Apple Hiring iOS Photo Engineer For iPad 2 And Mac

Apple Hiring iOS Photo Engineer For iPad 2 And Mac

Every time Apple posts a new job listing it gives us some idea of what apple is working on, we recently heard that Apple were looking to hire an NFC engineer for the iPad 2 and iPhone 5.

Now the latest job listing from Apple, gives us more evidence that the iPad 2 will come with a built in camera, as they are looking to hire an iOS Photography Software engineer.

Apple iPad

The job listing states that the engineer will be responsible for delivering photography applications form the Mac and iPad platforms, so Apple obviously heav a few more photo applications planned for both iOS and the Mac platform.

The fact that the job listing mentions the iPad, gives us more evidence that the iPad 2 will come with a camera, and we heard earlier today that it could possibly be a 3 megapixel camera in the iPad 2.

Apple has now announced their third iPad, have a look at our handy guide on the iPad 3 vs iPad 2to see the difference between the two versions.

pedalSHIELD Arduino DUE Guitar Pedal Kit (video)

pedalSHIELD Arduino DUE Guitar Pedal Kit (video)

pedalSHIELD is an open hardware, open source system that has been specifically designed as a platform to learn about digital signal processing, synthesisers and guitar effects.

Arduino DUE Guitar Pedal

Guitarists that also enjoy building electronic devices using the Arduino platformmay be interested in a new Arduino guitar pedal shield aptly named the pedalSHIELD.

To be able to use the Arduino pedalSHIELD no in-depth knowledge of electronics or programming is required, but effects can be written in C or C++ or if you prefer to skip the coding part can be directly downloaded from the online library.

Currently the library contains downloadable presets for octave, reverb, delay and even distortion pedals. For more information on the open source pedalSHIELD jump over to the Instructableswebsite for details of everything you will require to build your very own. The pedalSHIELD has three parts:

– The Input Stage or Preamp: Amplifies the guitar input signal and sends it to the Arduino microcontroller to be processed.

– Arduino Board: It does all the Digital Signal Processing (DSP) modifying the signal and adding the effect (delay, echo, distortion, volume…).

– The Output Stage: Once the waveform is processed, the signal is taken from the Arduino DACs and prepared to be sent to the Guitar Amplifier.
This part also includes a Summing Amplifier which is very useful for delay effects like echo or chorus.

For more information on the Arduino guitar pedal watch the video below for a quick two-minute overview of its features and functions. Full specifications are also available from the ElectroSmash website via the link below.

Fallout 4 Confirmed For PlayStation 4, Xbox One And PC

Fallout 4 Confirmed For PlayStation 4, Xbox One And PC

With Fallout 4 teasers released earlier this week Bethesda has today confirmed that the new tile will indeed be launching on PC and both next generation consoles in form of PS4 and Xbox One.

Fallout 4

It has been four years since the launch of Fallout: New Vegas and at the current time very little is know about the new game apart from its name and the platforms it will be available on.

Fallout 4

Pete Hines of Bethesda Softworks explained perviously “The whole reason we went out and acquired the license and that we now own Fallout is that we clearly intended to make more than one. This is not something we’re going to do once and then go away and never do it again. When that will be or how long that will be God only knows, but we acquired it specifically because we wanted to own it and develop it and work on it like we do with The Elder Scrolls.”

As soon as any more information becomes available we will keep you updated as always, and with the E3 games event just around the corner you can expect more details to be made available very soon at Bethesda’s E3 showcase on June 14th 2015.

It also thought that Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop will soon start accepting pre-orders.

Raspberry Pi Model B+ Dual Display VGA Adapter (video)

Raspberry Pi Model B+ Dual Display VGA Adapter (video)

Raspberry Pi Model B+ owners that would like to expand the amount of desktop space available from the single board mini PC , might be interested to know that a new dual monitor VGA adapter has now been created for the Raspberry Pi PC that enables you to use to monitors.

Raspberry Pi

The new dual monitor VGA adapter for the Raspberry Pi Model B+ has been created by Gert van Loo, check out the video after the jump to the learn about this useful adapter.

“The VGA output supports the same resolution as your HDMI one: from 640 x 480 up to 1920 x 1024 at 60fps. At the highest resolution the pixel quality is almost as good as HDMI.

The adapter uses a simple resistor ladder network as a digital-to-analogue converter, so the colour quality depends on how well-balanced your resistors are. There is slight colour banding, and with 6 bits per channel you have a maximum of 262144 colours.

This wasn’t possible on the Model A or B, but now the B+ exposes 40 GPIO pins, there’s more to play with. As well as just allowing you to connect a VGA monitor natively, it also means you can use it as a secondary monitor alongside HDMI. And unlike composite video, the DPI interface can be run independent of the HDMI.

The software for dual screens is still under development, but we expect that to arrive in the next couple of weeks. Running two screens at maximum resolution will consume SDRAM bandwidth, and is yet to be tested.”

Other new features within OS X Yosemite include the ability to take calls from your iMac or MacBook device. Enabling OS X and iOS users to make and receive iPhone calls right on your Mac.

“Just click a phone number you see in Contacts, Calendar, Messages, or Safari. Dial in to a conference call from a Calendar event, and your Mac automatically enters the passcode for you. And if your iPhone rings while it’s charging in the bedroom, you can answer the call on your Mac in the living room — they just have to be on the same Wi‑Fi network. Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Delayed Again Until May 2015 (video)

Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Delayed Again Until May 2015 (video)

Gamers looking forward to the launch of the new Witcher 3 Wild Hunt game that was first expected to launch sometime before the end of 2014 and was pushed back into February 2015.

Witcher 3 Wild Hunt

Will be once again disappointed to learn that the games developers CD Projekt Redhave had to push back the launch date even further into the middle of next year into May 2015.

It seems that CD Projekt Red may have been a little hasty announcing the first delayed February 24th launch date, and even after saying they would be no more delays. Have had to go against their word and push the game’s launch back until May 19th, 2015. CD Projekt Red explains a little more about the issues that have caused the game to be delayed even further:

Dear Gamers,

Ever since we started working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we knew it would be an ambitious game. We wanted, and still aim, to give you an incredible experience, an epic adventure in a vast, completely open fantasy universe.

The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected. When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly.

With this in mind, we took another look at current workloads and what they mean for the team. Even though everyone is working at full speed, we concluded that we need another 12 weeks, so we are shifting the release date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to May 19th, 2015.

We owe you an apology. We set the release date too hastily. It’s a hard lesson, one to take to heart for the future. We know what we want to do to make Wild Hunt one of the best RPGs you will ever play. And we continue to work hard to achieve just that. So, we apologise and ask for your trust.

Thank you for the all support you show us on a daily basis. We truly do appreciate it. It has fueled us in our passion since the start and will continue to do so.

The Board of CD PROJEKT SA

Even though the Witcher 3 Wild Hunt game has been delayed once again, CD Projekt Red don’t seem to have taken the delay lightly and are sure to be creating an awesome sequel for us all to enjoy.

Steve Jobs Responds To iPhone 4 Antenna Problems

Steve Jobs Responds To iPhone 4 Antenna Problems

As we mentioned earlier, a number of iPhone 4 owners are having reception issues with the iPhone 4 when it is held in a certain way.

As we mentioned earlier, a number of iPhone 4 owners are having reception issues with the iPhone 4 when it is held in a certain way. Apple released an official statementwhich basically told users not to hold their iPhone 4 in a certain way.

Rory Sinclair decided to email Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs and he was basically told that he was holding his iPhone 4 wrong, you can see the full email exchange below.

Steve Jobs Responds To iPhone 4 Antenna Problems

Hi Steve

So, um, just got my iPhone 4. Its lovely and all, but this ‘bridge the two antennae to kill your reception’ thing seems to be a bit serious. If I bridge them with my hand or with a piece of metal the bars slowly drop to ‘Searching…’ and then ‘No Service’.

Its kind of a worry. Is it possible this is a design flaw?

Regards

– Rory Sinclair

Steve Jobs’ reply

Nope. Just don’t hold it that way.

Rory then sent Steve Jobs another email which you can see below, along with Steve Jobs’ reply.
I texted someone from the phone and noticed reception dropping as I texted, down to ‘No Service’, so I emailed again:

Actually, its not calls that concern me, but i’ve just been writing a text and its very natural for me as a right-handed person to hold it that way, with the part of my hand at the base of my thumb covering the point the antennae meet, and it kills the reception each time.

I mean, pretty much as soon as i move my hand it comes back, but its pretty crazy… is this the reason Bumpers exist?

– Rory

Steve Job’s replies again

Just don’t hold it that way then.

Hmm.. I persevere:

Well, yeah, thats what i’ll do, but you have to admit thats a workaround, yeah? I mean, normally there aren’t limits to how you can hold a phone.

I seriously dig the phone, its totally amazing, but I think this is what many would call a design flaw.

– Rory

Steve Jobs reply

Sure there are – every phone has these areas of sensitivity, depending on the location of the antenna. Some phones even ship with labels warning customers to not cover certain areas with their hands.

So there you go guys, if you are having reception problems with the iPhone 4, then according to Steve Jobs you are holding your iPhone 4 wrong.

Apple Releases A Statement On iPhone 4 Reception Issues

Apple Releases A Statement On iPhone 4 Reception Issues

Apple [AAPL] has finally released a statement on the iPhone 4 reception issues, and according to Apple, the reason behind the drop in signal when the iPhone 4 is held in a certain way is because of the formula they use for calculating how many bars of signal strength are displayed.

Apple have said that they will be using a new formula  that has been recommenced by AT&T, and they have also mentioned in the letter from Apple about signals dropping when the iPhone 4 is held in a certain way, and said that this can happen on many mobile phones including iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, as well as many Droid, Nokia and RIM phones.

Apple Releases A Statement On iPhone 4 Reception Issues
You can see full details in the press release below, and they have also stated that anyone who is not happy with their iPhone 4 can take it to an Apple store withing 30 days of purchase and receive a full refund.

Apple will be releasing a software update over the next couple of weeks, which will according to them fix the issue, what do our readers think? Have Apple done enough to resolve the issue or should they be doing more, leave a comment below and let us know what you think.

Apple has now released the new iPhone 4S, make sure you have a read of our iPhone 4S reviewand also take a look at our article which explains the difference between the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.

Press Release

Letter from Apple Regarding iPhone 4

Dear iPhone 4 Users,

The iPhone 4 has been the most successful product launch in Apple’s history. It has been judged by reviewers around the world to be the best smartphone ever, and users have told us that they love it. So we were surprised when we read reports of reception problems, and we immediately began investigating them. Here is what we have learned.

To start with, gripping almost any mobile phone in certain ways will reduce its reception by 1 or more bars. This is true of iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, as well as many Droid, Nokia and RIM phones. But some users have reported that iPhone 4 can drop 4 or 5 bars when tightly held in a way which covers the black strip in the lower left corner of the metal band. This is a far bigger drop than normal, and as a result some have accused the iPhone 4 of having a faulty antenna design.

At the same time, we continue to read articles and receive hundreds of emails from users saying that iPhone 4 reception is better than the iPhone 3GS. They are delighted. This matches our own experience and testing. What can explain all of this?

We have discovered the cause of this dramatic drop in bars, and it is both simple and surprising.

Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars. Users observing a drop of several bars when they grip their iPhone in a certain way are most likely in an area with very weak signal strength, but they don’t know it because we are erroneously displaying 4 or 5 bars. Their big drop in bars is because their high bars were never real in the first place.

To fix this, we are adopting AT&T’s recently recommended formula for calculating how many bars to display for a given signal strength. The real signal strength remains the same, but the iPhone’s bars will report it far more accurately, providing users a much better indication of the reception they will get in a given area. We are also making bars 1, 2 and 3 a bit taller so they will be easier to see.

We will issue a free software update within a few weeks that incorporates the corrected formula. Since this mistake has been present since the original iPhone, this software update will also be available for the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G.

We have gone back to our labs and retested everything, and the results are the same— the iPhone 4’s wireless performance is the best we have ever shipped. For the vast majority of users who have not been troubled by this issue, this software update will only make your bars more accurate. For those who have had concerns, we apologize for any anxiety we may have caused.

As a reminder, if you are not fully satisfied, you can return your undamaged iPhone to any Apple Retail Store or the online Apple Store within 30 days of purchase for a full refund.

We hope you love the iPhone 4 as much as we do.

Thank you for your patience and support.

More Screenshots of Samsung’s Upcoming UI

More Screenshots of Samsung’s Upcoming UI

Earlier this month, @evleaks posted an image of the upcoming redesigned homescreen UI Samsung is planning to implement in the upcoming TouchWiz interface.

Earlier this month, @evleaks posted an image of the upcoming redesigned homescreen UI Samsung is planning to implement in the upcoming TouchWiz interface. It did showed the homescreen view, but didn’t give a detail look at what we could expect from Samsung about the upcoming TouchWiz interface.

Now, for those of you who were a little confused about the UI, the notorious @evleaks posted yet another screenshot of the upcoming TouchWiz UI.

touchwiz-ui-new

The image below shows the UI which looks more like the cards similar to the ones found in Google Now. It shows users all the details from monitoring health-related activities to sports to flight and weather information and a lot more.

More from that Samsung home screen. pic.twitter.com/5Z0jKKxXYN

— @evleaks (@evleaks) January 19, 2014

There’s no confirmation if the cards shown above are from Google Now, but it seems different as it also shows some check-ins and media sharing along with the other cards.

Also keep this thing in mind that the UI might be in a “mockup” phase and the real build might turn out to be totally different, if this is the real deal. Additionally, the leaked image doesn’t give us any extra detail about its interface, but its still and interesting find from the notorious leaker.

Well, lets just take this with a grain of salt, as its only official when it comes from the Korean OEM itself. This could be a real deal, but we’re not going to put all are eggs in one basket as the final interface might turn out to be totally different. We’ll update you if we get more information.

Redesigned TouchWiz UI Screenshots Leaked

Redesigned TouchWiz UI Screenshots Leaked

Recently, Samsung introduced a bunch of new tablets with a redesigned UI, and it seems that it’s time for Samsung to give a new look to the TouchWiz UI on its handsets as well.

Recently, some screenshots have surfaced online, claiming it to be the redesigned TouchWiz users interface that Samsung is exploring for its upcoming devices, thanks to none other than @evleaks who has a very decent track record of releasing unannounced information and images, which turns out to be correct as well.

touchwiz-ui-new

Well, if you ask me, it makes sense for Samsung to update the user interface of their smartphones, considering that other manufacturers have already given a revamped look to their UIs. At first look, it looks more simple and seems to have carried some of the traits of the stock Android.

TouchWiz has remained unchanged from sometime, but things might change with the Samsung Galaxy S5, which is expected to launch at the Mobile World Congress 2014 in late February.

Despite the decent track record, a pinch of salt is recommended as there’s no confirmation from the Korean OEM about it. It would be great if Samsung could tweak TouchWiz a little bit with a new look and performance improvements, considering it can be really heavy on resources at times.

What do you think? Do you like this new UI?

Samsung To Introduce Fingerprint Sensor In Galaxy S5, No Iris Technology (Rumor)

Samsung To Introduce Fingerprint Sensor In Galaxy S5, No Iris Technology (Rumor)

I hardly recall a day when we don’t hear about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5.

I hardly recall a day when we don’t hear about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5. Everyday, there’s a new rumor, giving us a glimpse of what it could bring at the table. Previously, we heard it will pack a fingerprint sensoralong with a possibility of Iris technology.

According to a new report from Korean shores, Samsung might introduce a fingerprint sensor in its upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5, but there will be no Iris technology as its not mature enough to be a part of the handset.

samsung5

According to the report from The Korean Hearld, citing unnamed sources, Samsung is working on a fingerprint sensor that will be placed under the display, so users can simply scan their fingerprints on the display.

Among the different types of biometric sensors that Samsung is testing for its Galaxy S5, the tech giant will go for fingerprint authentication rather than unintuitive user experience of iris recognition, ” said an industry source who declined to be named.  “ Who would want to put their handset up close to their eyes for authentication in places like movie theaters and bed, or even while they are driving? ,” the industry source added.

The report also cites other reasons why it may not be feasible to implement Iris technology as the company needs to add an additional camera for recognition purposes, which will make the smartphone bigger in size.

The Korea Herald is a very reputable publication, but we’ll still take this one with appropriate amount of salt. Nothing is official until it comes from Samsung itself. Rumors suggest that the handset will make an official appearance in mid-March in London, followed by retail in April.

Let’s see what happens, we’ll update you if anything comes up.

There’s no end to the Samsung Galaxy S5 rumors until it’s officially unveiled by the folks at Samsung.

There’s no end to the Samsung Galaxy S5 rumors until it’s officially unveiled by the folks at Samsung. Earlier today, we heard that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5will come with a fingerprint sensor, and the addition of an iris scanning technologyis unlikely.

There’s a new rumor in town that sheds some light on more specifications of the handset, which points out several things we’ve already heard before. According to this new rumor, Samsung Galaxy S5will come with a 20MP camera, opposed to the 16MP ISOCELL camera we’ve heard since the rumors started pouring in.

galaxy-s5-concept11

The rumor surfaced from PhoneArena, whose tipster suggest that it will pack a QHD displayand a 2,900 mAh battery, something we already know. The same report also suggests that it will pack some sort of iris sensor that can be used to unlock the device, opposed  to what we heard earlier today that making it might not be feasible as the technology is not mature enough, but let’s just see what else this rumor states.

Lastly, the same tipster claims that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 will carry the same plastic form factor, so users who are expecting a metallic chassis will be disappointed. Well, this is something we’ve heard before, but many other rumors suggest that we might see two versions: a premium one with a metallic designwhile the other one will carry the same plastic chassis.

Lets just take this rumor with a grain of salt, as nothing is confirmed at this point. There are all sorts of rumors going on all over the internet, and people are firing blind shots in every direction about the possible specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S5. But, we’ll definitely find out everything we need to know very soon as the handset is rumored to see the light of the day in March at a press event in London.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Launch Event Set For March 14th (Rumor)

Samsung Galaxy S4 Launch Event Set For March 14th (Rumor)

It would appear that we have some more details on the Samsung Galaxy S4 release date, we had previously heard that the Samsung Galaxy S4 would be unveiled at a press event in Moscow on the 15th of March, but now according to a new rumor for Eldar Murtzain , Samsung will be announcing the Galaxy S4 on the 14th of March at a press event in New York.

It is possible that Samsung has two event planned for the Samsung Galaxy S4launch, one in New York on the 14th of the US version of the handset and one in Moscow on the 15th for the European version of the device, which would tie in with the rumors we have been hearing about one Galaxy S4 with an 8 core processor and one with a quad core processor.

Samsung Galaxy S4

Yesterday we saw a leaked roadmap for the Samsung Galaxy S4 which included a quad core Exynos 5440 processor, we suspect that this is for the US version of the device and the European version will feature Samsung’s 8 core processor.

The European version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 sis rumored to feature 4.99 inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, Samsung are also expected to debut their new 8 core Exynos Octa 5 processor in their Galaxy S4 and it will apparently come clocked at 1.8GHz.

Other rumored specifications on the Samsung Galaxy S4 include 2GB of RAM and a choice of either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of built in storage, plus a 2 megapixel front facing camera for video chat and a 13 megapixel rear camera for photos and video.

As well as some impressive specifications the Samsung Galaxy S4 is also rumored to come with some new features, which include touchless gestures and some new eye tracking technology which is called Eye Scroll and Eye Pause.

One thing to note is that we previously heard that Samsung would launch the Samsung Galaxy S4in the UK some time between the 15th and 22nd of April, we also heard that the Galaxy S4 would launch in the US in late May or early June.

If Samsung are announcing the Galaxy S4 in the US on the 14th I suspect they will actually release the device is the US a lot sooner than we had previously thought as a global release would increase sales of the device at launch significantly.

Samsung are probably going to release the Samsung Galaxy S4 in Europe and the US at the same time, making US customers wait a couple of months for the device is probably not what Samsung want this year, and we suspect it will launch in the US in April at the same time as the UK and the rest of Europe.
