Minecraft celebrates Chinese New Year

Minecraft celebrates Chinese New Year

This past week, people around the world celebrated the Chinese New Year.

This past week, people around the world celebrated the Chinese New Year. We have now entered the year of the monkey and are determined to make it great. The developers of Minecraft have also decided to celebrate, and they are helping players do the same.

A new set of skins is now availablefor Minecraft Pocket Edition and the Windows 10 Beta Edition. These skins surround the Chinese story of the Journey to the West. Of the 14 new skins available, Red Boy and Guanyin are the only ones available for free. The other 12, however, come all together in a pack that is only $1.99. These include the Monkey King, Jade Emperor, Black Wind Demon, and more. Sounds like a bargain to me.

No word yet on if this skin pack will come to other versions of Minecraft. If you have the Pocket Edition or the Windows 10 Beta Edition, you are part of the lucky few. Go enjoy those Journey to the West skins.

Minecraft is just as good of an education tool as it is for a creation sandbox video game.

Minecraft is just as good of an education tool as it is for a creation sandbox video game. MinecraftEdu, a third-party developer that created an educational version of Minecraft in 2011, has been purchased by Microsoft.

Microsoft is planning on developing a new version of the game “dedicated to learning,” stating that Minecraft: Education Edition is now in the works.

“Of course, every Minecraft player learns essential life-skills like tree-punching and good Creeper-defense but, when used in the right way, Minecraft can help people around the world to learn lots more,” Mojang’s Owen Hill said in a new release about the acquisition.

The goal is to expand the ways it can be used for education while maintaining the price range of $5 per user per year. A large-scale volume license model will eventually become available for “large-scale academic institutions,” although not much else is known about the new model. More on Minecraft: Education Edition can be found here.

A free trial of Minecraft: Education Edition will soon be available to try out this summer.

“It’s going to be a collaborative thing,” Mojang said. “Development of Minecraft: Education Edition will be shaped by a community of educators thanks to education.minecraft.net.The site will host lesson plans and give Minecraft: Education Edition users somewhere to discuss ideas and provide feedback. We know teachers can be a rowdy bunch, so we’re looking into the best ways to moderate the forums as I type. Wish us luck.”

Sony Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium First Impressions

Sony Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium First Impressions

At the pre-IFA launch event in Berlin on Wednesday, the Xperia Z5 Premium was mentioned almost as an afterthought as Sony President and CEO Kazuo Hirai took time to walk through the features of the Sony Xperia Z5 and its smaller sibling, the Z5 Compact.

Sony Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium First Impressions

Sony unveiled its flagship smartphone lineup for 2015, and instead of the two variants that most were expecting, we got three - the Sony Xperia Z5, the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, and the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium.

However, it was the Premium that grabbed most of the headlines for being the first smartphone with a 4K display. While we've seen the emergence of 2K displays on smartphones, most people we know are happy with full-HD resolution. In fact, the iPhone 6 isn't even full-HD and still we've yet to come across average users who say that it has a "low resolution" screen.

( Also see: Sony Xperia Z5 vs. LG G4 vs. Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. iPhone 6 Plus)

In that context, is the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium a concept more than anything else? Is it an attempt by Sonyto push the boundaries of what's possible and remind everyone that there's plenty of innovation left in the old warhorse? While company representatives wouldn't directly comment on the subject, reading between the lines suggests that is at least part of the motivation.

"I believe there is still great potential for innovation within consumer electronics. At Sony we'll continue to make advances that make your life better and to provide you with wow experiences," Hirai said as part of a statement released to the media.

( Also see: Sony Xperia Z5 Compact vs. LG G4 vs. Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. iPhone 6)

And the Premium certainly lives up to the hype. We spent around 24 hours with the Xperia Z5 Premium and Xperia Z5 before the launch event, and a few minutes with the Xperia Z5 Compact at the demo area at the launch venue. Apart from the screen size and resolution, the three phones are practically identical, and apart from a few niggles - some of which can be attributed to the fact that what we received were pre-release units - they represent a package with plenty of potential.

sony_z5_premium_fix_exposure_settings_before_using_ndtv_008.jpg

Display
There's no doubt that the screen on the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is stunning. At over 800 pixels per inch, the display is obviously the highest resolution yet, but in terms of everyday use, most would be hardpressed to spot any noticeable improvement in terms of density compared to, say, the display on the Samsung Galaxy S6.

( Also see: Sony Xperia Z5 Premium vs. LG G4 vs. Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. iPhone 6 Plus)

In fact, apart from the occasion when we had both smartphones under the lens in side-by-side comparisons, we didn't spot a significant difference between the Z5 Premium and the Sony Xperia Z5, which has a 'paltry' full-HD display. The Xperia Z5 Compact has a smaller display and a lower resolution 720p panel.

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium (left) and Sony Xperia Z5.

Camera improvements
The headline feature of the new Xperia Z5 series of smartphones is of course the rear camera. The three phones come with 1/2.3 Exmor RS for mobile 23-megapixel sensor and f/2.0 G lens. Sony claims to have designed the camera inside its new flagships using the same technology that's seen in its Alpha range of interchangeable lens cameras. The camera also boasts of the "fastest autofocus in a smartphone" - at 0.037 seconds - and while we couldn't do any side-by-side comparisons with other smartphones during our time with the devices, the camera certainly felt fast enough for most everyday occasions.

sony_xperia_z5_ndtv_1.jpg

One area where we definitely spotted significant improvements is image stabilisation, or SteadyShot as Sony likes to call it. The Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium were able to reduce a large part of the jerkiness that comes when you shoot a video while walking, which is an extremely welcome addition.

sony_xperia_z5_premium_ndtv_005.jpg

Sony is also claiming improvements in low-light performance of the camera, a claim we will put to test as part of our detailed review at a later stage. From whatever little we've seen so far, the camera inside the new Xperia Z5 series of phones has the potential to compete with - if not better - the best in business.

Fingerprint scanner
The other big new feature is addition of a fingerprint scanner, something which people have come to expect from a flagship device. We've seen fingerprint scanners integrated into home buttons (usually work well) and we've come across fingerprint scanners at back of the device (most with disastrous results), and now we have a fingerprint scanner integrated on to the side. Sony seems to have got the hardware and software implementation done just right, as the feature worked as advertised in the time we spent with the devices.

sony_xperia_z5_premium_on_top_of_xperia_z5_006.jpg

Some concerns
Our biggest concern comes from the fact that the phones use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, which has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, especially due to its heating issues. In fact, during the brief time that we spent with the device, we got the overheating warning on a couple of occasions when we were shooting 4K video. Granted, we were outdoor on a hot (by European standards) day, but we should still be able to shoot more than a couple of minutes of videos before running into such problems.

( Also see: Sony Xperia Z5 vs. Sony Xperia Z5 Compact vs. Sony Xperia Z5 Premium)

A Sony representative said the company is aware of these problems and reminded us of the pre-release nature of the unit we'd received. In fact, we were assured that these concerns had been addressed in newer builds and this shouldn't be a problem with units that customers will receive. We can only hope that's indeed the case.

Battery life of the Z5 Premium especially will be under the scanner, given the high resolution display that it needs to power.

Price and availability
Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact will launch globally from October 2015, and Xperia Z5 Premium will hit the markets in November 2015. The Sony Xperia Z5 and Sony Xperia Z5 Premium will be available in both single SIM and dual SIM variants, with India expected to get the dual SIM models of the phones sometime before Diwali. The way things stand at the moment, the Xperia Z5 Compact is unlikely to come to the Indian shores, though that may change in the future. Prices for individual markets will be shared closer to launch.

Disclosure: Sony sponsored the correspondent's flights and hotel for the launch event in Berlin.

App Developers Back Pacific Rim Trade Deal

App Developers Back Pacific Rim Trade Deal

An organization of more than 5,000 app developers will throw its support on Monday behind President Obama's Pacific Rim trade deal, a move that administration officials said signals the benefits of the pact to the high-tech economy.

App Developers Back Pacific Rim Trade Deal

ACT/The APP Association, which represents small and midsize companies, said in a statement that the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) represents "an invaluable template for how the United States can proactively use cutting-edge trade policy to modernize" international commerce.

US Trade Representative Michael Froman plans to announce the endorsement Monday as part of a push to increase support for the TPP at a time when the trade accord has faced widespread criticism from both parties on the campaign trail. Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) is the only major presidential candidate in either party who supports the deal, which still must win congressional ratification before being enacted.

"The app economy is a unique and revolutionary example of American ingenuity," Froman said in a statement to The Washington Post. "It's also an important advantage for the United States' global competitiveness that we should work together to help grow and strengthen."

The TPP is the largest regional trade pact in history, knitting together 36 percent of the world's gross domestic product. Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore are among the countries in the deal.

But Obama faces stiff opposition from most congressional Democrats, labor unions and environmental groups. Administration officials have sought to counter fears that the accord could harm traditional manufacturing industries in the United States by highlighting the reduction of thousands of tariffs in other countries.

The administration also has emphasized the stakes for high-tech industries where the United States maintains a global edge. The TPP aims to strengthen patents for pharmaceutical, financial and information technology companies, extend copyrights for entertainment studios, and safeguard the free flow of data across borders for Internet and software firms.

ACT/The App Association highlighted six areas of the deal that it said would help technology firms, including protections on intellectual property, rules barring countries from requiring tech firms to set up local infrastructure, and the prohibition of charging customs duties on digital content.

"Thanks to the rise of cloud services, American app companies make a large portion of their revenue from overseas sales through the app stores," said Morgan Reed, executive director of the organization. "While the global digital economy holds great promise for small companies, data localization policies and barriers that prevent cross-border data flow would severely harm opportunities to grow outside the United States."

DirectX Co-Creator Draws Games Industry Ire for Propagating Slave Labour

DirectX Co-Creator Draws Games Industry Ire for Propagating Slave Labour

Alex St. John, the co-creator of DirectX's family of APIs and co-founder of WildTangent, laid out his views on game development and his arguments against people wanting work-life balance in the industry over the weekend. He has since drawn considerable ire from people within the industry for helping defend the malpractices and incompetence of video game bosses.

St. John believesthat many modern game developers have embraced a culture of victimology and a bad attitude toward their chosen vocations. "They complain that the long hours and personal sacrifices great games require are a consequence of poor management," he added.

"They want to pretend that they can turn an inherently entrepreneurial endeavour like game development into a 9-to-5 job. Somehow, these people have managed to adopt a wage-slave attitude toward one of the most remarkable and privileged careers in the world."

He goes on to point that "making games is not a job - it's an art". It's quite a horrible way to defend the terrible working conditions that are going on already in the video gaming industry, and St. John's remarks only serve to propagate them further.

Thankfully, for what it's worth, his peers in similar positions have displayed a lot more maturity. Tim Dawson, co-founder of Australian indie developer Witch Beam, took to Twitter to provide an alternate angle on the subject.

yeah so I'm independent now, but I worked for years at normal studios and did an awful lot of unpaid overtime and worked under bad managers

-- Tim Dawson (@ironicaccount) April 17, 2016

... unpaid overtime / crunch is inefficient. It can get the ball over the line, but costs. Bosses who think otherwise are bad at their jobs

-- Tim Dawson (@ironicaccount) April 17, 2016

... your boss should NEVER tell you that you should be thankful to have your job. This is not how jobs work, and this is a sign of abuse ...

-- Tim Dawson (@ironicaccount) April 17, 2016

Jane Ng, artist on this year's Firewatch, went with a much more sarcastic approach to the whole thing.

Did you know Firewatch could have had AAA realistic graphics mode with 10x better pixels if I wasn't such a wage slave

-- Jane Ng (@thatJaneNg) April 17, 2016

Rami Ismail, co-founder of Vlambeer, preferred to break the entire St. John rant down and respond in chunks. On the topic of long hours coming out of poor management, he said: "And rightfully so, structural crunch is a horrible attitude and can really damage someone's ability to function and enjoy their dream job."

As for St. John's observation of video game development being pushing a mouse around, he said: "...Game development is far more than that. Programmers are continuously working at their utmost mental capacity, solving and optimizing highly complex and intricate codebases. Modellers and artists are continuously creative, operating complex software to create high-quality art that needs to not just look nice but also animate, shade, and interact nicely. Musicians are continuously creative, exploring new ways to weave game and sonic qualities. Designers are continuously struggling with communicating ideas, creating interaction, player feedback, [and] test feedback, at the forefront of our understanding of human-machine interaction."

"[There are] dozens of more jobs that are all equally important to creating a great game, and none of them [end] with pushing the mouse around. The jobs involved in the actual creation of a game require high degrees of specialisation, research, and care."

But the best piece of criticism for St. John's opinions on game development were offered by the experiences of his past self. In an interviewfor "On The Career Path", Christopher Redner noted St. John "started to burn out" at his job in Microsoft back in 1997. "He would pass out at his keyboard and straggle into morning meetings with key marks on his face. Worked sucked everything out of him; his marriage disintegrated," he added.

Redner also talked about St. John's hiring practices during his time as CEO of WildTangent. "As a CEO, St. John makes sure his staff is populated by younger versions of himself--smart, energetic, creative problem-solvers with workaholic tendencies--and hires sharp managers to tame them."

HTC 10 'Global' Variant Headed to India, Says Company

HTC has so far caused quite a lot of confusion regarding which model of its new flagship, the HTC 10, it intends to launch in India. The company on Thursday provided a statement that intended to clarify the issue, but did little to clear the muddy waters.

"We are pleased to announce that global flagship HTC 10 is coming soon to India. Stay tuned for the announcement and the availability date," Faisal Siddiqui, President HTC South Asia.

We asked the company what this meant precisely, would the Snapdragon 820 variant of the smartphone launch in India? The company refused to elaborate however, so for now, your guess is as good as ours, and we can all be glad the confusion will be cleared "soon" alongside the smartphone's launch.

To recall, in its launch statementon Tuesday, the company had said it would launch the Snapdragon 820-based HTC 10in some markets, and the Snapdragon 652-based HTC 10 Lifestylein others.

The HTC 10 Lifestyle with Snapdragon 652 was listed by the company on its India site simultaneously, while the US site featured the HTC 10 with Snapdragon 820. This implied the company would be launching the HTC 10 Lifestyle in India with a lower-powered processor. When asked for a confirmation, HTC said no decision had been takenas to which variant it would bring to India.

Soon after, the company updated its India site to list the Snapdragon 820 variant instead. The flip-flop did not end there however. HTC on Thursday reverted the India listing back to the Snapdragon 652 variant. To recall, the differences between the HTC 10 Lifestyle and HTC 10 also extend to the presence of a sapphire lens on the rear panel of the former, and the availability of a 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant for the latter.

Feature: The Pencil iPhone Stand

Feature: The Pencil iPhone Stand

I wanted to watch a video on my iPhone yesterday, whilst doing some work on my PC, but not matter what I tried to prop the iPhone up I couldn’t get it at the right angle to watch the video.

Taking inspiration from the well know iPhone Bulldog clip standbut not having any bulldog clips to hand. I fashioned together a landscape iPhone stand using 4 pencils and elastic bands.

The 4 pencil stand works great for the 2G iPhone but if you have a 3G iPhone you may need to use 2 pencils for the horizontal support due to the extra thickness, making a total of 5 pencils for the 3G iPhone (as pictured).

Its really simple to construct and should only take a few minutes and is completely collapsible

If you have a 3G phone first strap two pencils together with one elastic band at either end to make the horizontal phone support. Then make a triangle using two more pencils. Then add the final pencil as the back support. You can adjust the stability and support given by tightening the top elastic band tension.

If you are using it on a slippery desk surface and have a pencil with an eraser on it use the eraser end on the desk to give added support and stop the leg from slipping. That’s it have fun…

Apple iPad Review

Apple iPad Review

The Apple iPad, that is all we have been hearing about for the last couple of months, but does it live up to all the hype?

The Apple iPad, that is all we have been hearing about for the last couple of months, but does it live up to all the hype? The Geeky Gadgets team have been testing out the iPad since we got our hands on a couple when they went on sale in the UK on the 28th of May.

We have put the iPad through its paces, to give you guys a good idea of what it can and cant do, and whether it is the ‘magical’ gadget that Apple says it is, in this review we will look at everything the iPad has to offer.

Apple iPad Review

Specifications

The Apple ipad features a 9.7 inch diagonal LED backlit glossy widescreen multi-touch display, with IPS technology and a 1024 x 768 resolution and the screen is designed to be fingerprint resistant.

Processing is provided by a 1GHz Apple A4 custom designed high performance, low power processor on a chip, there is also a built in accelerometer and an ambient light sensor.

The battery is a built in 25Whr rechargeable Lithium-polymer battery that will give you up to ten hours of usage, whilst browsing the web, watching a video or listening to music over WiFi.

It features an Apple dock connector so you can hook it up to your PC or Mac, built in speakers, a microphone, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a SIM card tray on the WiFi + 3G model.

The iPad measures 9.56 inches tall by 7.47 inches wide by 0.5 inches deep and weighs in at just 1.5 pounds for the WiFi model, and 1.6 pounds for the WiFi and 3G Model.

Design

Apple iPad Review

The design of the iPad is exactly what you would expect from Apple, it is very slim measuring just 0.5 inches thick, although when I first picked the iPad up my first impressions was that it was quite heavy, but this is something you get used to, it isn’t actually that heavy weighing in at 1.5 pounds.

The screen on the iPad is sharp and it features a very similar design to that of the iPhone, the back of the iPad is encased in curved aluminum, and it looks great.

On the front of the iPad there is a home button, which works exactly the same way as the iPhone, at the top you get a 3.5mm audio jack and an on off button, on the bottom there is the standard Apple dock connector, and you get an up and down volume button on the side as well as a home screen lock button that stops the iPad switching from portrait to landscape mode when you move it around.

Overall the design on the iPad is very slick, and it definitely feels like a well built product, I love the aluminum on the back, it looks much more stylish than the back of the iPhone.

User Interface

Apple iPad Review

The Apple iPad shares the same user interface  and operating system as the iPhone, if you already own an iPhone or have used one in the past picking up the iPad will feel very familiar.

The iPad features a virtual keyboard which can be used with the majority of applications on the iPad, having a larger screen than that of the iPhone makes everything so much easier, especially with tasks like email and surfing the web.

The virtual keyboard is very good, it is a lot easier to use than the one on the iPhone, that is obviously down to having a larger screen and a larger keyboard, navigation on the iPad is simple, you just swipe through the various home screens with your applications on them.

Apple iBooks

Apple iBooks

One of the most touted feature by Apple since they announced the iPad is their new iBooks platform. iBooks lets you read electronic books on the iPad, and it seems to work pretty well.

If you are a book lover who uses a Kindle or another electronic book reader, then you will like the iPad, and Apple are expanding their library of books, although there are around 60,000 books at the moment, this compares to around 450,000 books on the Kindle platform.

Videos On the iPad

Apple iPad Review

There are a couple of options for watching videos on the iPad, it comes with a built in YouTube application that lets you watch basically anything from you tube. The quality is great over WiFi, over 3G it isn’t as good and the difference is noticeable.

There are also a number of video streaming applications available for the iPad from the App store, and of course it comes with a built in video application the same as the iPhone that will let you sync your videos from iTunes.

The iPad is good for videos, not great, the 1024 x 768 resolution screen means you cant watch full HD videos on, the highest resolution video we managed to get running on it was 1280 x 720, obviously there is some downscaling on this.

It is very similar to watching videos on the iPhone, although you have a much larger screen, so it is ideal for travelling or for when you are away from home and want to watch a movie.

Web Browsing And Email

Apple iPad Review

This is where the iPad really shines, it is great for browsing the web and for email, it makes everything do simple, no longer to you have to wait for your Mac or PC to boot up so you can browse the web, just press a button, hit the Safari icon and you are automatically connected to the Internet.

One thing that the iPad doesn’t support (and everyone knows) is Adobe Flash, personally I haven’t found this to be a major problem, I have only had a problem with maybe two or three websites in total out of a few hundred since I got the iPad, but then I am used to this on the iPhone.

Email from the iPad is very good as well, having used the iPhone for the past couple of years for email when I am away from home, the iPad makes a big difference, having the larger screen makes everything so much easier, and the ability to be able to check your email on a large screen without having to boot up your Mac or PC is great.

Normally both my PC and Mac stay on pretty much all the time, since I have had the iPad I have found myself switching them off more and more, and using the iPad.

Battery Life

Apple iPad Review

Apple says the battery on the iPad will give you up to 10 hours of usage, this is an impressive claim, and something that I was quite skeptical of considering how often I have to charge my iPhone.

To say the battery life on the iPad is impressive is an understatement, we tried the iPad out doing routine tasks like browsing the web, email, watching the occasional video, playing with a few applications, everything you would normally do on the iPad, we had it set on 50 percent brightness.

I was amazed buy the results as our iPad lasted for 10 hours and 37 minutes, before it turned itself off. Over the last week with around two to three hours of usage of the iPad a day I have only had to charge the iPad twice, this makes a refreshing change from my iPhone which needs charged every day.

The battery life is excellent, this is one of the definite plus points of the iPad, as it means you can use it when you are travelling or out and about without having to worry about charging it.

Applications and Games

Apple iPad Reviiew

Already there are some great applications for the iPad as well as games, although we haven’t spent that much time on games, we have tested out quite a few of the applications.

One feature that isn’t in the iPad at the moment, but is coming later in the year is multitasking, this will be a welcome addition to the iPad, as there have been a couple of instances already where I could have used this feature.

Without the multitasking on the iPad, it is more suited to an entertainment device at the moment, rather than a work tool, there are quite a few of my daily tasks that I couldn’t perform on the iPad and I have had to use either my PC or Mac instead, hopefully this is something that will be improved when Apple releases iOS4 for the iPad.

Conclusion

The iPad is a great device, it does exactly what  it says on the tin, it isn’t designed to replace your computer, instead it is designed to make certain tasks very easy.

Personally I found the iPad great for surfing the web and email, these are daily tasks which I have to complete quite regularly, and being able to just pick up the iPad and get on with things is great.

If you are the sort of person who uses a computer for browsing the web and email, then you will like the iPad, if you want to use it for more complicated tasks, at the moment, until we see what multitasking is like you may be better off using a laptop.

The iPad is a great entertainment device, good for watching videos, looking at photos , playing games, catching up with your friends on Facebook and Twitter, surfing the web and email.

When Apple launched the 1st iPhone, it hardly had any of the features it does now, if Apple can manage to keep moving the iPad forward the way the did with the iPhone with regular software updates and new features it could end up being one of their most popular gadgets to date.

If you mainly use your computer for entertainment, rather than work, we would definitely recommend checking out the Apple iPad, it is a really fun device to use, it won’t replace your notebook or computer just yet.

We have tested out both the WiFi and 3G models, the WiFi model was a 16GB version, whilst the WiFi and 3G model was a 32GB version. I would recommend that you check out both models, if you do a lot of travelling then the 3G version is the one to get.

The Pencil iPad Stand Reloaded

Last week Julian made a cool stand for his iPad using 6 pencils and four rubber bands, it became very popular and we have received quite a few emails from our readers with their own version of the Pencil iPad Stand .

One of those readers was Will Smothers, who sent us in what he calls, the Pencil iPad Stand Reloaded, and rather than using pencils and rubber bands will decided to construct a stand for the iPad from scratch based on Julian’s original design.

Pencil iPad Stand Reloaded

Will constructed his iPad stand from aluminum rods, which he cut down to size, he then decided to cover the ends of the aluminum rods in a Plasti Dip coating to make sure that his iPad was protected.

Batman Vs. Superman's Gal Gadot Reveals Her Contract Length As Wonder Woman

Batman Vs. Superman's Gal Gadot Reveals Her Contract Length As Wonder Woman

When actors and actresses make deals to star in comic book movies these days, they never only sign one picture deals.

When actors and actresses make deals to star in comic book movies these days, they never only sign one picture deals. Hollywood has discovered that superheroes make absolutely fantastic franchise fodder, and in order to create series continuity studios lock performers up in multi-picture deals. We are no longer asking "when" our favorite actors will play our favorite heroes, but instead "how many times?" The new question came up most recently when it was announced last monththat Fast & Furious ' Gal Gadot had signed on to play Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder's upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie, and now we have an answer.

Just as she did late last year, Gadot recently did an interview with the Israeli entertainment show Good Evening with Gai Pines , and according to Batman-Newsin their report the show revealed that the actress has signed a three-picture deal with Warner Bros. and DC Comics that will see her playing Princess Diana of Themyscira for many years to come. The story adds that she will be making $300,000 for her appearance in the Man of Steel sequel (which still doesn't have an official title) and that production will start up this May (fitting with WB's announced plans last week when the project's release date was bumpedto 2016). You can watch the video report below, but you may not understand it unless you

Before you start getting to excited about the prospect of a Wonder Woman solo movie, know that this news isn't necessarily a guarantee of that. It's pretty clear that Warner Bros. and DC Comics have some very real plans of a Justice League movie - which makes for two guaranteed Wonder Woman appearances for Gadot including Batman vs. Superman - but any plans beyond that are unknown. Remember: Mark Ruffalo has a six-picture deal with Marvel Studios, but we have yet to hear any concrete details about another Hulk movie. It's possible that the studios are keeping the idea of a third movie out there so that they will be ready for anything if plans change over the next few crucial years.

In addition to Gadot, the upcoming Batman vs. Superman will star Henry Cavill as the Man of Tomorrow, Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Lawrence Fishburne as Perry White. Snyder and Man of Steel co-writer David S. Goyer developed the story for the sequel and took care of early drafts, but now Oscar winning Argo screenwriter Chris Terriois holding the pen. The film won't be a part of the mega franchise year that is 2015 alongside The Avengers: Age of Ultron , Jurassic World , the Terminator reboot and Star Wars: Episode VII , but will now be hitting theaters on May 6, 2016. Are you excited yet?

Batman Vs. Superman's Gal Gadot Talks About Wonder Woman's Body

Batman Vs. Superman's Gal Gadot Talks About Wonder Woman's Body

Since being cast as Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder's upcoming Man of Steel sequel , actress Gal Gadot has been at the center of quite a bit on controversy.

, actress Gal Gadot has been at the center of quite a bit on controversy. Because the Amazonian superhero has forever been drawn as a statuesque, strong woman, many comic book fans have complained that Gadot is too small for the part, both in musculature and height (she is 5'9" while her co-stars Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck are 6'1" and 6'3", respectively). Since the casting was announced earlier this monththere has been no official word from the actress about the controversy, but now that silence has been broken thanks to a recent episode of the Israeli television series Good Evening With Gai Pines.

While the interview was conducted in Hebrew, Gadot's native tongue, a reader from Batman-Newshas translated and transcribed what the actress had to say about some of the criticism that her Wonder Woman casting has received. The subject was first tackled in the interview when Gadot was asked about being too skinny and the comic book character's large bust. Describing herself as "the Wonder Woman of the new world," she noted that bigger breasts can now be purchased for "9,000 shekels" and that doesn't really matter that much. She then followed that bit up with a bit of history:
"Wonder Woman is amazonian, and historically accurate amazonian women actually had only one breast. So, if I’d really go 'by the book'…it’d be problematic."
While the actress' chest doesn't seem like something the production is really focusing on, Gadot is now starting to do work to make herself a bit more physically fit the character in other areas. With cameras scheduled to start rolling in the first half of next year, the actress is beginning her new diet and exercise routine to get her in shape. Said the star,
"It’s the physical preparations that I’m starting now. A very serious training regimen – Kung Fu, kickboxing, swords, jujutsu, Brazilian…1,000 and 1 things…I’ll gain body mass."
What still remains a mystery is exactly how much of the film will actually include Wonder Woman. As was announced this past summer at San Diego Comic-Con, the Man of Steel sequel is set to be the first live-action movie to feature both Superman and Batman, and introducing Wonder Woman's entire back story into the mix could end up making the whole movie a bit structurally messy. Then again, Gadot may only play a cameo-level role, and right now is actually getting ready for the inevitable Justice League film. Hopefully we'll know more as we get closer to the start of production.

In addition to having Gadot as Wonder Woman, Cavill as Superman and Affleck as Batman, the untitled Batman vs. Superman film will also see the return of Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent and Lawrence Fishburne as Perry White. Chris Terrio, who won an Academy Award for his Argo script, is currently doing a rewriteon the script initially penned by David Goyer.

The 20 Biggest Justified Deaths Of All Time, Ranked

The 20 Biggest Justified Deaths Of All Time, Ranked

On this lonely road, a lot of Justified characters tried to make it home, but instead met their makers at the hands of one of the many deadly personalities roaming the streets of Kentucky.

characters tried to make it home, but instead met their makers at the hands of one of the many deadly personalities roaming the streets of Kentucky. Based on the work of legendary author Elmore Leonard, Justified is a show where recurring characters bite so much dust, entire shipments of dust probably need to be brought in on a weekly basis. And that’s part of what makes it so damned fun and exciting, because when your lead characteris a quick-drawing sharpshooter, you don’t want to see him filling out paperwork in every episode.

It would be a monumental task to list everyone who has been killed on Justified in its six seasons, as “natural causes” presumably isn’t listed on anyone’s death certificate, so we decided to round up the 20 biggest deaths that the show had to offer. There are good guys, there are bad guys, and there some truly heinous assholes in this bunch. (Unfortunately, Robert Quarles and his lopped-off arm aren’t listed, as it was never proven that he died.) If you don’t see one of your favorites on here, take it up with U.S. Attorney Vasquez. And finally, there are SPOILERS here, people, so be warned.

”justified”As a henchman, John Kapelos’ Ethan Picker was one rotten son of a bitch. He flipped on his former boss Nicky Augustine, taking part in his execution, and later executed the arrogant Sammy Tonin after he became the head of the Detroit Mafia.  But Picker was the guy who could tie Raylan to Nicky’s death, and he also didn’t particularly care for Boyd, so his time on Earth was definitely limited. The way in which he died made him legendary, though, as he was the victim of an exploding pack of cigarettes that Boyd put together. Smoking kills, y’all.

Rest in so many pieces, Picker.

”The intimidation factor brought upon by Avery Markham’s goon Boon is directly proportionate to how stupid Jonathan Tucker’s mustache and hair looked. Which is to say, always extremely intimidating and stupid. But the fact that he would frighten and/or kill anything that moved was part of his anti-charm, as he made a hella-strong impression on audiences despite only being in half a season. His attempts to emulate Raylan just made their final showdown all the greater, and I’ll accept the fact that he grazed Raylan’s head for paying the ultimate price.

Get a haircut in Hell, Boon.

”

18. Danny Crowe

Not a single scene with A.J. Buckley’s Danny Crowe went by that failed to strike up an urge to drive a truck through his face. I think we can all agree that the Crowe family is one of TV’s most reprehensible, and Danny was the least charismatic shithead of them all. Like many of the show’s villains, his death was most poetic, as he fell victim to his own dumbass “21-foot rule” challenge. While trying to attack Raylan, he accidentally fell into a grave he’d just dug for his dog Chelsea and stabbed himself through the neck and mouth. It was gloriously disgusting, especially for this show.

R.I.P. Chelsea, but not Danny.

”

17. Rodney “Hot Rod” Dunham

As played by the instantly recognizable Mickey Jones, Hot Rod was one of the rare non-major characters who lived through four seasons, even though he wasn’t actually seen in Season 4. As a heavy in the marijuana trade, he wasn’t exactly the most brutal character, but always seemed to be involved with a crazy set-up. It was a shame to see him go, as he was shot in the stomach by his former henchman, but he went out in style, stabbing his attacker in the neck with a pencil and revealing himself to be a DEA informant.

Rest in pot smoke, Hot Rod.

16. Ty Walker

Ty Walker, played with a perfectly militarized tension by Garret Dillahunt, was one of Season 6’s deadly baddies, and one that I thought would make it to the end, given how precisely he handled most situations. But he makes the mistake of getting into a shootout with Raylan and Tim Gutterson – which is dumber than asking Choo-Choo about calculus – and although he lives through that experience, he later holds Ava and Earl hostage before getting gunned down by Raylan. Pretty sure Boyd would have skinned him alive for that, so he actually made it out easy.

R.I.P. Choo-Choo. I’ll leave it up to him to judge how peaceful Walker’s afterlife will be.

15. Daryl Crowe Jr.

I can’t lie, I found Michael Rapaport’s Daryl Crowe to be one of the most endlessly entertaining villains Justified ever gave fans, even if it was mostly based on that ridiculously backwoods accent. Daryl was the “wisest” of the Crowe clan, although his smarts usually just meant he made other people do the dirty work. (Or at the very least made them take the blame for his own dirty work.) His death was about as amazing as it gets on this show, as he was shot in the neck and in the groin by his sister Wendy. No man should have to go out like that, but then he was less of a man at that point anyway.

Rest in penis wounds, Daryl.

14. Colton Rhodes

In a perfect world, Ron Eldard’s Colton Rhodes would be on a reality program with Danny Crowe where the only point of the show was watching them hit each other in the face with an endless supply of bricks. Throughout Season 4, Colton was one of Boyd’s worst underlings, for several reasons, but he was an important character in that he was one of the only quasi-plotlines that Tim ever got that wasn’t just “following Raylan and/or Rachel.” Colton pompously antagonized Tim a little too much, though, and paid the price by getting shot down. At least he was smart enough to know it was coming.

Go eat your sunglasses, you prick.

13. Bo Crowder

One of the reasons Justified ’s first season was so gripping was M.C. Gainey’s intimidating Bo Crowder, who was not only Boyd’s father, but that of Bowman, the abusive dipshit that Ava killed. As with most people who try to become big-time meth dealers, Bo’s every action was of the criminal sort, and he even tried using his association with Arlo as a way to kill Raylan. Unfortunately, Boyd couldn’t even get the joy of killing his own Ava-kidnapping father, as Bo was shot down by Miami gunrunners hiding out in the woods. Why couldn’t Boyd just talk him to death like he’d asked?

Meth in peace, Bo.

12. Avery Markham

Goddamn, but it pains me to write about any Sam Elliott character biting the dust, especially Avery Markham, the rootinest-tootinest marijuana dealer that has ever existed. He and his low and slow drawl are two of the reasons why Season 6 felt like a throwback to the early years of Justified , although he obviously wasn’t going to be one of the few still standing in the end. But it wasn’t quite clear how he was going to say goodbye, and I’m not sure “getting shot through the eyeball by Boyd” was at the top of my list. Here’s hoping he mourned Katherine’s death long enough.

R. EYE. P. Markham.

”

11. Carl Lennon

As one of Boyd’s later right-hand-men, Carl was about as loyal as they come, though he was a hell of a lot more rude and hardcore than his younger brother Earl. (He was also afraid of snakes, but that’s another story.) No amount of loyalty could save him in the end, though, as Boyd had no problems setting him up as the fall guy in his money-grubbing scheme. And when Carl got out of jail and went to kill Boyd in the hospital, his allegiance failed him once again, as he handed Boyd the weapon that was immediately used to kill him. Classic Carl.

R.I.P., dummy.

”

10. Nicky Augustine

Nicky Augustine was a self-centered bastard throughout Season 4 of Justified , but he’s played by Mike O’Malley, so it’s literally impossible not to enjoy his presence most of the time. (Although nowhere near enough characters noogied his big bald head.) Nicky was one of the characters whose death was far more important than his life, as it was another walk on the unlawful side for Raylan, who allowed it to happen, setting in motion the troublesome part of his relationship with Art and other superiors who suspected him. He sure had GUTS!

R.I.P., Nicky. I hope they buried you in your limo.

”

9. Jimmy Tolan

I mean seriously, houseflies have a way of living longer than Boyd’s henchmen, though Jimmy probably lasted the longest and made the biggest impact. We’ll forgive him for initially getting in with Johnny Crowder, as he proved to be essential to Boyd’s rise to…whatever level of criminal Boyd got to by the end of Season 5. Jimmy’s death was a hard one to watch, as he was bound to a chair when dickhead thug Manolo shot him in the chest as a consequence for Boyd’s lies. Boyd rarely looked so downtrodden, and that’s a crime in and of itself.

R.I.P. Jimmy.

8. Katherine Hale

Mary Steenburgen’sKatherine Hale offered Justified the perfect piece of southern fried class…at least until all of her secrets came out and her duplicitous plans to steal lover Avery Markham’s money non-literally blew up in her face. With nothing much else to do at that point, she tried to take her anger out on Duffy by killing him, but that’s when Mikey came in and saved the day, taking a handful of bullets before crushing her windpipe atop a table that Duffy was hiding under. I wish she would have had been around longer than just these past two seasons, but her last scene was at the apex of intensity.

R.I.P. Ms. Hale, presumably in Hell’s penthouse.

”

7. Mikey Cosmatopolis

Rarely has a Justified character experienced such a rapid deepening in personality as old Mike “He Hates the Name Mikey” Cosmatopolis, Wynn Duffy’s bodyguard as played with fashionable precision by Jonathan Kowalsky. Brought into the fold back in Season 2, Mikey was a solid background character until a few episodes ago when he decided Wynn’s informant behavior didn’t fit his code. Despite initially intending to harm Duffy, Mikey shows his true colors in that shocking brawlwith Katherine, in which he took five bullets to save his employer’s life. Aw, shucks, though.

Rest in Duffy’s arms, Mikey.

6. Helen Givens

Everybody needs a family member to get along with, and Raylan’s aunt/stepmother Helen was his. She wanted to keep Raylan away from Arlo’s terrible influence, and although her first appearance has her begging Raylan to get Arlo out of jail, she usually came out ahead with a shotgun in hand. Unsurprisingly, it was Arlo’s dirty dealings that inevitably led to Helen’s death at the hands of the seemingly immortal Dickie Bennett, and I for one am extremely glad that her death haunted him after, even if he turned into an even bigger shithead.

R.I.P. Helen, one of Harlan’s finest, mostly by default.

”

5. Mags Bennett

Margo Martindale was one of the finest actresses that Justified had going for it, which was all the way back in Season 2. As the head of the Bennett clan, Mags not only had to deal with her dipshit sons Doyle, Dickie and Coover, but she later brought Loretta in after killing her father. She was a ruthless old bitch, but she was a mother first and foremost. Rather than poisoning Raylan with her special apple pie moonshine – which she easily could have done and he’d have been none the wiser – she chooses to poison herself to death after seeing her family fall to pieces.

R.I.P. Mags. You should have had a spinoff.

”

4. Johnny Crowder

As one of Justified ’s most resolute shitheels, David Meunier’s Johnny Crowder was the most insufferable of the Crowder bunch, if only because we never got to meet Bowman. Most people who take a shotgun blast to the stomach from their own father learn something from it, but Johnny just kept trying to find ways to fuck people over. And he made that mistake about twelves times too many, and his final plan to overtake Boyd for a Mexican heroin deal left him shot dead in the Mexican desert. Knowing that, I still kept waiting for him to appear in Season 6 as a limping ghost.

”

3. Dewey Crowe

A character that is far more amusing on TV than he would be in person, Damon Herriman’s Dewey Crowe was a constant whirlwind of mispronounced words, misguided worldviews and easily penetrable dreams of running his own criminal kingdom. Dewey was one of Justified ’s most utilized side characters, and he killed every scene he was in. At least until his moronic behavior puts him on Boyd’s permanent shitlist and warranted a bullet in his head. It was one of the show’s biggest shocks, especially coming at the beginning of a season, and it was one of the few Boyd crimes that I kind of hated him for.

R.I.P., Dewey, because blessed are the folks who ain’t never asked Jesus for shit.

”

2. Tommy Bucks

We barely know anything about Peter Greene’s Thomas “Tommy Bucks” Buckley, but it was his death that set all the events of this entire series in motion, so I don’t give a damn if he was only in the show for a few minutes. A drug cartel gunner whose relationship with the Miami-centered Raylan included a man’s head exploding with dynamite, Tommy was the moron who refused Raylan’s offer of self-exile and found himself dead of a bullet wound soon after. Was it a justified kill on Han SoloRaylan’s part? Sure it was, but Raylan still ended up back in Kentucky anyway, and that’s how this wonderful show began.

Maybe R.I.P.? I don’t know. Probably not, though.

”

1. Arlo Givens

Since we never got to meet Raylan’s mother Frances, Raymond Barry’s hard-as-coffin-nails Arlo Givens is our main avenue of understanding Raylan’s past, and what a shitty past it must have been. A mentally unstable sweet-talker who never got on with the scrupulous crowd, Arlo was a violent sod that put his own needs and desires above all others, with very little love lost between him and Raylan. Especially in the end, after he got shanked in the chest with a pair of barber shears, and his last words to Raylan (that we see) are “Kiss my ass.” Raylan’s entire life was plagued by this white-haired blight of parenting, and he’s not even safe from Arlo’s ghostly presence.

No peace for you, Arlo, especially if Raylan keeps trying to dig up the family plots.
