accessories you've become acquainted with oftentimes don't work with newer games. Well, for Ultra Street Fighter IV on the PS4, the game will work with older fightsticks.

Over on the PlayStation blogsthird-party production director at SCEA, Gio Corsi, made the comments about how the Ultra Street Fighter IV for the PS4 will be backward compatible with licensed PS3 fightsticks. This was highlighted along with a new launch trailer for the game that you can check out below.

Ultra Street Fighter IV is due for release on May 26th for the PS4, and in addition to enabling gamers to bring their favorite PS3 fightstick along for the ride, from MadCatz to Hori to everything else in between.

Capcom and Sony are pretty pumped about the release of the game, which is a leveled-up rendition of Super Street Fighter IV , which itself was an upgrade over Street Fighter IV . Yeah, it's Capcom... what did you expect?

For the PS4 rendition of the game – an exclusive console port that isn't available on the Xbox One by the way – they've gone and decided to hone in on the Holy Grail of eighth-gen, the golden chalice of gaming: 1080pat 60fps.

It doesn't mention on the blog if it's hard-locked at 60fps, but if it is then that's a great thing because hard-locked 60fps gameplay for Street Fighter IV would be pretty sweet. The game would definitely benefit from the smooth gameplay.

Even still, 60fps without drops would make for a perfect way to see the game in action at this year's EVO, assuming the tournament organizers are willing to feature Ultra Street Fighter IV on PS4s.

The game will also feature all of the costume DLC for the game that has been released for the series up to this point. This also includes the latest DLC clothing packs for the game, which means you have the Vacation and Wild costume packs to consider as well. It's kind of telling that Street Fighter IV has been supported by Capcom for the entirety of the seventh generation of gaming and all the way into eighth gen. Crazy, right?

The devs have also addressed some minor input lag that was present in the PS3 versions of Street Fighter IV when it came to the fightstick support, so that minor issue is being addressed.

You won't have to wait long to get your hands on Ultra Street Fighter IV , which includes many of your favorite characters, including the new faces such as Rolento and Decapre, as well as Ryu, Ken and the rest of the gang.

You can grab a few more details about the game and the fightstick compatibility by visiting the official website.

How Street Fighter 5 Is Different From Street Fighter 4

How Street Fighter 5 Is Different From Street Fighter 4

Capcom hasn't said too much about Street Fighter 5 since announcing it in December.

since announcing it in December. In a new interview, franchise producer Yoshinori Ono broke the silence and shared a few hints about what we can expect from the new-gen fighting game.

Ono told Edgethat Street Fighter 5 will build on the foundation from SF4 . He says it's going to be larger than the older game as a result: We’ve been working on Street Fighter 4 for the past seven years now. There’s been a lot of rebalancing and so on, but the game is still going strong, even today. All this means that, with Street Fighter 5 , we have a fantastic opportunity to create something with a larger scope, a game that encompasses all that Street Fighter has become in the last few years, but which also expands on that to become something it has never been before as well. So now we want to create something that nobody is expecting. It’s going to be a title that caters to fans, of course, but one that also invites completely new players onto the scene.

Street Fighter 4 was about reviving a passion. Street Fighter 5 is about growing that passion.
The other big difference that Ono mentioned between the two games is that Street Fighter 5 was a "hundred times easier" to start than SF4 .

"The passion around Street Fighter is currently such that the internal team within Capcom has been incredibly eager. There have been far fewer obstacles and far less stress."

It's hard to imagine Capcom ever putting up resistance to a new Street Fighter , considering it's one of their biggest franchises. The years of Street Fighter 4 re-releases make it easy to forget the near-decade wait for the base game, though. The Capcom brass were skeptical of making another numbered sequel in the series back in the early 2000s. It's not surprising that their attitude would change after they made millions off SF4 , Super Street Fighter 4 , Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition and Ultra Street Fighter IV .

Street Fighter 4 will be released on PS4 and PC. Due to an exclusivity deal hammered out by Sony and Capcom, the game won't be debuting on Xbox One. The game will allegedly launch next Spring.

We don't know much about the content of the game. The early gameplay footage did confirm that long-time characters Ryu and Chun-Liwill be part of the roster, along with a redesigned Charlie Nash.
