Production for the Han Solo Star Wars movie is set to begin in about a year, so the casting process is in full-swing. The movie will focus on the space smuggler’s early adventures, so they’re in need of a new actor to play the young Han. Finding someone new to portray the quick-witted scoundrel Han Solo is a tall order.

The Hollywood Reporter claimed that producers from Disney and Lucasfilm have auditioned more than 2,500 actors (in-person and on tape) trying to find the perfect Han. Notable auditions include Dave Franco (Neighbors, 22 Jump Street), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass), and Miles Teller (Whiplash, Fantastic Four).

Others being considered for the young space smuggler include Chandler Riggs from The Walking Dead, Rami Malek from Mr. Robot, and Jurassic World’s Nick Robinson. An agent was quoted saying, “This has to be the easiest movie to audition for. They are seeing everyone.” The Star Wars franchise has a history of including new faces in the cast and the director has made statements indicating this, so it’s likely the new Solo won’t be well known.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller have co-director positions on the film, who have previously seen success with The Lego Movie and the Jump Street series. Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon are onboard as writers. Kasdan confirmed this will be his final Star Wars film talking to a German newspaper Bild: “I did four Star Wars movies. That’s more than enough.”

The Han Solo film is scheduled for May 2018. The first spin-off film, Gareth Edward’s Rogue One, is set to release December 16, 2016.

Perhaps the biggest shock out of the Star Wars revival that Disney brought about is that, outside of the main saga, there would be stand-alone Star Wars films. The first of these, Rogue One, is slated for a December 2016 release. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has released some details about these spin-offs.

In a recent interview, Kennedy said that the filmmakers will have a degree of artistic freedom in creating these films.

“The standalone films can be a wide variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe,” Kennedy said. “They are really being designed as standalone movies which is fantastic for the filmmakers we bring in, and the actors we hire, because it’s a different sensibility.”

Kennedy also said that these spinoffs would not create even more spinoffs, and that these movies could take place any in the Star Wars timeline.

Tom Clancy's The Division Review: Rescuing A City From Post-Apocalyptic Disaster

Tom Clancy's The Division Review: Rescuing A City From Post-Apocalyptic Disaster

While The Division had a mildly rocky launch on March 8, it seems that the game has gotten its stuff together and has been carrying on for most without issue.

had a mildly rocky launch on March 8, it seems that the game has gotten its stuff together and has been carrying on for most without issue. And while the post-apocalyptic story set in an abandoned New York City was gripping, I quickly learned that The Division was less about the story and more about the action.

This is a strange feeling for me, because when it comes to games, I dedicate myself wholly to the game’s story. But in Tom Clancy’s The Division , the game is not so much about the story—and it’s okay. The game is about immersing yourself in an open-world map and forming a camaraderie with other online players to either explore the world or complete missions together.

As I played through The Division , I chose to go at it solo. I’m not much of a team player when it comes to video games. At the beginning of the game, you unlock a Safe House in Brooklyn and it is in this Safe House where you can socialize with other players who are running around. One thing I truly hated, at least when I played, was in order to verify your identity, you need to talk to one guy sitting at a table, yet there are many other new players trying to talk to this same guy. I have heard that people have been kind and stood in a single file line and took turns speaking to him, but when I played, I kept getting pushed out of the way. It was a horrid experience, but I eventually was able to verify my identity. Check out the trailer below.

There have been many questions about whether or not the missions are harder when you play alone. The first couple missions were no problem for me, but as I went on, missions got more difficult to complete on my own. Every time I would almost get through a mission on the last wave of enemies, and I’d die, I’d have to redo the waves of enemies all over again. But that’s a part of playing games like these and yes, I may rage when I die and shout vulgarities and throw my hands in the air, but I wouldn’t be a hardcore gamer if I didn’t.

The game design itself is stunning with a visually-breathtaking depiction of a post-apocalyptic New York City. Cars are broken-down in the middle of the roads, buildings desolate and decaying and civilians wandering around and trying to survive. Because of the beautiful imagery of the map, I’m glad that this is an open-world game so that I can explore whatever my heart desires and go down whatever street that entices me.

The movement system for my character was a little wonky. I just wish it was smoother for when I was caught in the midst of gunfights. A lot of times when I pressed “X” to hide behind a crate, it sometimes would bounce me back to standing in the line of fire from the enemy, and it does this numerous times. And when I would already be frustrated about failing a mission several times, this little nuisance would just add to it. The movement of the character in general felt wonky though, like when I would run, I would have less control over my character, running into walls and getting stuck on corners of things. This was another especially annoying aspect to tackle during a gunfight—getting stuck on a corner when you’re getting shot at is pretty maddening, especially when it causes you to die. I just wish those mechanics would’ve been more ironed out.

Another small quarrel I have is with the character customization. For me, when there is a female character I can create, I usually choose to create a female character over a male character. It’s more fun to have a character that resembles me, or so I like to think. But when you go to create a female character in The Division , apparently women in a post-apocalyptic world all shave their heads. There are like four different shaved head or short hair options, and one long hair option tied in a pony tail. What gives? I understand this is the apocalypse and women’s hairstyles should be the least of your worries, but why have so many short hair options and one long hair option? Again, it’s a small quarrel, but something that’s worth questioning. You have an open-world game with so many options for exploration, but very little character customization options?
Overall, I enjoyed Tom Clancy’s The Division . I absolutely love open-world games like this because there is just so much to do, it’s hard to know where to even begin. Like walking into Disney World and not knowing which ride to go for first. It’s a visually-stunning game that can keep me busy for hours.

The Division DLC Will Be Offering Free And Paid Content In First Year

The Division DLC Will Be Offering Free And Paid Content In First Year

Ubisoft has just rolled out the content roadmap for The Division , the highly anticipated third-person shooter that drops on March 8th.

, the highly anticipated third-person shooter that drops on March 8th. While a lot of MMO-type games have a problem with producing end-game content, Ubisoft has already set out a year's worth of content to keep gamers coming back for more.

The company recently sent out a press release with a trailer that visually breaks down what gamers can expect from the free and paid expansions released over the next year, and you can get a glimpse of it below.

As pointed out on Shacknews, gamers who purchase The Division for $60 next Tuesday on the Xbox One, PS4 or PC, will automatically find themselves eligible to receive two free major expansions. The first will be called The First Incursion, and it's designed right off the bad to cater to those high-level players looking for good end-game content. The First Incursion will go live in April and will see players fighting “unstoppable enemies” to get a hold of some high-level loot.

The second free expansion will launch in May, just a month after The Division gets its first expansion. The second expansion is called Conflict, and it will add new play options and conflicts to the game's Dark Zone. This expansion will supposedly give gamers more to do in the Dark Zone as they battle other players, battle other NPCs and attempt to get a hold of some really good loot.

After those two expansions in April and May are released, the next three expansions are all paid.

Starting in June, season pass holders and those who purchased the limited collector's editions of The Division will gain access to the first paid expansion called Underground. This will see players attempting to discover what's happening in the sewers and underground tunnels of New York. The missions are supposedly designed for teams of four, as they will track down enemies who have scattered amongst the weaving underground network of the Big Apple.

Later in the summer Ubisoftwill release the next paid expansion called Survival, this will pit players against an extremely harsh environment where survival becomes a challenge in itself. Players will have to battle against the elements and others while attempting to scavenge for supplies and deal with the with harsh realities of winter.

The third and final paid expansion for 2016 will be Last Stand. This will be made available late in the year and judging by the trailer it's like a tower defense mode where players will work with others to establish defenses around their base and fend themselves off from an onslaught of enemies.

The Division is set to release on March 8th for the Xbox One, PS4and PC. You can look for the first free expansion to go live next month in April.

The Division Reviews Won't Be Coming Until After Launch

The Division Reviews Won't Be Coming Until After Launch

One of the big no-nos these days in the world of game reviews is for a big AAA publisher to release a game and then have reviews embargoed until the day of release or post release.

One of the big no-nos these days in the world of game reviews is for a big AAA publisher to release a game and then have reviews embargoed until the day of release or post release. Ubisoft has been in the hotbed of release day embargoes before but this time they offer a detailed explanation of why they're using that method for The Division .

Over on the official Ubisoft blogthey explain that the beta has played host to more than 6.4 million players, including those who signed up and managed to get in to beta test the game over the various beta weekends, and those who pre-ordered The Division just to play the beta. In conclusion of looking over the stats, Ubisoft decided that the number of players they received during the beta offered a more real-world experience of what The Division is like and that granting reviewers access to an early build where server stress, player counts and the random structure of online play wouldn't be as present would hinder the reviews from being as accurate as possible.
Since it’s impossible for us to populate the servers in a way that would adequately replicate playing The Division on launch day, reviewers will start playing the game along with everyone else when it’s released on March 8 – after the servers go live officially and globally at 00:01AM Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT).
While this sounds like an excuse to delay reviews to the point where they only appear with the launch of the game, this does make some sense. This is almost a direct opposite approach to what happened with a game like SimCity back in 2013, where select game journalists from some of the biggest outlets were given exclusive access to the game on Electronic Arts' private servers in order to review the title. Most of the early reviews were glowing because everything ran great on EA's private servers. In a real world test, with real players, with real server stress, things did not go so well with SimCity and a lot of people found it impossible to play, causing all sorts of massive problems for countless gamers.

Of course, the flip side is that Ubisoft withholding reviews until launch day could mean that they don't have a lot of confidence in their product and that it may not be as good as some people may have hoped for.

According to the post, the servers for The Division will go live 00:01AM Australian Eastern Daylight Time, and they expect to have a fully populated game world the first day out. They also expect to see some day-one reviews and impressions even though early review copies haven't been sent out. In a way, we could know who actually played the game and who is basing their review on the beta build. In fact, Ubisoft anticipates that a lot of the day one impressions may be based on the beta build but they still state that they're looking forward to those impressions nonetheless.

For gamers it's a bit of a rock and a hard place because if you wanted to buy the game day-one it wouldn't really be feasible to check out early reviews since the only things that would be available for The Division at that point would be beta impressions or early first-impressions. And if you were one of those die-hard fans who pre-ordered but were still kind of skeptical and only wanted reaffirmation that your purchase was worth it, having to wait until after the game releases to check the reviews creates a serious inconvenience.

We'll see how this all plays out come March 8th when The Division finally launches for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

George Lucas apparently "really liked" The Force Awakens

George Lucas apparently "really liked" The Force Awakens

George Lucas is one of the lucky few.

George Lucas is one of the lucky few. He’s been to “the other side.” He’s already seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens . And his verdict? Apparently it’s pretty good, says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kennedy said that it’s been difficult for Lucas, who was intimately involved in the first six Star Wars films, “watching this go on without his direct involvement. At the same time, he really wanted to step away.”

With this being the first Star Wars film without Lucas’s involvement, many fans are somewhat worried over the next film. As well, Lucas had made comments about the direction the film was heading earlier in the year.

“The issue was ultimately, they looked at the stories and they said, ‘We want to make something for the fans,'” Lucas said. “I said, ‘All I wanted to do was tell a story of what happened–it started here and it went there. It’s all about generations and the issues of fathers and sons and grandfathers.’

Star Wars: The Force Awakens releases on December 18th (in case you haven’t heard by now).

Xbox One Division Bundle Announced By Ubisoft And Microsoft

Xbox One Division Bundle Announced By Ubisoft And Microsoft

Microsoft has been consistent in offering a lot of bundle deals for potential consumers, constantly announcing different ways to get one or more games at a discounted rate.

Microsoft has been consistent in offering a lot of bundle deals for potential consumers, constantly announcing different ways to get one or more games at a discounted rate. The latest bundle includes a digital copy of Ubisoft's upcoming post-apocalyptic title The Division and a 1TB Xbox One unit.

Major Nelsondropped the news over on the blog, where it was revealed that the 1TB Xbox One home console would come with The Division and that those who pre-order are guaranteed instant access to the upcoming closed beta test for the game that starts on January 28.

The bundle is available from participating retailer and e-tailers for $399.00. It's another competitively priced bundle that makes gamers stop and think about whether or not the console will be worth the plunge for $400 when it comes with 1TB and a free copy of The Division .

The regular 500GB units of the Xbox One are being shopped around from retailers at the regular $350 price point but dropped as low as $250 during the Black Friday rush when discounts, bundles and rebates were taken into account. Even despite dropping as low as $250, the Xbox One still couldn't outsell the PlayStation 4 during the vital holiday sales window offered throughout the month of November and early December.

The year wrapped up with Sony taking the final two months in strides, further cementing their lead with the PlayStation 4. Worse yet is that according to reports from Venture Beat, all the deep discounts and bundles weren't enough to help put any of Microsoft's exclusives on the board for the top 10 throughout the December NPD charts...much less the top 10 games for all of 2015.

At the moment, GameStop is offering pre-owned Xbox One units with 500GB at the $289.99 price point, which isn't all that bad. A pre-owned 1TB Xbox One unit is $339.99, which is $60 off the above mentioned bundle containing The Division .

Brand new bundles containing a 1TB Xbox One and Rainbow Six Siege are also available at the exact same price as the new bundle, costing gamers about $399.99.

I do worry if all of the bundles diminish the potential value in the eyes of some gamers of the Xbox console? Or if it creates confusion on what's worth getting? Back in 2014 and 2015, Microsoft also had a bunch of bundles for just about every major game that came out. Some of the bundles fared well like the Madden NFL bundles, while others were completely ignored like the Sunset Overdrive bundles.

We'll see how well the lure of closed beta access to The Division works for this latest cross-promotional bundle between Ubisoft and Microsoft. So far, all of the discounts, cuts and slashes in prices haven't been able to give Microsoft a leg-up on Sony, even in their hometown of the good 'ole U.S., of A, a territory where Microsoft used to dominate during the seventh generation with the Xbox 360.

The Division is set for release on March 8 for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Back at E3 2012 LucasArts announced Star Wars 1313, a third-person action-adventure game. The game was cancelled in 2013 after Disney closed LucasArts, but there are talks of the game being brought back.

In a recent interview, Kathleen Kennedy, the current president of Lucasfilm, discussed the game with Slash Film. In the interview Kennedy discussed how she agreed that the concept art for 1313 looked stunning and that Lucasfilm is “spending a lot of time” figuring out how to resurrect the game.

“Unbelievable,” Kennedy said of 1313’s concept art. “So our attitude is, we don’t want to throw any of that stuff away. It’s gold. And it’s something we’re spending a lot of time looking at, pouring through, discussing, and we may very well develop those things further. We definitely want to.”

starwars1313

The game was said to be coming to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 when it was announced, and would feature Boba Fett as the main character. Kennedy’s comments could be taken in any number of ways. The themes of the game could potentially be utilized for other projects, such as the Boba Fett film that will be made in the future.

1313 could also be brought back to life as a game, but everything at this point is just speculation. If the game is brought back from the scrapheap it would have to be done through Electronic Arts who have become the developer for Star Wars games.

Ubisoft Could Have A New Owner Soon

Ubisoft Could Have A New Owner Soon

Vivendi Universal is probably best known for having owned Activision Blizzard before Activision Blizzard paid out for their own independence, leaving Vivendi Universal high and dry.

Vivendi Universal is probably best known for having owned Activision Blizzard before Activision Blizzard paid out for their own independence, leaving Vivendi Universal high and dry. Well, they're not so high and dry anymore. They want back into the gaming sphere and they're attempting to do so through Ubisoft.

According to an article by Tech Crunch, Vivendi Universal has purchased enough stock in Yves and Michel Guillemot's software publishing businesses to get voting rights as members of the board. Yves Guillemot heads up Ubisoft while his brother Michel Guillemot heads up the mobile subsidiary Gameloft.

Vivendi Universal, owners of various media enterprises, including the Universal Music Group and video upload service DailyMotion, has acquired 17% of Gameloft through stock acquisitions, which gives them 15% voting rights on business management decisions, according to Tech Crunch. In the case of Ubisoft, they've acquired 10% of the company's stock.

What makes this story really interesting is that both Yves and Michel Guillemot do not want Vivendi Universal involved at all. In fact, they are looking for other investors to put money into both Gameloft and Ubisoft to prevent Vivendi from barging in and taking over.

So why would Ubisoft be so worried about Vivendi Universal if they're one of the top publishers of software in the world? And why would Vivendi Universal be so interested in Ubisoft all of a sudden?

Well, there are a few possibilities about both questions. On one hand Vivendi Universal wasn't making the best of decisions when they were in control of Activision Blizzard. We can see now that Acti-Blizzard have been rolling in a lot of cash since the split, and have really branched the company out with very lucrative intellectual properties. They've also moved into the film and television production arena, tapping their IP to reach a much broader audience in addition to their already expansive video game reach. They're working on a Skylanders TV show as well as Call of Duty properties, potentially TV shows and movies.

Ubisoft probably doesn't want a company who did little and next to nothing when they had Sierra Interactive under their belt, and appeared to do little more than hold back Activision Blizzard with their lucrative IP.

In the case of Vivendi Universal, there's really no downside for them buying into Ubisoft. It's a company with a lot of reach and powerful IP at the moment, from the Tom Clancy games such as Splinter Cell , Ghost Reconand Rainbow Six , to the Raving Rabbids and Assassin's Creed brands... there's as much potential under Ubisoft's belt with their IPs as there is with Activision Blizzard. Heck, there is already an Assassin's Creed movie in the works and a Raving Rabbids television show. Vivendi would be right back into the big leagues if they could gain control of Ubisoft.

The real question is: will Ubisoft fight them tooth and nail on this or will they eventually step away? It doesn't sound like the Guillemots want to give up without a fight. It's also not hard to see why both companies would want to fight over fairly well known and lucrative properties that could be big business in more than just the gaming arena.

The Last Of Us PS3 Vs. PS4 Cinematic Graphics Comparison

The Last Of Us PS3 Vs. PS4 Cinematic Graphics Comparison

A new video released compares the cinematic graphics from The Last of Us on the PlayStation 3 to The Last of Us on the PS4.

on the PS4. The breakdown features 10 whole minutes of side-by-side comparisons between both versions of the game, and the differences may or may not be obvious to everyone.

The Last of Us: Remastered is dropping on the PlayStation 4 tomorrow. The new version includes increased visual fidelity, better graphics enhancements, as well as native 1920 x 1080p. Naughty Dog also took an opportunity to boost up the game's frame-rate from the barely-hitting-30 frames per second on the PlayStation 3 to 60 buttery frames per second on the PlayStation 4.

Naughty Dog decided to leverage the power of the PlayStation 4 to up the core specs of the award-winning 2013 outing from Sony.

The Last of Us Remastered includes all the previously released content for the game, including the DLC and add-ons that found a kind home on the PlayStation 3. Players will get the extra content for free, including the single-player and multiplayer content.

There have also been rumors that new DLC is being planned to release for both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4 versions of the game at some point down the line. The DLC is supposed to be a brand new multiplayer map pack that will extend the replay for players who like to get competitive against one another in the online portion of the game.

For those of you who don't know what The Last of Us is about, the game follows Joel and Ellie as they trek across America to Baltimore. Joel is an older guy who suffered through some terrible tragedies 20 years prior to the game's time frame where the current events take place. After suffering the tragedy Joel takes to the bottle, becoming a husk of his former self. Ellie is an outgoing young teenager who has suffered through her own forms of tragedy and setback in a life riddled with a fungal infection that turns humans into ravenous zombie types.

Players will spend the majority of the game playing as Joel, looking to keep and eye out on Ellie and protecting her from harm's way as they venture through cities overrun with deadly bandits, as well as venture through cannibal infested areas.

The game has no shortage of hard-hitting, dramatic moments that will keep players on their toes while they fight off all manner of obstacles, whether it be in the form of the infected fungal monsters to fully armed raiders.

If the graphics comparison above proves to you that the game is worth owning on the PS4, then you can look for the game to arrive digitally and on retail shelves tomorrow for $49.99.

Ubisoft Delays The Division's Beta

Ubisoft Delays The Division's Beta

The Division has been on a downward slope when it comes to hype.

has been on a downward slope when it comes to hype. It was at first one of the most anticipated games of the eighth gen, and now it's just another third-person shooter. Gamers would have had an opportunity to determine just how hyped they should be for the game with the beta, except it's been delayed.

Eurogamergathered word from Ubisoft that the beta test that was originally planned for The Division has been moved out of its original December window and into “early 2016”.

The article states that there will be a test this month but it will be a closed alpha test for Xbox Oneowners only. How do you participate in the test? Well, only those who pre-ordered the game will be able to participate in The Division's closed alpha test while Ubisoft will selectively pick a few other users who register for the test to participate as well.

As is typical with most other closed alpha tests, the game will have an NDA in place so don't expect to see any videos posted publicly on places like DailyMotion or YouTube. However, it is noted that videos can be posted to the game's forums for Ubisoftto take a look at, presumably to help them curbstomp bugs and squash glitches before they move The Division into beta.

The game has been under wraps for quite some time. Originally it was a big go-to title for Ubisoft during trade events, but after they opted to stop using targeted renderingfor promotional material, The Division took a major hit in the visual department and then proceeded to showcase some of the gameplay to an audience of gamers who have largely become disinterested or underwhelmed in the title.

Part of the problem is that The Division was announced a couple of years ago back when Watch Dogs was the talk of the town, but hasn't really made a lot of progress in the public domain to keep people interested. We've only seen small pockets of gameplay here and there and not enough to justify the wait.

We still haven't seen much of the AI or single-player content or anything related to the story stuff, it's mostly all been small snippets of deathmatch gameplay and some manufactured scenes of tension where one player turns on their teammates.

The alpha build that Xbox Onegamers will get their hands on will be fairly hefty, the build clocks in at just over 23GB, so you will need a lot of free space to load this bad boy up.

There are no details on exactly how big the game world will be in the alpha or what exact kind of limitations or restrictions will be in this iteration of The Division , but it's likely that Ubisoftwill cordoned off the areas they don't want gamers venturing into while railing them along on the necessary parts to discover any game-breaking bugs and whatnot.

The Division is still an ambitious title and it's due for release in early 2016, so we'll see if Ubisoft can shape up the game to turn it into something worthwhile before it launches.

Destiny Refer-A-Friend Trailer Shows Off The Exclusive Rewards

Destiny Refer-A-Friend Trailer Shows Off The Exclusive Rewards

While Bungie has already listed the reward details for its upcoming Refer-a-Friend promotion in Destiny , some folks tend to be more visual learners.

, some folks tend to be more visual learners. To that end, the team has put together a handy little video that shows off all of the goods you can earn by helping a new Guardian get to know the universe.

It’s not easy jumping into a new online game, especially when the majority of the game’s community has been chugging along for over a year. Similarly, not all higher level players want to chaperone a newbie through areas that don’t really pose a threat to them anymore. To help make these connections more rewarding, Bungie has put together a Refer-a-Friend event for Destiny that give seasoned players and Kinderguardians some additional goodiesfor hooking up and thrashing some alien scum.

It looks like the process for this Refer-a-Friendpromotion will actually be pretty straightforward. Once an experienced player has “linked” with a newcomer, they can team up and head to the Speaker to receive a special quest. It seems like the purpose of these quests is to introduce new players to Destiny ’suniverse and various systems, as well as get in some solid leveling with an experienced player at their side. For the pros, Refer-a-Friend serves as a reminder that even tackling lower level content in Destiny can yield rewards, give you a chance to knock out some side missions and just have fun with other players.

The Refer-a-Friend trailerdoes a good job of highlighting all of those sweet new rewards, which include a couple of new emotes, a new Shader, a new Emblem, a rad new Sparrow and even a new Sword. Everything here seems pretty great, but I’ve absolutely gots to get me that emote boasting the co-op handshake/dance.

The Refer-a-Friend promotion is free and, given the upcoming holidays, this is pretty much perfect timing for something like this. Despite Destiny ’s huge success, there are still plenty of people who either don’t own the game yet or might be planning to start from scratch is Santa decides to finally deliver that next-gen console this year.

Despite all of that, the internet is still the internet, so I suppose I shouldn’t be so shocked to see a bunch of negative comments attached to the trailer. Some folks seem to be forgetting that there isn’t a price tag attached to the Refer-a-Friend rewards and are thus claiming that this is some sort of weird attempt to suck even more moneyout of players. Others appear to be offended that they would be expected to jump through the hoopsof meeting/playing with someone new in order to earn these rewards, rather than just have them handed out as a thank you for their months of dedication to the game. I find this frustrating, since this seems to be one of those rare in-game promotions that actually nails it.

Watch A Group Of Guardians In Destiny Dance To The Backstreet Boys

Watch A Group Of Guardians In Destiny Dance To The Backstreet Boys

I'm not much a fan of Destiny and the gameplay oftentimes puts me to sleep, but every once in a while there is something that pops up that's actually both funny and entertaining, no matter what you think about the game itself.

and the gameplay oftentimes puts me to sleep, but every once in a while there is something that pops up that's actually both funny and entertaining, no matter what you think about the game itself. In this case, there's a dance routine set to the Backstreet Boys and it's great.

The Daily Dotspotted the video over on the Husky RaidYouTube channel, and you can check it out for yourself below.

The video featuring the Backstreet Boys' “Everybody” was originally posted back in the fall of 2015 and has managed to garner more than 2 million views globally.

Even if you're not into Destiny it's hard to deny the entertainment values of the game when stuff like this pops up. The Husky Raid must have put a ton of time into turning this into a reality. There's a lot of logistics involved with creating a video like this, especially trying to keep the camera angles relevant and getting the special effects to go off on cue.

It's neat how they used special grenades and the Guardians' powers to put on a light show for audiences and managed to utilize the environment as a makeshift stage. Destiny machinima is usually of a fairly low quality but I really have to tip my hat off to the Husky Raid gang for being able to get inventive with the camera shots and special effects.

I think the ending sequence is definitely the most impressive part of it all, because the party had to venture around the Destiny world to capture footage of various maps. Some of the shots almost actually look like some kind of music video. If Bungieactually allowed users to enter spectator mode at any time then we could potentially see some even better machinima coming out of the Destiny community.

The Husky Raid group have been pumping out videos for a while, and the majority of them are miscellaneous clips and playthroughs, but it's the dance routines and their “Destiny Cops” series that get most of the views on the channel. However, the “Destiny Cops” series ran into a bit of a problem back in September 2015 when Bungie removed a glitch that allowed players to make their gun disappear. The Husky Raid crew used the glitch as a way to make “Destiny Cops” look like it was being filmed cinematically, but with the glitch gone they had to get creative, no different than what they did with the music video above.

I imagine it takes a lot of editing and timing to get the music videos done right, so it's not surprising that they don't come out often. Although, when they do appear it's usually an event that goes viral around the web... just like with the Destiny clip at the top of the article featuring a bunch of galactic heroes dancing to a song from a boy band that was popular back in the late 1990s.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 Xbox 360 And PS3 Won't Get Season Pass

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 Xbox 360 And PS3 Won't Get Season Pass

It seems like there's more news about what Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 won't have for the Xbox 360 and PS3 than what it will have.

won't have for the Xbox 360 and PS3 than what it will have. The latest news about the seventh generation version of the game is that it won't have a season pass available to those playing on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Game Informerand Video Gamerpicked up the news from a listing over on the Xbox Store, where it notes that the season pass for Black Ops 3 and the zombie bonus map will not be available on the Xbox 360.

Video Gamer attempted to reach out to Activision to confirm that the season pass would not be offered for either the Xbox 360 or PS3, but at the time of them publishing the article they didn't receive a response.

This news wouldn't be too surprising given that the campaign mode is also missing from the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Black Ops 3 . The campaign centers around a four-player cooperative experience and Treyarch was unable to whittle it down enough to make it doable on the old-gen consoles, so it was axed.

It would make complete sense if the season pass was also cut because it may have something to do with the campaign content. This is one of the first times where the campaign has received almost about as much focus as the competitive multiplayer mode. Instead of it just being a tacked on pew-pew-pew fest, this year's outing will see players customizing their character, acquiring skills and tactically adapting to a slightly more sandbox-style level layout.

If Treyarch is planning on releasing campaign content for Black Ops 3 through the season pass, then that would automatically void gamers on the Xbox 360 and PS3. In turn, it would make sense why a season pass wouldn't even be offered to seventh-gen gamers. Imagine paying $50 but half of the content is unavailable?

Of course, it's also safe to assume that the season pass contains plenty of competitive multiplayer and cooperative zombie content as well. The Xbox Store lists that the season pass will contain four DLC map packs in 2016, and that some of the maps included in the map will include re-imagined content from Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty: Black Ops , with the continuation of the original zombie story in "Der Riese". They don't specifically detail how many maps will be in each pack or if how they'll be arranged when released, but obviously some of the content is too big for the old-gen systems, such as “The Giant” map within the zombies campaign.

The general reaction from most gamers for news like this has been “duh”. The Xbox 360 will be a decade old this year and the PS3 will be a decade old next year. It really is time to retire these systems and for companies like Activision to leave them behind for good. When they first launched they were ahead of the tech curve but now we have PCs that are literally powerful enough to emulate PS3 and Xbox 360 games via emulators. That lets you know just how far advanced tech is in today's society and how old both Sony and Microsoft's consoles are.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is due for release on the Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 6th, along with the season pass, which will presumably only be available for PS4, Xbox One and PC users.

HTC asks for patience following continued Vive VR shipping issues

HTC asks for patience following continued Vive VR shipping issues

Vive VR officially released earlier this week, but soon met with a range of shipping issues, including some pre-orders simply being automatically canceled .

. Responding to the various problems and concerns consumers have experienced, HTC has asked for patience and tried to provide solutions to many of the possible issues.

on what the VR manufacture is calling a “bulletin board for known issues,” HTC reminded consumers to double check the estimated delivery month noted on the original order confirmation email. Despite a mix up earlier this week, all shipments will be sent out according to the order in which they were purchased. Likewise, in the case of any consumers who originally paid for express shipping, but received economy shipping, HTC will be sending refunds for the difference in the 5-10 days following the shipment.

“We understand that multiple issues have arisen in the past two days and we are working hard to resolve them as quickly and efficiently as possible,” the post reads. “We appreciate your patience as we identify these issues and work to solve them.”

Currently, the bulletin board includes solutions and answers for just under a dozen questions that have risen in the past week. Have an issue we didn’t mention here? Be sure to check the full list on the Vive website.

It was recently announcedVive VR will have demo headsets available in select GameStop and Microsoft stores.

Even though it launched late last month, the Oculus Rift has experienced shipment problems of its own, prompting plenty of consumer anger and a heated backlash from Oculus founder Palmer Luckey.

Are you waiting on a Vive VR headset? What about an Oculus Rift? Or do you already have your VR headset? Let us know in the comments.

Some of those games I've never even heard of...which is kind of cool because now it gives gamers ample opportunity to check out some of the titles on the PS3 that they may have missed out on.

There's also a diverse smorgasbord of games that range from miscellaneous puzzle titles to hardcore shooters; Sony obviously isn't discriminating when it comes to the diversity of the game selection they have available for the PS3. JRPG classics like White Knight Chronicles are up there alongside blockbuster shooters like KillZone 2 . There are also games like the original Gravity Rush and the 2D fighting game, Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late , which is probably one of the most niche titles on that list.

Sony's own first-party exclusives like Uncharted 3 , are available, although it seems to stand as a stark contrast to the fact that you can already get Uncharted 3 on the PS4 with the Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection .

This brings us to a very important facet of the PlayStation Now service: you're paying to rent a lot of games you might already own on previous PlayStation devices.

Essentially, the service opens up PS4 owners to playing classic games from the bygone eras on their new device, but it comes at a hefty cost of $99.99 for an annual subscription or $19.99 for a single month or $44.99 for three months. It should go without saying that PlayStation Now is very expensive on top of what you have to pay for PlayStation Plus, and the value of playing older PlayStation titles on the PS4 for prices that are much higher than what many of those games are worth has left a rather sour taste in the mouths of many gamers.

Nevertheless, if you're still keen on playing older titles from the illustrious libraries of Sony's home consoles, you can do so right now with the 40 PS3 games added to the PlayStation Now library.

See What Destiny Has Planned For Its Valentine's Day Event

See What Destiny Has Planned For Its Valentine's Day Event

Bungie revealed details on the upcoming Valentine's Day event February 9 for their popular sci-fi shooter.

Bungie revealed details on the upcoming Valentine's Day event February 9 for their popular sci-fi shooter. The event will be called “Crimson Days” and it introduces a brand new Crucible mode in Destiny for the 2 vs 2 matches. The description of the mode leaves a lot to the imagination.

Gamespotpicked up the news from over on the, where they pointed to a quote in the update about the new Crucible mode. It will accompany a red overhaul of the Tower social space. But the mode itself sounds quite intriguing compared to what Destiny gamers might be used to, with the post reading....
We’re delivering a brand new 2v2 Crucible mode we’re calling Crimson Doubles. It features a special twist, born of new gameplay and mechanics that only battle-tested star-crossed lovers will appreciate. You’ll need a dancing partner – preferably one that compliments your fighting style. The two of you will have a chance to earn some “sweet” loot together in the Crucible. To receive your gifts, you’ll have to put your differences aside and fight well as a couple.
All of that sounds crazy. The wording makes it sound as if there's going to be a Dance, Dance Revolution style showdown between players in the Crucible maps? They don't clarify what they mean by “battle-tested star-crossed lovers” or by needing a “dancing partner”. Are they simply talking about a tag-team match between two players and they switch up sides? Or is this some kind of gimmick where players will have to work with opposing teammates in some way?

There's obviously the elephant-in-the-room possibility that I've skipped over, but it may as well be exactly what the Crimson Doubles actually is: a dancing competition.

Now before you blow off the idea and state how ridiculous that sounds, keep in mind that this is Destiny and the game is known just as much for raiding, looting and speeding through the crevices of mountainous regions across foreign planets, as it is known for producing some of the most hilarious music videos and dance routines on the internet.

It wouldn't seem so far-fetched that Bungie might capitalize on the whole dancing gimmick in the game – especially considering that all the dancing emotes are already in the game – and setup a Crucible match centered around synchronized dancing. One can dream.

In addition to announcing the Crimson Doubles match, the developer also dropped some details on a new Iron Banner event due to go live on January 26 and it will run through February 2. New armor and weapons will be added as part of the rewards, including PlayStation exclusive gear. And yes, PS4owners are still getting exclusive content over their Xboxcounterparts. Sony and Activision have been making good on the partnership with Destiny since release and it's continued on to this very day.

In the upcoming weekly updates, Bungie has plans on further detailing the Crimson Doubles event and how it will work. You can keep an eye out on the official Bungie websitefor news on when the Valentine's Day event details will go live.

Destiny's Warpriest Challenge Is Now Live

Destiny's Warpriest Challenge Is Now Live

Bungie is keeping Destiny fresh and alive with some new challenges.

fresh and alive with some new challenges. The first of those challenges is a Warpriest event that will see players pushed to their limits in how they mix up their strategies to defeat him.

GameRanttook note that the Challenge Mode for the Warpriest boss during the King's Fall raid is currently live. What is the challenge? You and your team must defeat the Warpriest by having a different Aura holder throughout the boss fight.

This particular Destiny challenge went live in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, allowing hardcore players to start participating in the King's Fall raiding challenge for the first boss. The Warpriest was pretty difficult for a lot of players to battle against and if you still have trouble facing off against him or don't quite understand how the Aura works in the Challenge Mode, YouTuber Hush. The five minute video breaks down the very complicated step-by-step process in facing off against the Warpriest and how the Aura system works.

The Challenge itself – passing the Aura system around to each member of the team in order to defeat the Warpriest – may not be too difficult for many experienced players. It's just a matter of remembering the pattern of when to step onto the circles of light, and how to organize the trade-off on when a player should get the Aura and where they should die in order to keep the fight going.

If you aren't that much of a hardcore Destiny player then this probably isn't going to be all that exciting to you. In fact, it probably all just looks overly complicated and terribly exasperating. However, there is a dedicated fanbase around Destiny that crave new content on a regular basis, and Bungie has not shied away from engaging with the community in weekly events and regular updates.

GameRant suspects that this current Challenge Mode for the Warpriest in the King's Fall raid will be followed by another Challenge Mode for the Golgoroth boss, followed by yet another Challenge Mode for the big bad boss... Oryx.

The current event for the Warpriest sees item drops with a 320 artifact rating on Hard Mode. This means that players are likely to get some good gear out of the Challenge and rank up their equipment for whatever Bungie has in store for the next event.

Hardcore Destiny players will likely want to heavily farm the Challenge Mode especially when even on the normal setting items with a 310 Light rating will drop.

If you already own Destiny and the Taken King expansion you can start participating in the Challenge Mode for the Warpriest right now. If you don't have the Taken King then it's no big deal, you can just wait for the next big expansion to see if it fits your tastes a bit better.

Oculus Rift's launch stagnates while founder Palmer Luckey stresses out

Countless thousands of early VR adopters are waiting for their pre-ordered Rifts and have been taking to poke at Oculus founder Palmer Luckey about it.

Countless thousands of early VR adopters are waiting for their pre-ordered Rifts and have been taking to poke at Oculus founder Palmer Luckey about it. Taking to twitter, Palmer had tried to ease concerns with his tweet stating that the devices would be shipped out and arriving last week.

Shipping update: Kickstarter Rifts will start arriving Mon, pre-orders start shipping mid-week (likely Wed) and will arrive this week too.

— Palmer Luckey (@PalmerLuckey) March 28, 2016

Obviously, when they did not arrive, fans start poking Palmer once more, to which he responded with:

— Palmer Luckey (@PalmerLuckey) March 31, 2016

Taking to the subreddit, Luckey also expressed his thoughts on the matter in a bit more detail. The thread suggested that Luckey couldn’t respond due to being suppressed by his bosses. Luckey made this statement in retort:

Don’t shunt blame to other people, this is my call. I am not going to wax poetic about this, since I have done so in the past, but bottom-line: I won’t give in-depth updates on any situation without knowing it is solid, true, and finalized. Until I can do so, the best I can do is remind people that I will get them information as quickly as I can.

On the rare occasions when things still change, even when they change for reasons out of my control, I get crucified anyway. Sometimes that means updates have to wait until things get locked down, and sometimes that means waiting a little longer to give everyone good info.

That said, Luckey and the rest of the Oculus team are obviously very stressed about the situation as CEO of Oculus Brendan Iribe mentions that due to the original release window being skewered, all shipping costs for the pre-ordered Rifts will be free for everyone.

New PlayStation 4 Update Will Include Remote Play And More

New PlayStation 4 Update Will Include Remote Play And More

Sony is currently beta testing with select PS4 owners the soon-to-be-released 3.50 firmware update for the PlayStation 4.

Sony is currently beta testing with select PS4 owners the soon-to-be-released 3.50 firmware update for the PlayStation 4. The update contains some significant new features and the implementation of some of the most highly requested system options to date.

Shacknewsquickly breezed through the news about the beta of version 3.50, as the update, codenamed Musashi, is only available to a few select PlayStation 4 owners and they've been able to get in some play time with the new and improved system overhaul.

So what exactly is it that makes this PS4 update so much more special than the rest? Well, on the PlayStation blogthey explain that 3.50 will feature some of the most highly anticipated system-level options available for the PS4, this includes the much talked about Remote Play that will allow PC and Mac users to remote access their PlayStation 4from the comfort of their computer chairs.

This feature arrives quite late after Microsoft made Windows 10 PCs capable of remote accessing Xbox One units by utilizing the cross-platform compatibility of Xbox Live accounts between an Xbox One and Windows 10. The Xbox app on Windows allows gamers to plug in an Xbox One controller to their PC and practically play their Xbox One library from their high-end desktop. The feature was so popular that PlayStationgamers started asking Sony when or if they would do something similar. Sony's worldwide studios president Shuhei Yoshida made it known on Twitter that they would add that kind of support to the PS4 eventually. Well, now it's coming with update 3.50.

They also plan on including Dailymotion live-streaming. This will enable users to easily live-stream content from their PS4 directly to Dailymotion, giving gamers an alternative to YouTube to get their content up and out of the door without worrying about content ID matches and copyright strikes.

Another feature in the update is the one feature that PlayStation 4gamers have been begging Sony for since the PS4 came out back in 2013: the ability to appear offline.

PS4 gamers continually asked to have the option to play online but set their online status to offline. This way they could play various games online but not have to deal with friends or talk to anyone or get friend invites. It's a built-in feature for something like Steam and it seemed like it's been long overdue for Sony to have implemented it in for people gaming on the PlayStation 4, especially considering that Steam is free and you have to pay a monthly (or annual) subscription for PlayStation Plus.

On the more sociable side of the equation, they did add the option to allow users to now have friend notifications activate when they come online. This means that when you want to play with a certain friend you can be notified once they log on. This also ties into the new play together feature where party members can easily schedule and join in on a game that one person in the group is playing. So if you get a notice that someone has come online and they start playing Killzone or Destiny , it's possible for the rest of the party to join in on the action once they get the notice.

The PS4's 3.50 update is not available right now but it will be coming soon.

Destiny Refer-A-Friend Program Will Give You Special Rewards

Destiny Refer-A-Friend Program Will Give You Special Rewards

If you manage to get a friend to play Destiny during the holiday season, it sounds like the team at Bungie is putting together something special as a way of saying thank you courtesy of a new Refer-a-Friend program.

Announced this weekend through the Bungie blog, folks who help their friends transition into fully-fledged Guardians in Destiny will soon be able to reap some sort of rewards.

I'm not being intentionally vague here. Bungie hasn't ironed out all of the details so, at the moment, all we know is that it might be a good idea to pick up a copy of Destiny and gift it to a pal in the coming month. After [the November] update is deployed, some of the more tech savvy among you will be able to dig up some details for a new initiative we have planned to arrive just in time for the holiday season. We're planning something new to recognize and reward the Sherpas among you. We are calling it Refer-a-Friend. Maybe you have a friend who will be getting Destiny as a gift this season. Perhaps their gift-giver will even be picking it up for them at a holiday sale coming to a store near you. If you intend to show them the way to the mountaintop, we'll have new rewards aimed at recognizing your service to the Kinderguardian.
The announcement goes on to state that the finishing touches are being put on the program, so expect to see the final details “very soon.”

Speaking of very soon, that's when folks can expect Bungie to roll out the November update. Along with a bunch of minor tweaks and adjustments, a few highly requested changes will be released hand-in-hand with a couple of new features.

When the November update launches for Destiny next week, players will finally be able to buy gun parts from the Gunsmith. Those parts were available in abundance back in the day but, after The Taken King , they became a more useful part of the economy and a bit more scarce. Now you'll be able to spend Glimmer on these resources, in case you're running low.

Also making the cut in November is a fix for the Nightstalker sub-class for Hunters. The “Quiver” ability is being fixed, once again allowing Katnis wannabes to fire three Void anchors like the good lord intended.

Finally, another new addition to the marketplace will see Guardiansbeing able to purchase additional swords. Until now, you were pretty much limited to a single sword if you are only running one character. After the November update, completing the Blademaster quest from Shaxx will allow you to buy any of the Legendary swords from the same vendor. That should certainly come in handy for folks who like to play with sharp objects.

Xbox One Gamers Can Get Battlefield Hardline For Free Soon

Xbox One Gamers Can Get Battlefield Hardline For Free Soon

If you're an Xbox One owner and you're currently getting in on the goods that Electronic Arts is offering through their EA Access program, well you'll enjoy knowing that Battlefield: Hardline will be free soon for those registered with EA Access.

Game Informerpicked up the news from a post over on Reddit, where someone posted an image of the store listing of EA Access that showed Battlefield: Hardline as a game that's “coming soon” to EA's Vault. The Vault is basically a place where subscribed members can get their hands on various EA titles for free.

Some of the games in The Vault includes Battlefield 4 , Madden NFL 15, NHL 15
and Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare to name but a few.

Battlefield: Hardline joining The Vault means that anyone who subscribes to EA's service will be able to play the game for as long as they want, whenever they want... so long as they stay subscribed to the service.

The EA Access service is basically EA's own version of Xbox Live or PlayStation Plus. It offers gamers discounts on games published by EA as well as early access trials to upcoming titles and the aforementioned free titles available through The Vault.

Interestingly enough, Sony opted not to take up Electronic Arts on their offer to provide the PlayStation 4 with EA Access. Sony felt it wasn't something that would add substantial value to the PlayStation 4. Basically it would be EA adding another subscription layer on top of PlayStation Plus, only the service would be limited to EA titles. Nevertheless, Microsoft jumped on the deal and now Xbox One owners can take advantage of the discounts, deals, trial offers and early access to various EA games.

As for Battlefield: Hardline , the game had a rough promotional road leading up to release. A lot of gamers complained that it was just a re-skin of Battlefield 4 with a $60 price tag. Others complained that it wasn't really Battlefield anymore; and some felt that it was just cashing in on the popularity of GTA V and Payday 2 at the time.

EA and Visceral Games managed to win over some favorable support by the time the game launched after they unveiled the modes where players chased down each other in speeding vehicles as they attempted to complete specific objectives. The mode was universally praised amongst a lot of the negativity surrounding Battlefield: Hardline .

Funnily enough, Battlefield 4 throughout this time has been receiving more positive feedback as gamers feel that after all the fixes and expansion packs the game is a very laudable entry in the series. Maybe over time the same will be said about Battlefield: Hardline ?

Well, if you don't already have EA Access you can get your hands on the newest Battlefield title from Visceral Games if you do decide to sign-up for the service. Alternatively you can always just get a used copy from GameStop or eBay. Anyway, you can learn more about EA Access by visiting the official website.

Oculus Rift developers can sell their games in whatever store they want

The Oculus Rift launched today.

The Oculus Rift launched today. In a, the Oculus team stated that developers will be able to sell their games in whatever store they like.

“The Oculus platform and store are designed to provide the best VR experience and content, but we also recognize that people will want to use apps that aren’t available on the Oculus platform or in the store,” the team stated.

“As a developer, you don’t have to be in the Oculus Store – you can sell outside, and when you do that you can use your own IAP if you prefer, and we don’t take a cut. You can also request keys (royalty free) to sell your Oculus PC app on other stores, while making it available to the community through the Oculus platform.”

This means that players and developers will be able to buy and sell apps outside of the Oculus store, through platforms such as Steam. However, there are a few requirements that apps must meet, such as not locking the player from the Home menu.

New Battlefield 4 Easter Egg Offers Puzzle With Cool Reward

New Battlefield 4 Easter Egg Offers Puzzle With Cool Reward

There are Easter eggs in games, and then there is whatever you want to call this insane series of events that was recently uncovered within Battlefield 4 that rewards players with a special camo.

that rewards players with a special camo. Get ready to crack some codes.

Known as the Battlefield 4 illuminati Easter egg, this multi-stage web of an event within the game’s multiplayer mode was recently untangled by players ShadowSix, HattiWatti, jackfragsand Hadoukenz. They do a fine job of leading you through the process in a recent video highlighting the details of the Easter egg, which you can check out for yourself below. As mentioned above, the process to uncover the illuminati Easter egg is complex, which explains why the video clocks in at over 10 minutes in length. But if you manage to make it through the process for yourself within the game, you’ll be rewarded with a special suit of camo that is usually reserved for DICE employees. Not a bad way to show off your dedication to the game, right?

So how insane was that? When games like Uncharted , Just Cause or Dying Light drop an Easter egg into a game, it’s typically an item or small event that references some other well-known thing from pop culture. You might find a sword from World of Warcraft or the hatch from Lost hidden on the map, but that’s usually where other developers draw the line.

That’s not the case for Battlefield 4 , as their Easter egg requires time, patience, a ridiculous amount of searching and even figuring out some logic puzzles that require pen and paper on the side. It’s easy to see how this particular quest has been dubbed “illuminati,” because it feels like you’re basically cracking the Da Vinci Code within what was, until this point, just a first-person shooter.

It’s no surprise, then, that it took over a year and multiple players working together to finally figure the whole mess out. The hidden items are peppered across the Dragon Valley map, as well as Zavod: Graveyard Shift. In the midst of finding all of those interactive items (that are super tiny, no less), you’ll need to use various pieces of information to solve some additional puzzles in order to get your code to unlock the special camo.

The extra bit of brilliance is that DICE didn’t make this easy even if you’re using the above guide. It turns out the final code that you come up with is individualized, so you can’t just use the same solution as another player. Instead, you’ll need to boot up Battlefield 4 yourself and actually go through all of these steps in order to get your own code. They’ve done the heavy lifting, but you’ll still have to manage all of the leg work.

Destiny Fans Can Get A Special Holiday Treat From Bungie

Destiny Fans Can Get A Special Holiday Treat From Bungie

Bungie is celebrating the holidays with some special giveaways leading up to and through the new year.

Bungie is celebrating the holidays with some special giveaways leading up to and through the new year. The new content will be handed out to players as they participate in events between January 7th and January 10th to receive an emblem, in addition to some strange coins and 15 emotes of light.

IGNnotes that over on the Bungie website, they revealed that those who have been participating in Destiny events will receive 15 strange coins that can be used with the trader Xur. The coins are hard to come by and require completing specific events throughout Bungie's first-person shooter in order to obtain them. In addition to the 15 strange coins, Bungie is also handing out 15 emotes of light. Those will be handed out on January 7th, 2016.

Additionally, if you log in between January 7th and January 10th, you'll be able to receive an exclusive emblem. They don't say what the emblem is as it hasn't been revealed...yet.

The rest of the post is about one of the few truly exciting additions to Destiny : The Sparrow Racing League.

They picked their best accolade trailer from the community, a Sparrow Racing League music video from YouTuber Autumnatic. You can check out the music video below.

The video features Rihanna's “Shut up and Drive” and is a collage of in-game clips and the original cinematic Bungie let loose for the game when they first announced that the Sparrow Racing League was coming to Destiny .

The only drawback to the machinima that people make for Destiny is that you can't use fancy-cams like in many other PC games or in Halo , which allows for spectators. They need a really snazzy spectator mode so people can get some TV-style footage to put together machinima that looks like it comes right out of Star Wars: Episode I .

Anyway, I would gather that the Sparrow Racing League has been somewhat successful for Bungie. It was a real risk but it comes at a time when futuristic, combat racers are in serious short supply. In fact, outside of Destiny's limited time racing event, the only other game that came out this fall that was a futuristic racer for home consoles was Shin'en Multimedia's Fast Racing Neo for the Wii U.

So Bungie is definitely filling a void that other companies have been neglecting for quite some time. I imagine the Sparrow Racing Leaguewill continue to be a bright spot in Destiny's repertoire of content.

For now, though, you can look forward to gratis goodiess when Bungie starts handing out free strange coins and light during the first week of January. IGN suggests that that the best way to ensure that you become eligible is to complete at least one event during January 7th and January 10th to ensure that your player profile activity is logged.

, a cheap alternative to an expensive VR headset that utilizes your own cellphone and a bunch of cardboard pieces that Google can mail you. Rumor has it, though, that Google is looking to get into the VR field in a larger way: a standalone VR headset.

Citing unnamed sources that have been related to the project, The Wall Street Journal reports the headset won’t need a smartphone, computer, or game console to operate. The sources state that the headset will have a screen, high-powered processors, and outward-facing cameras.

A more advanced version of Google Cardboard is also planned to be in the works as well. Google’s virtual reality chief Clay Bavor gave a statement about Google’s plans on VR.

“Since the beginning we’ve been about making VR available for everyone. We’ll have some more to share later in the year.”

Google’s annual developer conference is on May 18th-20th, where two of the sources state is the most likely time that Google will unveil its updated Cardboard. However, the sources from the Journal also state that their stand-alone VR is in early development, so it most likely that it won’t be revealed until at least later this year.

Destiny Is Adding Sparrow Racing

Destiny Is Adding Sparrow Racing

Sony hasn't been messing around with the PlayStation Experience weekend.

Sony hasn't been messing around with the PlayStation Experience weekend. This year's event has played host to all sorts of huge announcements and great trailer and content reveals for some of the biggest games on the market, including Bungie's Destiny . What did the shooter game receive? An announcement for a Sparrow racing league.

The trailer is short and snappy, clocking in at just a minute and a half. However, it wastes little time in getting to the point and giving gamers a look at the upcoming content update for the first-person shooter. It was posted on the official Destiny YouTube channeland you can check it out below.

Starting December 8th, and lasting for three weeks, the Sparrow racing league will be a staple event in the online multiplayer Destiny experience.

I'll be the first to say I'm no fan of Destiny , but I'll also be the first to say that the Sparrow racing league looks really fun. I think part of it is that we don't get a lot of futuristic multiplayer racing games anymore unless they're made by indie studios with games like Formula Fusion, Radial-G, Redout and Quantum Rush . Even on the Wii U, the only noteworthy futuristic racer is Shin'en Multimedia's F-Zero substitute Fast Racing Neo , which is an indie production.

In this case, Bungie is tapping an untapped genre in the main AAA space so it's likely that many of their die-hard fans will eat up the Sparrow racing league. It's not a surprising thing when you think about Bungie's past history with including racing modes and features in the Halo series, giving fans an opportunity to do more in the multiplayer modes than just shoot each other.

The Sparrow mode in Destiny looks really fleshed out, though. Right now it features two different maps for players to race across, as well as the ability to pull off tricks in the air and exercise some turbo boosts while blasting through the checkpoints.

One of the things that really stuck out to me is how there are enemy AI scattered about segments of the maps that shoot at players. It reminds me of the pod-racing in Star Wars: Episode 1 where the Sand People were shooting at the racers passing by the canyon segment.

Some very keen-eyed fans spotted a few different icons during the race that made them think that power-ups will play a role in the race at some point.

One thing that is guaranteed is that players will be able to earn rewards by participating in and winning the races. They don't exactly say what kind of rewards will be available but it's hinted at that upgrades for the Sparrow will be available. I wonder if it will also be stuff that carries over into the campaign mode?

You can look for the Sparrow racing league event to get underway on December 8th in just a few days.

Final Fantasy XV Release Date May Have Already Been Leaked Hours Before Event

Final Fantasy XV Release Date May Have Already Been Leaked Hours Before Event

Tonight finally marks the night of the special Final Fantasy XV event where fans have been waiting for months to hear of the official release date for the game.

for the game. We already know it’s supposed to be sometime this year, but we haven’t gotten any confirmation of a date. With the releaseevent just hours away, there are already reports of a September 30 release date.

Kotakuis reporting on story, exclaiming that earlier today, Gamespot released a video where the upcoming game’s release datewas leaked. Though Gamespot was quick to remove it, it just wasn’t quick enough to keep Kotaku from grabbing a screenshot of the release date.

”image Image courtesy of Kotaku

You might imagine that the staff over at Gamespot are flipping out because this is probably one of the biggest (and accidental, might I add) dick moves of all time. Hours before a special event dedicated to announcing the release dateof the new game and the press makes an oopsie and releases it ahead of schedule. So many months spent building up fans for the announcement, creating an entire hoopla just to reveal it, and then this happens. Welcome to game development, folks.

Earlier in the month, Gematsuactually reported this same date as a rumor. They grabbed the information from three of their unnamed sources who are knowledgeable on the matter, so Gamespot didn’t really ruin too much. Everyone else could say they sort’ve saw this coming.

If you would still like to tune into the special event, which we still highly encourage you to do, and see if the leaked release date is indeed correct, you can stream the event hereat 7PM PST.

We Won't Be Seeing Destiny 2 This Year

We Won't Be Seeing Destiny 2 This Year

The future of Destiny remains hazy, but it sounds like we can rest assured about one major route along the road ahead: It doesn't sound like Destiny 2 is coming this year.

According to a report from Kotaku, folks who are connected to the development of Destiny have made it known that a sequel to Bungie's massive shooter is not coming anytime soon. If you've been following the rumors and speculation attached to the Destiny universe these past several months, you'll know that a Destiny 2 launch in September was a part of the original plan.

You'll notice that we're being careful here not to say that Destiny 2 has been delayed. That's an intentional choice, as we feel it's important to be clear about what has and has not been announced pertaining to that particular game. It wouldn't be fair to Bungie to say that they've decided to push back their next title, especially since said next title has not actually been announced and the delay information is coming from unnamed sources. Is it entirely possible that Bungie had hoped to launch Destiny 2 in September and, according to folks working on the game, that is no longer the case? Absolutely. But again, it's hard to ping Bungie for “delaying” a game they haven't even announced.

So why are we being so careful about our wording here? Because the road ahead for Destiny is currently nebulous at best, and we don't want to create more confusion by not being accurate. This isn't giving Bungie a free pass, either. We absolutely agree that they need to be a bit more open with their plans so that rumors like this don't get started, and the fact that said information isn't available because Bungie isn't sure what's coming next is more than a little worrisome.

For starters, all of this hubbub about the grand plan for Destiny comes from documents that were created in 2012, long before the first game even launched. Bungie has been very open about the fact that Destiny has undergone a huge evolution in its development, and I think it's safe to say that they spent the first year post-launch figuring out what exactly the game was.

As pointed out in the Kotaku report, the big issue is that, during the first year, we knew exactly what was coming down the road for Destiny . We knew that three big expansions were en route and, between them, regular smaller events would help keep things fresh.

The last we've heard for year two in Destiny is that DLC content was being worked out of the equation, with more meaty side events like the Festival of the Lostand Sparrow Racing Leaguefilling the gaps. It's great that they're still adding content, but that's not what series fans have grown to expect.

Here's hoping that all of this confusion and claims of Destiny 2 being “delayed” will open Bungieand Activision'seyes to the fact that they've got a massive audience that just wants to know what they can expect out of the series in the coming months.

Overwatch Victory Pose To Be Removed Due To Backlash

Overwatch Victory Pose To Be Removed Due To Backlash

Blizzard received some strong criticism from a concerned father about his young daughter playing Overwatch and one of the poses that's in the game that the characters perform when they achieve victory.

and one of the poses that's in the game that the characters perform when they achieve victory. They turn around and look over their shoulder; well this pose was deemed too sexy for the character Tracer and that it should be removed.

Eurogameris reporting that a post over on the Battle.net forums– where beta testers are currently offering feedback – strongly criticizes Blizzard over allowing Tracer to utilize the “Over the Shoulder” pose that many of the characters use in the game when victory is achieved. It's an optional pose that players can equip to their character if they choose to do so, after they unlock it.

The poster on the Battle.net forums felt as if the pose turned Tracer into a sex symbol, and according to the lore, Tracer shouldn't have any poses that could be construed as sexy or sexual. The poster complains that Blizzard added the pose to attract gamers and help boost the player's investment and appeal in the game. They argue that Blizzard should be focusing more on creating strong women as opposed to trying to cater to a certain group of gamers.

Near the end of the post, the user exclaims that his young daughter watches the cinematic trailer all the time and that she's really invested into Overwatch and that he hopes that she can grow up with the character.

The response illicited some very strong feedback from the Battle.net community and the other beta testers dabbling in Overwatch . Most thought the poster was trolling. However, Blizzard did not think that they were trolling and game director Jeff Kaplan agreed that the pose didn't suit Tracer and that they would remove the optional victory pose from Tracer's profile and replace it with something else. You can see the pose they want to replace below.

Over The Shoulder Tracer Pose

Kaplan explained in a post – and then further expounded in a follow-up post– that they would change the post and that it wasn't them pandering or caving in to a specific agenda. Kaplan stated...
We made the decision to go with a different pose in part because we shared some of the same concerns, but also because we wanted to create something better.

We wouldn’t do anything to sacrifice our creative vision for Overwatch, and we’re not going to remove something solely because someone may take issue with it. Our goal isn’t to water down or homogenize the world, or the diverse cast of heroes we’ve built within it. We have poured so much of our heart and souls into this game that it would be a travesty for us to do so.
Some of those in the thread were fine with Kaplan's follow-up post and mentioned that they were okay with removing the optional victory pose for Tracer if it meant getting something better in Overwatch .

Others felt as if Kaplan should have never responded in the thread because all it did was fan those flames. Some female gamers posted in the thread agreeing that despite the pose being available to other characters, it did sexualize Tracer. Other female gamers participating in the Overwatch beta disagreed with Blizzard's decision, stating that censoring a woman's ability to choose how she expresses her sexuality is a step backward for our culture.

The topic has been going on for dozens of pages, as gamers from all over contribute to the thread that managed to get the attention of the entire internet.

It will be interesting to see what Blizzard replaces the “Over The Shoulder” pose for Tracer with, and if it will appeal to those who have a specific idea of how Tracer should be portrayed in Overwatch ?

Blizzard is currently undergoing beta tests for the game as they prep for the launch on May 24. Overwatch will be available for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Gears Of War 4: New Tutorial Shows Beta Gameplay

Gears Of War 4: New Tutorial Shows Beta Gameplay

The Gears of War 4 beta is nearly ready to get underway and The Coalition wanted to give gamers a quick run-through of some of the necessary gameplay elements to make use of during the beta in order to survive with teammates and come out victorious.

Over on the Gears of War YouTube channelthe developers posted up eight tips on how to get a hold of the gameplay and some of the new features in the newest Gears of War game. You can check out the video below.

They start with some of the basics, like using cover with the 'A' button to get from one location to the next hastily and mostly out of the way of harm. You can use the cover to blind fire or pick off opponents by peeking out and carefully taking your shots.

They also mention that the “down but not out” state returns in Gears of War 4 , allowing you to crawl to safety and self-revive. If you don't get to safety in time then you're susceptible to getting picked off by an opponent, either by being shot or curb-stomped into the ground.

The video also highlights the active reloading feature, which allows you to quickly reload your weapon and gain additional damage if you land the reload counter on the white part of the active reload bar. This feature makes a return from all the other previous Gears of War games.

The loadouts are also briefly discussed, offering gamers different types of weapon proficiency at different distances, with the Lancer working well for long range and the shotgun being great for up close encounters. They also briefly discuss the importance of power weapons scattered throughout the maps, where players can use these powerful weapons to turn the tide of battle.

Now one of the actual new features is the post-cover combat system. This new implementation hosts things like the vault kick or the yank. The former sees players springing over a cover point and kicking an opponent right square in the jaw. The latter sees players capable of pulling a foe from the opposite side of cover out into the open. In the case of the yank, it's possible to follow-up the yank with a quick melee kill. Both the yank and the vault kick can be countered with a well-timed press of the 'B' button from those on the receiving end of the moves.

The last two features include spotting, which allows you to pick out your enemies and mark them for your teammates., and using the Tac-Com, which can be done with the left bumper, giving you a view of your teammates on the map.

These tips will certainly help newcomers to the Gears of War franchise, but other than the vault kick and yank, most of this stuff is basic Gears of War 101 info.

The Coalition and Microsoft will commence the beta for Gears of War 4 on April 18 and it will run through April 24. At the very end of the month they will also open up the beta for those with Xbox Live Gold to participate up through May 1.

Quantum Break For PC Has Some Serious Issues

Quantum Break For PC Has Some Serious Issues

Remedy Entertainment is usually known for making quality titles, even on PC.

Remedy Entertainment is usually known for making quality titles, even on PC. Imagine the shock and surprise when it turns out that Quantum Break is a broken mess on PC and that it's almost in worst shape than the infamous Batman: Arkham Knight on PC.

Gamespotpicked up the news from a technical breakdown that Digital Foundryconducted, where they compared Quantum Break on PC with AMD and Nvidia cards, as well as rolled out a comparison to the Xbox One version. It turns out the Xbox One version is better optimized and runs more fluently than the PC counterpart. But why?

Well, part of it is poorly optimized drivers from Nvidia. The Digital Foundry crew ran into several driver crashes running on the Nvidia hardware. Worst yet is that the company had recently updated the drivers for Quantum Break . That didn't matter, though, because between AMD and Nvidia cards there's nearly a 50% performance gap.

Nvidia's GTX 970 could barely hit 30fps on the Ultra settings, whereas the AMD R9-390 was able to rock out at a partially consistent 50fps. There was, on average, a 20fps frame-rate difference between Quantum Break on Nvidia cards and AMD cards. That's one of the biggest gaps in benchmarking I've ever witnessed between two similarly powered cards. It's bizarre.

Worse yet is the double buffered v-synch – now I always turn off v-synch because it usually butchers the frame-rate with the kind of judder that could make your eyes bleed, especially with poorly optimized games. But in this case, according to Digital Foundry, they weren't able to disable it due to it being a mandatory feature running Windows 10 programs from the UWP.

But that's not even the worst of it; the frame-rate is capped at what they state is 5/6th of your monitor's refresh rate. What this means is that anyone with a 60hz monitor will never be able to play the game above 50fps. This ludicrously asinine display of technical incompetence was put on display with a $1,000 Titan X card that couldn't run Quantum Break on medium settings at 720p above 50fps. Check out the video below to see the comparisons

This is like a through and through sign to stay away from Quantum Break on PC. When you can't even get a $1,000 GPU to run the game more consistently than its Xbox One counterpart at the same resolution and graphics settings, you know darn well that the game is not worth the price of entry on PC.

Even more than that is the fact that if you play the game offline it reads it that you're playing a pirated version of Quantum Break . Yes folks, if you play offline you are shamed with the eye-patch accessory that (inconsistently) appears on the main character throughout the game to remind you that you're playing a pirated version. The only problem is there is no pirated version of Quantum Break available... yet. Essentially it's a shaming tactic for not being always-on. Rue greatly the day for which that becomes the norm.

Anyway, Quantum Break doesn't sound as if it's beyond repair, but clearly you do not want to put $60 down on a game with incessant frame-rate drops and jittery FPS performance. If Remedy can fix the problems then maybe it might be worth it, but for now this is another Batman: Arkham Knight scenario.

Quantum Break Composer Breaks Down The Art Of Applying Music To Emotion

Quantum Break Composer Breaks Down The Art Of Applying Music To Emotion

One of the driving forces of any good video game is a soundtrack that provides a solid backbone for all of that running, jumping and shooting.

One of the driving forces of any good video game is a soundtrack that provides a solid backbone for all of that running, jumping and shooting. And according to Quantum Break composer Petri Alanko, a good soundtrack has the ability to tell the game's story without ever saying a word. It has its own way of introducing you to the characters and settings, as well as providing an emotional center for what's happening while the player has a controller in hand.

Alanko, a Finnish composer, musician and producer, reunited with Remedy Entertainment about five years ago to begin work on Quantum Break . His previous work with the studio included Alan Wake , as well as its DLC chapters.

But while Alan Wake primarily told the story of a man struggling with guilt and fear, Quantum Break offers a more complex landscape of characters, relationships and motivations. There's loss, love, betrayal and, yes, time travel. There are a lot of emotions at play here, which calls for an equally complex soundtrack that can pick them each apart or, at times, pull them all together.

Remedy Franchise Art Director Saku Lehtinen was first to reach out to Alanko about working on Quantum Break but, back in 2011, it was simply called “an unnamed top secret project.” Alanko said he was sold on Quantum Break by a sentence that began with “...er, uh, we've been thinking about a sci-fi story with time—,” which is when Alanko said “Shut up, I'm in!”

When asked where he begins work on crafting a game soundtrack, Alanko said that everything starts with a story.
...Or rather, the stories. I want to make the characters real to myself, so I'm constantly asking a million questions,” he said. “But it's all about making everything believable to me. And since Remedy is paying a lot of attention to the storyline and the characters right from the start, it's like stepping into a ready-built world.

Alanko said he kept sneaking into pretty much every area of development throughout production, looking over the shoulders of concept artists and trying to get the writers to spill the beans when it came to additional plot details.
I loved the project from the first cinematic onwards. Alan Wake ; they just showed me something and Alan Wake 's theme song started playing in my head. The same thing happened here. What I first wrote is actually in the game. It was May 2011, and that little theme survived until the very end, used in the same context, albeit with a different character.
Alanko said that composing for a game frequently means you're asked to write “numerous meaningless battle sequences,” but turning in tracks of glitchy background music wasn't what he or Remedy had in mind for Quantum Break . This game has an emotional core, and its one Alanko wanted to tell with his soundtrack.
Instead of taking the easy way, I told the separate stories of [ Quantum Break characters] Jack, Beth, Paul/Serene, mixed in some Will and time machine stuff, as well as their intertwining fates, and built it from there. I told the emotional side of the story – one could say the game offers you action and the soundtrack is its mirroring image...showing you the pasts and futures of each event. There's the emotional arc inside of the game, too, and I wanted to emphasize that.
When scoring Quantum Break , Alanko said he found his emotional anchors in loss, love, disappointment and payback. Those were the driving forces he wanted beating at the heart of his tracks. Of those four, he said disappointment was the hardest to portray in sound.
It's so close to rage, if mistreated, a bit like in real life. If you let a grudge grow, it'll eventually kill you. It's in there, in the darker shades and sound library origins, but it surfaces also with some harmonic exchanges, the way chords were formed, etc.

As for which emotion he had the most fun writing, Alanko said it was the “most powerful force” imaginable, an untold love.
You don't really change before you've loved someone so deeply; it alters something in you, for good. And those changes tend to happen before anything about your feelings are expressed to the other. The molds are formed there and when – and if – the feelings are mutual, only then the molds are filled. But even if they're left empty, they're changing you.
Alanco said that he does not really enjoy writing to action within a scene, as he finds that process uninteresting and, much of the time, the music is treated as a mere sound effect to what is happening on screen. He created a more dynamic soundtrack for Quantum Break , which you can actually check out several full tracks by visiting the soundcloud. He said that the tricky part of writing a video game soundtrack is that “everything must fit everything.”
Video games aren't a linear art form. As the changes on-screen can happen in a second, the music has to follow in a snap. Even one bar late would feel a bit odd and would affect the experience. This must be done by several rather cunning tricks, and Quantum Break 's audio team was right on top of the tip.

For Quantum Break , Alanko said he had to sample dozens of metallic objects to get the process rolling, adding in guitar feedback, neon light buzzing, electromagnetic interference and “even so-called spy radios.” From there, he said he processed and stretched the sounds beyond recognition, “paving a path to walk on” and leading to the game's unique soundscape.
Quantum Break refined both the company's and my chops. What surprised me this time, however, was the amount of fine-tuning. Sometimes editing out one second of a cinematic would mean the whole accompanying track had to change, as the power structure or the tension changed.
Alanko said he learned how to lose many of his babies on the cutting room floor while working with Remedy on Alan Wake , and those skills translated well into this new project. And like with Alan Wake , Alanko said he hopes he has created another soundtrack that is “somewhat timeless.”
Hopefully [the soundtrack] survives listening as is, even without knowing anything about the game,” he said. “[ Quantum Break ] is so incredibly rewarding, really. It's full of very enjoyable gaming moments, gratification and superb gameplay. I'd like to think [players] hum a tune or two and remember the game from those tunes, but also the other way around. I would like to think they'd feel just as entwined with Quantum Break as I was – and still am.
Quantum Break launches for the Xbox One and PC on April 5.
