Disney Channel Finally Beats Nickelodeon's 19-Year Streak

We all know that the bread and butter of a successful TV network generally comes from how well shows do during the primetime hours.

But let’s not forget that there are many other hours in the day, and that children aren’t so tethered to scheduled viewing like that. Disney knows that full well, and for the first time in 19 years, the Disney Channel can brag that it has finally beaten out Nickelodeon in total day overall audience for  a cable network. Just think, most of the children that were watching Disney when it was on top probably have their own kids now.

In 2015, Disney Channel brought in an average total day tally of 1.234 million viewers, which was barely a Rapunzel-length hair above Nickelodeon’s total of 1.231 million. A mere 30,000 viewers allowed the House of Mouse to finally take the top spot that SpongeBob SquarePants’ home has earned for almost two decades. It’s obviously been a great year for the network, which boasts a slew of popular current and past series such as Girl Meets World (which brings in multiple generations thanks to familiar faces), Austin & Ally , and Jessie , not to mention airings of Disney XD and Disney Junior programs like Star Wars Rebels and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse , to name a few.

Disney Channel is even doing pretty good in the primetime department, and it ranked #5 for 2015 in total viewers. That makes the 13th year it has made an appearance in that Top 5, according to Deadline. One of the reasons why this boost was seen is because of the villain-filled quasi-spinoff TV movie The Descendants , which Disney claims was the most watched cable TV movie in total viewers with 12.2 million, and was also 2015’s top telecast in the key child demographic.

Not content to just take the second place spot without kicking up at least a little dust, Nickelodeon says that it’s is actually number one as far as the 2-11 demographic is concerned, and that it doesn’t focus on total viewers. Disney apparently can’t refute the kids demo claim, which is possibly why it’s boasting about the total overall. Networks, like children, aren’t free from bickering. Although with the return of classic programmingat Nickelodeon, you’d think they’d want to promote bringing in older viewers nostalgic for Rugrats and Doug . And it’s also unclear just how much, if at all, Nickelodeon’s streaming serviceplays into any of these results.

For a quick comparison, even with all of its headline-grabbing storiesand political coverage, Fox News only averaged 1.088 million total day viewers in 2015. If only they’d have thrown some Dog with a Blog reruns in there.

One has to wonder if Amazon and Netflix, with all of its great kids programming, will ever put forth statistics that allow them to enter the competition. Either way, Disney’s wearing the crown for the rest of 2016.

This is something you never want to happen to you.

This is something you never want to happen to you. Exploding smartphones have become more common, causing people all kinds of grief and injury. As you may remember, The Samsung Galaxy S3, when it was first released, was said by Samsung to have heat-related issues. One exploded in a Thai bank even.

Well, this time it was a Galaxy S3 which was left to charge overnight in Kajaani, Finland, where it then exploded. The owner, a boy, was sleeping on the same bed when the explosion happened.

As you can seeit left a gaping hole from the sheets all the way down to the mattress. This could have been much worse. Good thing the boy did not place the Galaxy S3 on his chest, otherwise he may have been burned at least.

The parents of the boy are not going to contact their insurance company or Samsung. They feel that nothing could have been done because the handset itself is already so old. Still, they are glad the damage was minimal. No one was seriously injured in the incident. Just be careful with your phones, since you never know what might happen. Who knows if the phone is at fault or some third party battery.

Apple shutting down iTunes allowance for kids

The kids.

The kids. Why is no one thinking about the kids? Well, Apple was, but not anymore. After May 25th, you’ll have to find an alternative arrangement for your kids’ iTunes purchases. That is because Apple is shutting down iTunes allowance on that day and has already stopped allowing new users to sign up for the feature on April 13th. Bummer.

In case you are unfamiliar, iTunes allowance automatically replenishes kids’ balance every month with a set amount, from $10 to $50. The idea is that this way they wouldn’t have to have access to your credit card details. Otherwise they could put you in some serious debt and that would really suck.

The company sent out a letter to users where Apple suggests using Family Sharing instead. Sharing gives up to six family members access to each other’s purchases. Another option is Ask to Buy, which kids can use to send you a request whenever they want to get something from the App Store. Both seem like solid options.

The feature itself will no longer be available, but any allowance money left over will still be available for use. After that, you’ll have to use something else. Like the previously mentioned options.

DICE has been super busy making all kinds of downloadable content for Star Wars: Battlefront. And although we already knew the game was getting new stuff this summer, the developer has now shared more details about the Bespin DLC.

I think you are going to like where they are taking things.

As you might expect, Lando Calrissian is being added. The suave scoundrel is a fan favorite, so this should make players happy. He is coming along with Dengar, the bounty hunter from The Clone Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. Both of these arrive in June. That’s not all though. DICE also revealed there will be a total of eight Star Wars heroes in the Battlefront Season Pass, and that includes two who are part of an expansion pack that hasn’t been revealed yet. We don’t know who they are yet, but fans are busy trying to guess. Who do you think they will be? I guess you have a while to formulate your guess. If you are still playing this game, you have a lot to look forward to this year. It should be a good 2016 for fans who can’t get enough of Battlefront. Who knows what else we will see added.

First Look At Jack's Big Return On Girl Meets World

While younger, age-appropriate viewers of Disney Channel’s Girl Meets World can appreciate the show for the relationship and exploits of Riley and Maya, older viewers can get down with the many callbacks to the flagship series Boy Meets World .

. Many lead characters from the latter show have returned, but there’s one person we haven’t seen yet: Jack Hunter. Scratch that, because here he is!



He’s back, everybody! For at least one episode, Matthew Lawrence is reprising his role as Shawn’s half-brother Jack, who was also Eric’s roommate starting in Season 5 of Boy Meets World . He’ll be seen in the upcoming episode “Girl Meets Semi-Formal” alongside Will Friedle’s Eric, who’s making his third appearance this season. To be expected, Jack and Eric show up together in the episode, part of which takes place at a dance at Riley and Maya’s school.

The first clip from the episode shows Eric and Jack arriving at the dance, which Corey appears to be chaperoning. Eric says that he brought Jack there to take him back to a time when life was a little less complicated, which is then interrupted by Riley talking about a seemingly complex situation involving a notebook, a guy and her feelings. To me, seeing two adult men waltzing into a middle school dance without any real reason to be there is a tad more complicated than, say, them hitting a bar or a bowling alley or some other place that they may have frequented in their youth. Even standing outside their old apartment building. But a young adult dance it is. I wonder what Jack from this era would have to say about that.



Those guys aren’t the only guest stars in this weekend’s episode. Girl Meets World viewers will also get to see the Australian pop band Sheppard performing their song “Geronimo” at the dance. I didn’t know who these people were before reading that, so I’m not sure how ecstatic you guys are about it.

Matthew Lawrence hasn’t really been seen too many places over the last few years. His most recent TV roles were on Comedy Central’s Workaholics and on ABC Family’s Melissa and Joey , which stars his older brother Joey Lawrence. It’s entirely possible we’ll see him show up on Girl Meets World in the future.

Jack is the latest in a long line of Boy Meets World characters to appear on this generation-skipping spinoff. We’ve gotten to see the Matthews parents Alan and Amy, Corey’s younger brother Joshua, Corey’s best friend Shawn Hunter, the old teacher/principal Mr. Feeny, the high school bully Harley Keiner, the nerdy Stuart Minkus, Shawn’s old girlfriend Angela, and the English teacher Jonathan Turner. We even got to see Shawn’s dad Chet popping up as a spirit guide.

How Jason Bourne Will Connect To The Previous Bourne Movies

Bourne 5 Is Bringing Back A Pivotal, Original Character

Not only are both franchise star Matt Damon and two-time series director Paul Greengrass returning to the Bourne franchise for the upcoming fifth installment (assuming you consider The Bourne Legacy canon), they’re bringing along another key piece of the saga, Julia Stiles.

According to Deadline, the upcoming action film has been busy casting, and Stiles is now the first confirmed addition to the call sheet, beyond Damon that is. She is set to reprise her role of Nicolette "Nicky" Parsons, a desk jockey CIA analyst who, over the course of the first three movies, proves to be a valuable ally to Damon’s amnesiac super spy, Jason Bourne.

Nicky start off as a relatively small in the larger saga, though she serves as a kind of moral compass inside of the CIA—apparently she thinks it’s rather reprehensible to experiment with people and turn them into cold-blooded killing machines. In the first film, 2002’s The Bourne Identity , she’s basically there just to be held at gunpoint. Bourne also kidnaps her in The Bourne Supremacy , and in Ultimatum she thinks she’s safe because she’s gotten out of the intelligence game, but she still winds up the target of government assassins. She just can’t win.



There have been a number of rumors connecting various actors to fill out the supporting ranks in Bourne 5 , but thus are Stiles is the first one to sign up. Joan Allen’s high-ranking CIA Director Pamela Land has played a key role in the last two Damon Bourne films, and seems a likely candidate to make a comeback. A few months ago it also came out that Alicia Vander, who has won a fair amount of recent acclaim for her turn in Ex Machina , among other films, was being pursued as the potential female lead, though nothing has been heard since and her schedule continues to fill up.

In addition to directing, Paul Greengrass is also writing the screenplay for Bourne 5 , but there isn’t much available in the way of details at this point. With a release date still set for just over a year from now, it seems like things should start to come together before too long. There has been speculation that Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Crosscould show up in some capacity. He was supposed to get a follow up to The Bourne Legacy that was going to be directed by Fast & Furious helmet Justin Lin, but that remains up in the air at this point.

The as yet untitled Bourne 5 was pushed back a few weeks from its original release date to July 29, 2016, likely to put some space between it and Star Trek 3 , which opens earlier that month.

Matt Damon Will Be Jason Bourne Again, Here Are The Details

Following the release of The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007, star Matt Damon told reporters that he had no plans to return to the franchise unless director Paul Greengrass was planning to do the same.

The landscape has changed in the year since, however, and now the Oscar-winning actor has confirmed he will be back for the next Bourne chapter, along with his #1 choice director.



Word of negotiations between Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass leaked out this past September, but now the star has personally confirmed not only that he will be back, but when. With Damon and buddy Ben Affleck recently walking the red carpet celebrating the resurrection of their series Project Greenlight , E!took the opportunity to ask about the future of Bourne, and the series star revealed that a deal has been made. Saying that the plan is to shoot next year, Damon said,
"It'll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. [Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that's all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes."
The Untitled Next Bourne Chapter - or simply Bourne 5 - is currently locked in for a July 15, 2016 release date, but there remains a big question regarding what that means for the future of Jeremy Renner's Bourne character, Aaron Cross. The July 2016 date was originally set aside for a Bourne Legacy sequel that would be directed by Justin Lin (his first non- Fast & Furious film since his directorial debut, Better Luck Tomorrow ). Renner certainly isn't lacking in franchises these days - as he remains heavily active as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universeand he is returning as Brandt in Christopher McQuarrie's currently-in-production Mission: Impossible 5 - but it's also pretty hard to believe that Universal would just be dumping that half of the series.The best bet right now is that we'll either get a Renner-centric Bourne movie at another point in the near future, or Renner's character will be joining up with Matt Damon's in the next film. It all depends on the franchise timetable that Universal has planned out, which may even be a little theoretical at this point.

Given the release date, we can assume that production on Bourne 5 will likely start up around the mid-point of next year - which means that we will surely be hearing about all kinds of plot details (not just those possibly involving Jeremy Renner) and casting rumors pour out over the next few weeks and months. Naturally, we will be following all of it beat by beat, so be sure to stay tuned for the latest updates!

Matt Damon's Downsizing Has Put Together An Incredible Cast

One of the movies that has consistently remained on our radar over the last few years is Alexander Payne’s comedy/drama Downsizing .

.  Centering on a man from Nebraska, Downsizing tells the story of a segment of the population who opt to have their bodies reduced in size so they can join tiny communities around the world. It’s an absolutely bonkers concept, but one that has attracted the acting talents of performers such as Matt Damon, Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz, Neil Patrick Harris, Alex Baldwin, and Hong Chau.

A new report from Indiewireconfirms that, after a string of delays, Alexander Payne’s Downsizing will finally movie forward. The wait seems to be worth it, because the film has clearly managed to assemble an all-star cast that would catch just about anyone’s eye. Leading the ensemble is veteran actor Matt Damon; the man behind Jason Bourne and Will Hunting will portray Nebraska man who decides to improve his life by shrinking his body, although few other character details have come forward.

Of course, Matt Damon isn’t the only Hollywood A-listertaking part in Downsizing , let’s put the rest of the cast under the microscope and take a closer look.


The female lead of Downsizing , Reese Witherspoon obviously needs no introduction. Star of Election and Legally Blonde , Witherspoon won an Oscar in 2006 for her role in the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line , and received another nomination in 2015 for her role in Wild . She’s relatively picky when it comes to her roles, so we can likely assume she has great deal of faith in Downsizing .



If Christoph Waltz doesn’t completely terrify you then you likely haven’t seen a single one of his movies. The Austrian-German actor has remained a constant fixture within the Hollywood landscape ever since he first gained his mainstream recognition with Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds . He’s developed a knack for portraying villains, so we can likely expect him to do the same in Downsizing .



Few actors have nailed the triple threat so effortlessly as Neil Patrick Harris. The former child star has become an icon since his starring role in the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother , and has since gone on to receive critical acclaim on the Broadway stage as well. In terms of silver screen work, he has most recently appeared in David Fincher'sopposite Ben Afflek and Rosamund Pike.



Downsizing will strike a balance between comedy and drama, so it makes perfect sense for the film to enlist Alec Baldwin. The former Jack Ryan has a long list of funny and serious roles on his resume – most notably his stint as Jack Donaghey on the hit NBC series 30 Rock .


Likely the least recognizable name on this list, Hong Chau is a Hollywood up and comer who has cut her teeth in numerous small screen roles. More notably, she recently appeared as Jade in the indie hit Inherent Vice . She's definitely making an impression, and we cannot wait to see what else she does in the future.

It goes without saying that we couldn’t be much more excited for Downsizing . The film has assembled an all-star cast, and yet we really don’t know much about it. We will just have to wait for more details till the movie hits theaters in late 2017.

In the build-up to the Academy Awards, all eyes seem to be on Leonardo DiCaprio. His performance in

The Revenant seems to be the one to beat. Much of the reason for all the talk is centered around the apparently harrowing experience that DiCaprio and the rest of the cast and crew went through in order to make the film. Well, Matt Damon would like to point out that he’s nominated for the same award, and he earned it while staying warm. Damon was introducing Ridley Scott, his director on The Martian , at the Director’s Guild Awards on Saturday night and felt obligated to point out that it is possible to make great movies without risking life and limb.

The Martian , like The Revenant , is also a movie about a lone man trying to survive amidst harsh conditions, but when filming ended for Damon, the harsh conditions did as well. It turns out you can actually be quite comfortable, and you don’t have to eat raw liver.
Every night at 6 o'clock, the horn blew and Ridley [Scott] and I went to dinner. And that's how you make a movie, and we finished the film really early and we saved 2 million bucks. And Leo – we weren’t cold at all. I’m just sayin’. There’s another way to do it.
Matt Damon’s comments were spoken with his tongue planted firmly in his cheek as he was simply having a bit of fun at the expense of his former co-star. Both Leonardo DiCaprio and The Revenant director Alejandro González Iñárrituwere in attendance at the awards show and, according to Vanity Fair, both laughed along with Damon at the joke. It’s not the first time they’ve heard it.

The Revenant has become as famous for the experience of making the movie as it has for the quality of the film itself. According to all reports the shoot took much longer and was much more expensive than originally planned. It cost about double what The Martian did, and took about twice as long as well. The shoot was so brutal that the movie was even attacked for unsafe working conditions. While it’s true that all that work did eventually lead to a quality movie, we can’t help but agree a little bit with Matt Damon, it’s not exactly necessary to go to such lengths. Having said that, The Revenant has had a much stronger awards season, so maybe all the hard work did pay off.

We’ll see who has the last laugh when Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio go up against each other for the Academy Award for Best Actor later this month.

There was once an era in which we as a collective society looked up to science, in particular the field of traveling through outer space. With technology growing by leaps and bounds, and the space race in full effect, the 50’s and 60’s were the height of the "Space Age" – where going to the Moon was the ultimate achievement. But, to paraphrase Matthew McConaughey in Interstellar , we stopped looking at the stars, and suddenly space travel fell by the wayside. At least we did, until now. In an era where astrophysicists are popular again, and spacefaring is coming back to the forefront, The Martian is not only the best picture of 2015’s race, it’s also the most important.

With its' massive success, both with Andy Weir’s original novel and the Ridley Scott directed film, The Martian is a story that uses hard science fiction to tell a story of survival on a foreign planet. Matt Damon’s Mark Watneydoesn’t have fancy laser guns or warp drives to go from one end of the universe to the other in a heartbeat. He and his ARES-III crewmates, led by Jessica Chastain’s Commander Lewis, live a life of pressure suits, carefully sealed airlocks, and carefully planned trips to and from Mars with launch windows maximized for minimal travel time. With Chastain leading the crew of the ARES-III back home, and Jeff Daniels holding things down on Earth, an expert ensemble navigates the pitfalls and disasters to get their astronaut home.

And yet, with all of that scientific knowledge on display, The Martian delivers it in such a way that you’d barely notice that this film is ultimately a science teacher’s dream come true. Mark Watney’s journey of perseverance, while laced with jokes and rants about disco, is ultimately a showcase for the scientific method. Sure, the film boasts some prime space action and excitement, with Drew Goddard’s snappy dialogue helping us identify with the characters we’re watching, but the expert film-making is the candy coating to one key factor: its characters are the some of the best role models out there.



The heroes of The Martian aren't athletes, superheroes, or bloodthirsty savages - they're geniuses with senses of humor.They analyze problems, sweat the small details that could derail everything, and ultimately save the day because they worked out every problem that came their way. But at the same time, the various professionals on display in The Martian aren’t cold, calculated figures. They’re actual people that have personalities and know that to work together, as opposed to for their own personal gain. If anything, the only adversaries they have pitted against them are time and the elements, which can both be managed through their collective brain power.

Which brings us to the largest reason why The Martian is the most important film of 2016’s best picture race: it’s bound to educate the future geniuses that are just grasping the concept of science right now. The children of today's era can look up to the characters in The Martian , and there is a diverse enough group that both boys and girls from a spectrum of ethnicities can take one character and identify with them.  With Andy Weir’s book being edited into a more learning environment friendly edition that can be taught, Ridley Scott’s film will serve as a great supplement to said book. Soon, young minds will be able to learn about the ARES-III mission, how it went wrong, and the kind of logical intelligence it requires to work through such setbacks.

The Martian is a throwback to those halcyon days of the space program, where knowledge was daring and sexy as it fascinated the general public. It is the most important film of the whole best picture pack, and quite possibly all of 2015’s releases for that matter, because it brings hard science back to the forefront of popular culture, making itself an important tool in rebooting the love of science in the world.  In an era teetering on the edge of a resurgence in that school of thinking, we need something to inspire today’s students to want to become tomorrow’s steely eyed missile men and women. The future is waiting, and The Martian is the ticket to get us there.

Bryan Singer's Superman Sequel Would Have Been Called Man Of Steel, Featured Darkseid

Like Ang Lee’s Hulk , Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns was, on its face, commercial suicide.

was, on its face, commercial suicide. Giving a sacred, cut-and-dried hero to a director who would explore new, unheard-of depths that weren’t accepted canon is probably doable IF they aren’t given a bottomless budget. But Singer, like Lee before him, got carte blanche to take a different tract, resulting in a film low on conventional spectacle and heroism, and high on ruminations of loneliness, godliness, and legacies. It’s without question the saddest of contemporary superhero pictures, an elegiac tale of a man without a world, seeking and failing to become part of ours.

When the extravagantly-expensive Superman Returns stalled out slightly under $400 million worldwide, Warner Bros. remained contractually committed to a sequel with Singer. However, that light soon dimmed, and ultimately they opted to move along with a newer incarnation, one that became, a film that ultimately registered slightly higher attendance numbers than Superman Returns , goosed further by inflation, 3D prices, and a more lucrative worldwide marketplace. Singer’s been singing, via Comic Book Movie,to Empire Magazine lately, on the eve of, and he held court on the film’s divisive reception.
"Half of that I understand and half of it I never will. It was a movie made for a certain kind of audience. Perhaps more of a female audience. It wasn't what it needed to be, I guess. I think I could lop the first quarter off and start the movie a bit more aggressively and maybe find a way to start the movie with the jet disaster sequence or something. I could have grabbed the audience a little more quickly. I don't know what would have helped. Probably nothing. If I could go again, I would do an origin. I would reboot it."
If we’re to play armchair quarterback (it’s the offseason, we can quarterback anytime we damn well please), there are certainly edits that can be made to make Superman Returns a bit more palatable. Singer’s idea of chopping off that beginning and having Supes arrive at that plane crash would be startling, and a great way to kickstart the action. Of course, one man’s slow is another man’s methodical, and the opening passages of that picture are nothing if not meticulously directed. Compare that to 2006’s other superhero picture, X-Men: The Last Stand , with it’s slapped-together action sequences and free-for-all amongst third-tier characters. When Brandon Routh’s Superman takes to the skies, his cape whistles a symphony in the wind. Compare that to the wirework hell that is The Last Stand , with characters physically being thrown about the screen as if they were in a Universal stage show.

Singer apparently had these criticisms in mind when developing the sequel that wasn’t to be, even going as far as calling it Man of Steel (suck on that, Zack Snyder!) and banking on a pretty formidable foe: Darkseid. "I think Darkseid was going to be the villain," Singer says, "It was pretty world-destroying, actually." Darkseid, a galactic baddie that’s been rumoredto be a Justice League antagonist for quite awhile, would have been necessarily escalation after Superman’s commercially-questionable tango with Kevin Spacey’s bumbling Lex Luthor. But it just wasn’t to be, and, reading between the lines, Singer takes some of the blame:
"I ended up having the opportunity to go and make Valkyrie, and I think the studio lost interest at that point. I can't say it was all the studio's fault and I can't say it was all my fault. It just fizzled out."
It’s pretty hard to be enthusiastic about making a movie for a studio when they themselves don’t really want to make the movie, so Singer’s newfound enthusiasm for collaborating with Tom Cruise does make sense. Though there is an alternate reality somewhere where Warner Bros. bit the bullet and went ahead with Brandon Routh in Man Of Steel , Singer never went back to X-Men , and Zack Snyder is working at an Orange Julius. Imagine that.

No One Has Ever Criticized Superman Returns In Front Of Brandon Routh

While DC Comics and Warner Bros. have moved on with their big screen interpretation of the Man of Steel, there are pockets of fans who are still complaining about the first time the character got rebooted: Bryan Singer’s 2006 film Superman Returns . While the movie received largely positive reviews and made nearly $400 million at the global box office, there are still many who continue to complain about the fact that the titular hero never throws a punch or Lex Luthor’s underwhelming evil plot. Still, though, even after nearly a decade no fan has actually ever tried to confront star Brandon Routh about it face-to-face.

Phoning in as a guest on The DJ Tanner Showto promote his appearance in the upcoming third season of, Routh revealed during the interview that he has yet to find anyone who will actually complain about Superman Returns to his face. Asked by the hosts how he deals with negative responses from some of the more rabid Superman fans, the actor bluntly explained that "nobody has had the balls" to actually rage about the movie in his presence.

But don’t take that to mean that Routh has never actually heard any critiques about his performance in Superman Returns . As he explained on the show,
" If they have those feelings or misgivings they vent them on the internet, which I have definitely read over the years. I don’t shy away from that. I like to hear what people really think. And there’s truth to everything that people say negatively. They have their own opinions about what they wanted to see."
Going further, he added that there’s simply no way that they can appease absolutely everybody, but that he knows that "there’s an overwhelming number of people who enjoyed the film," and that’s who he made the movie for.

In the years since Superman Returns we’ve seen Brandon Routh replaced by Henry Cavillas the new silver screen Man of Tomorrow, but Routh is hardly done playing superhero characters – even those within the DC canon. In the upcoming season of Arrow he will be playing Ray Palmer, perhaps better known as the shrinking costumed vigilante The Atom. The character is expected to play a fairly large role in multiple episodes of the show and will be both a business competitor for Oliver Queen and a possible love interest for Oliver’s close ally, Felicity Smoak. We first got a glimpse at him in the trailer that was unveiled this summer during San Diego Comic-Con.



Arrow Season 3 will be airing its first episode on The CW on October 8th.

New ZEISS iPhone Camera Lenses Unveiled

This month ZEISS and Fellowes Brands have unveiled a new range of iPhone camera lenses they have created to offer users a premium mobile photography accessory in the form of three new high-performance add-on smartphone lenses.

The range was showcased at the recent CES 2016 technology show in Las Vegas and consist of a ZEISS iPhone ExoLens wide-angle lens as well as a macro and telephoto lens all with optics by ZEISS.

The lenses have been designed to be used with a bracket that has been specifically created for the ExoLens range and constructed from machined aluminium. The ExoLens bracket also features a useful standard tripod mount as well as a cold shoe for mounting other accessories if required.

Currently the new ExoLens range is available for the Apple iPhone 6/6s and Apple iPhone 6 Plus/6s Plus but support for more devices is expected to added in the future but no detail on device models or dates have been revealed as yet. Dr. Winfried Scherle, Executive Vice President of Carl Zeiss AG and Head of the ZEISS Consumer Optics business group explains :

The new lenses are characterized by their leading-edge design featuring smooth surfaces made of black anodized aluminum with white labeling. This Mod may drop your FPS. The Seasons 3.0 packages contain textures ranging from Vanilla to 4k. Further optimization will not be done for now as I believe the files are as balanced as they can be between performance and quality at this time. I do not experience any significant FPS drops with the 3.0 versions and hope you will not either. However, if your computer does not like the packages, my apologies. Just try it and see how it works for you.

The textures chosen for the Seasons mod were painstakingly hand selected via one by one comparison between the various source mods. Many textures were then also switched around, mixed & matched, recolored, or otherwise tweaked to better suit the season they are in. The result is a complete overhaul for each season with the attempt to make each one distinct and appropriate to a world in which nature has triumphed over the wasteland.

The eventual goal after the Creation Kit is available is to build an optional mod from these packages that will switch seasons automatically. For now, please use only ONLY season at a time and switch seasons as you like. They are ONLY Textures/Meshes and should not hurt your game to install/uninstall at any time. Will Forte Playing A Pot Dealer In Key And Peele's Keanu

The upcoming film Keanu , showcasing comedy duo Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, has just added a major comedic force to the growing ranks of its cast.

, showcasing comedy duo Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, has just added a major comedic force to the growing ranks of its cast. It is being reported that Will Forte will hop on board the caper comedy as an eccentric, unconventional entrepreneur of sorts.

According to a scoop from The Hollywood Reporter, Forte will be cast in next year’s Keanu as an unnamed character described as a low-level pot dealer with a fixation on black culture. The character played by Peele will apparently be the only black person he knows. It’s a quixotic role that seems to carry a vibe similar to Jamie Kennedy's in Malibu’s Most Wanted .

Yet, for all the absurdity of the description of Forte’s character, it falls in step with the premise of the film, which will be directed by Peter Atencio. Key and Peelewill play best friends who plan to infiltrate the gang of a dangerous drug kingpin played by rapper Method Man. In order to accomplish this ill-advised venture, they go undercover as drug-dealing gangsters amongst the murderous narcotics-selling empire. Why, might you ask, are they doing this? Well, it’s not to bring down a parasitic, evil operation for the entreaty of justice, but rather to rescue their stolen kitty cat.

For Forte, the role, despite its potential ludicrousness, represents an increasingly rising stock for the former 10-year SNL player. His first moment atop a marquee, 2010’s MacGruber , may not have been ideal for him or its director, Jorma Taccone, but Forte has rebounded as of late. Besides turning some heads with a dramatic performance in 2013’s Nebraska , he’s been making waves this year with his Fox television vehicle, The Last Man on Earth . Plus, Forte will also deliver some apparently controversial linesin Adam Sandler’s embattled Netflix-exclusive movie, The Ridiculous Six .

The curious title, Keanu , refers to the name of the film’s finagled feline. However, the equally-obvious evocation of actor Keanu Reeves might also contain an additional layer fitting into the film’s described premise. Reeves’ 2014 film, John Wick , also involved a character who recklessly throws himself into the face of mortal danger against evil gangsters motivated by the eccentric reason of avenging a pet puppy. The "Keanu" reference could simply be highlighting the loose John Wick parallel.

Regardless, Keanu will represent a big moment for Key and Peele, as it will be the first feature film to directly showcase the signature partnership they established as cast members of MADtv and on their popular Key and Peele sketch show on Comedy Central. The layout of the film seems to promise loads of laughs as the out-of-their-depths duo find themselves tangling with seriously dangerous, potentially deranged degenerates. They will also be joined by Gabrielle Union, who will play the wife of Key’s character. Adding Will Forte to the mix will only liven up the laughs.

Keanu looks to possibly reap stealthy, Liam Neeson-esque retribution in reaction to an egregious cat-napping when it hits theaters on April 22, 2016.

Fallout 4 Seasons Mod Adds Another Dimension To Already Awesome Game (video)

Gamers enjoying playing the new Fallout 4 game may be interested in a new mod called the Fallout 4 Seasons Mod, that has been created by the Fallout 4 modelling community that once installed as different seasons to the game.

Its creator RusalkaC has upload the mod to the Nexus Mods website for your enjoyment and writes :

This Mod may drop your FPS. The Seasons 3.0 packages contain textures ranging from Vanilla to 4k. Further optimization will not be done for now as I believe the files are as balanced as they can be between performance and quality at this time. I do not experience any significant FPS drops with the 3.0 versions and hope you will not either. However, if your computer does not like the packages, my apologies. Just try it and see how it works for you.

The textures chosen for the Seasons mod were painstakingly hand selected via one by one comparison between the various source mods. Many textures were then also switched around, mixed & matched, recolored, or otherwise tweaked to better suit the season they are in. The result is a complete overhaul for each season with the attempt to make each one distinct and appropriate to a world in which nature has triumphed over the wasteland.

The eventual goal after the Creation Kit is available is to build an optional mod from these packages that will switch seasons automatically. For now, please use only ONLY season at a time and switch seasons as you like. They are ONLY Textures/Meshes and should not hurt your game to install/uninstall at any time. (But please see installation section below about a NMM bug you might experience in uninstalling!)

Windows 95 Installed On Nintendo 3DS Handheld (video)

GBATemp user Shutterbug2000 has this week released a video demonstrating his ability to load Microsoft’s ancient Windows 95 operating system onto a new Nintendo 3DS handheld gaming console.

Key And Peele's Kitten Comedy Keanu Has The Perfect Cameo

When you name your movie Keanu you’re setting a certain level of expectation.

While the movie with that title is not about the star of The Matrix , but rather a pet cat that has been named for him, we fully expect that Keanu will be full of jokes about the man whose film career is as unique as his name. But what does Keanu Reevesthink of the movie appropriating his name? He’s apparently ok with it, as he’ll be appearing in the film in some capacity.

You knew at some point somebody was going to ask Keanu Reeves what he thought about Keanu , the new film by the brilliant comedy duo of Key and Peele. IGNgot to ask the question, but the answer was even more surprising than we thought it would be. Reeves admitted that he actually contributed to the movie himself.
I recently did a voiceover for the project – it’s about a cat, though it’s actually not about the cat. There’s a cat named Keanu in it, and so I did a little bit for that.
It’s the most obvious cameo in the world, of course. The name Keanu is a unique one that pretty much reminds the entire world of just this one man. Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele knew this when they decided they would name their pet cat, who is the lynchpin of their film, after the John Wick actor.

Of course, now the question is, how does Keanu Reeves fit into the film? He’s only providing voiceover, which narrows down the options significantly. The obvious choice is that he’ll actually be voicing his namesake cat in one way or another. While the trailerhasn’t given us any impression that the kitten will "speak" we could see Keanu (the kitten) narrating the film with possibly a bit of opening and closing voiceover. If the cat has a voice, there’s no question that he sounds like Keanu Reeves, right?


Keanu follows two friends who go on a quest to rescue their missing cat who ends up being taken in by gangsters after a break-in. It’s the feature film debut for the comedy duo Key and Peelewho recently wrapped up their Comedy Central sketch comedy show. A work-in-progress version of the film was shown over the weekend at SXSWand based on our report the movie is looking hilarious.

Key And Peele Slay SXSW With Incredibly Funny Kitten Comedy Keanu

Their serieswas one of the most consistently hilarious sketch shows we’ve seen, with both the writing and performances always on-point and fantastic. Now they’ve taken their game to the film world with the new movie Keanu , and while not everyone can make a successful leap from seven-minute bits to feature-length material, that’s exactly what Key and Peele have accomplished – starring in a movie that’s equal parts ridiculous, adorable, and laugh-out-loud funny.

Last night, a very special treat was delivered to the on-going SXSW Film Festivalin Austin, Texas, as a work-in-progress cut ofwas given its world premiere at the Paramount Theater. Directed by Peter Atencio and written by Jordan Peele and Alex Rubens, the film centers on two best friends: the up-tight family man Clarence (Keegan-Michael Key), whose wife and kid are away for the weekend; and Rell (Peele), a lazy pothead who finds his heart on the mend after a breakup thanks to the mysterious arrival of a ridiculously adorable kitten on his doorstep. Naming the tiny animal Keanu, Rell legitimately starts to emotionally heal… but he immediately begins to unravel again when he comes home one day to discover that his house has been robbed and his pet has been kidnapped. Unable to just let it go, Rell and Clarence begin an investigation into who took the tiny kitten, but find themselves in completely over their heads when they discover the only way to get Keanu back is to infiltrate a dangerous street gang.

From a macro perspective,does rest heavily on one major comedic conceit – which is that Rell and Clarence are as non-gangster as two guys can get and completely out of their depth – but what makes the film really work is that it never feels repetitive or puffed up. This is mostly because the film is constantly escalating the stakes and the extremity of the situations that the two friends find themselves in – at first just learning to casually talk street while hanging at a strip club, but soon finding themselves dealing drugs and in the middle of massive shootouts. The tighter the corner that the duo finds themselves in, the better Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele work, forced to endlessly squirm and lie, and in the process produce comedic gold – be it lying about a minivan being the best low-key ride for criminal activity or singer/songwriter George Michael actually being a light-skinned OG.

The film also reinforces the old W.C. Fields adage about actors working with animals or children. Because the only thing more entertaining to watch in Keanu than Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele is its titular, scene-stealing kitten. Not only is the kitten so insanely adorable that you can’t help but coo every time he is on screen (not even remotely an exaggeration), but there is an incredible amount of surprising comedic mileage that simply comes from watching him awkwardly leap and dash across a room in slow motion as bullets fly around a room. You’ve never seen anything like it, and it’s truly wonderful.

Warner Bros. is set to haveout in theaters fairly soon – set for release on April 29th– and the SXSWscreening of the work-in-progress version most definitely did exactly what it was supposed to do: build hype. The film will inevitably be considered one of the best comedies of 2016, and if it wasn’t on your radar already, it definitely should be now.

Awesome Line Wobbler Arduino Game Created Using Doorstop (video)

An industrious developer named Robin Baumgarten has created a new game called Line Wobbler made using the Arduino platform and a doorstop together with an LED strip.

The game was created during a 48-hour game jam and offers users a hard to master dungeon crawl game powered by an Arduino Uno development board.

The game was inspired by a YouTube video during which a cat interacts with a flexible doorstop. Watch the video below to learn more about the construction of the Arduino Line Wobbler game.

Using a spring, an accelerometer and a rigid surface, the Wobble controller is a tactile and surprisingly precise joystick with a unique ‘wobble’ action (pull it back and let go to make it oscillate back and forth rapidly). It is this wobble action that is core to the experience and the game we have created for it. Initially made out of a shoe-tree, I’m now using door-stopper springs, since they’re easier to use.

Game Of Thrones Is Bringing Back A Character We Haven't Seen In A Long Time

Now, the show will be bringing back one of the few memorable characters to have actually survived his first stint on HBO's fantasy drama. Season 6 will feature the return of Paul Kaye in the role of red priest Thoros of Myr.

The news of the big return came via Paul Kaye’s agency. His reprisal of the role of Thoros in Season 6 will mark the first time that he’s appeared in the flesh on Game of Thrones since Season 3. Thoros was last seen wandering the Riverlands of Westeros with the Brotherhood Without Banners.

His powers of resurrection as a red priest came in handy when he was able to bring back the slain Beric Dondarrion, but he won himself a place on Arya’s kill list when he sold her pal Gendry to Melisandre. Arya ended up in the clutches of the Hound shortly thereafter, so Thoros’ story never came to a satisfactory conclusion back in Season 3. There is likely more story to tell regarding Thoros and the Brotherhood, and following up on that arc will likely be a good thing in Season 6.

Adding Thoros to Season 6 has some intriguing potential. Most of the action in Season 5 took place in areas beyond the Riverlands; Thoros showing up again either means that some of the regulars will pass through again or Thoros has moved on to some fresh stomping grounds. Given how many people have been dying lately, the red priest may be able to change the rules of the game in a very big way. Plenty of us have been more concerned with what Melisandremay be able to do with her powers up in the North; perhaps Thoros will have a part to play in the name of the Lord of the Light in the south?



Book spoilers are in this paragraph . The plot of the Brotherhood Without Banners is one that is significantly different on the show than in the books, and Thoros’ big book resurrectionwith Lady Stoneheart is one that hasn’t happened onscreen. Season 6 could well see Thoros dealing with the repercussions of resurrection in a way that neither readers nor viewers predicted.

Resurrections aside, I’m personally hoping that Thoros' return will mean another look at what’s going on in the Riverlands. I’m still waiting on somebody getting an epic revenge on the Freys, and the Red Wedding seems like just the sort of tragedy that the Brotherhood would want to make right.

Season 6 of Game of Thrones will premiereon April 24 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO. Like many makers, a mame arcade machine has been on my list of things to build for quite a while. Recently though I had the pleasure of catching up with the Pimoroni guys and got to check out their PiCade arcade machine they launched on Kickstarter a few months back.

Needless to say, playing around with the PiCade made my urge to build an arcade machine bubble back to the surface. I toyed with just buying one of the PiCade kits, which really are exceptional, but that’s not really my style as I tend to like to hack / re-purpose old technology, so instead I decided to modify an old 80’s desktop computer game instead.

Terminator Genisys Post-Credits Scene: What Happens, And What It Means

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains some absolutely massive spoilers for Terminator: Genisys .

. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, and don’t wish for the ending to be ruined, you may want to click away to another one of our wonderful articles.

Just before the credits roll on, it looks like everything is just peachy. Both Emilia Clarke’s Sarah Connor and Jai Courtney’s Kyle Reese manage to survive the final battle against the movie’s titular computer network, and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Pops” even gets a liquid metal upgrade. But those who wait around for the scene after the credits know that not all is really well in this new timeline, as Genisys is actually still alive.

Admittedly the scene is very quick – lasting only about 10 seconds – but it makes an impact, and makes sure that the audience knows that this story isn’t over just yet. The scene begins with a ball that is filled with red light and glowing – but then we see that it’s not alone. It turns out that Genisys – represented by a blue light in the shape of a child – has not been destroyed, and that the future of the robot uprising is still a very real thing.

This past weekend I had the opportunityto talk withdirector Alan Taylorabout his new movie, and it was at the close of our conversation that I brought up the post-credits sequence – seeking his inside knowledge of what it means for the future of the franchise. Noting that the scene was always part of the script from when he became involved, the filmmaker’s explanation of what it means is pretty cut and dry:
It was always there as a kind of gateway - to further developments… It’s precisely a kind of, ‘it’s not over yet’ moment. On the one hand, it’s one of the things that points to there being further chapters. On the other hand, this is a kind of franchise where I don’t think anybody really believes that you’re going to end up neatly or happily. So, when our heroes drives off into the sunset and we think, well that went well. There’s still going to be a nagging feeling that wait, it’s not that easy.
The director also revealed to me that the scene wasn’t always going to be a post-credits stinger. At times points through the post-production process it was actually put into the movie. As the movie went through test screenings, it was determined that the best place for that moment was at the very end of the last reel.

When Terminator: Genisys was announced in 2013, it was noted that the movie is going to be the first in a new trilogy of films. It’s for this reason that the movie doesn’t have a firm conclusion and feature the ultimate death of Genisys, and leaves so many unanswered questions. In my interview, however, Alan Taylor confirmed that there is a larger plan for the future of the series, filled with all the big answers. Discussing the paradox that drives the entire series (in order for John to be born, Kyle has to be sent back in time, and that doesn’t happen until the robot uprising), Taylor explained,
There is, in fact, a final resolution to that paradox that I know Skydance has in mind, and it will be wonderful if they get a chance to bring that out in further, in later chapters. But the [post-credits scene] is pointing to later chapters, and at least saying, ‘It’s not that simple.’

May be interested in a new 3D printed version of the Pip-Boy 3000 Mark IV from Fallout 4 that has been created and made available to download, so you can create your very own, thanks to Yvo de Haas.

The creator of the 3D printable files explains a little more about the The Pip-Boy 3000 Mark IV that can be powered by a smartphone. The Pip-Boy 3000 Mark IV Phone edition is the version that will be most useful for most people. It can hold (as the name suggests) a phone that is within a certain size range. It is simply a case of printing it to have a usable Pip-Boy. To access the phone, 2 knobs near the tape player allow the front to come off. No tools are required to place and remove the phone (though it still take a half a minute or so).

To make room for the phone, some of the buttons have been merged with the body of the Pip-Boy. It does have a latch mechanism and a tape player. The lights on the Pip-Boy can be 3D printed in clear plastic, and can be lit using colored LEDS. The gauges however cannot be lit, there simply isn’t enough room to fit lighting with the phone in the way.

Justice League: How J.K. Simmons Is Approaching Playing Commissioner Gordon

Though the DC Expanded Universe has gotten off to a rocky start thanks the reception to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice , Warner Bros has no plans to slow down.

The studio is beginning production on its mega superhero crossover Justice League Part One and preparing for the release of solo films like, Aquaman and The Flash . One of the many characters making their debut in Justice League is Commissioner Gordon, played by J.K. Simmons. With so many iconic heroes making their first jump to the big screen, Simmons has opened up about how he plans to prepare for the role of one of Batman’s greatest allies.

During an interview with Collider, J.K. Simmons addressed his feeling on the character of Commissioner Gordon and what source material he’s going to look at to learn about the character. Well, to read the comics, yes, absolutely. I’m still a couple of months out from doing that and I have two other films before then, so I haven’t gotten started on that. Obviously, a lot of really wonderful actors have played that character previously, and most of them I saw at the time the movies came out, never imagining that I would be doing the same thing. So, I can’t say that I don’t have some impression of that character in my head that’s based on what I saw, but I’m not planning on going back and watching any of the other films. I’m just planning on learning as much as I can about him through the comics and getting my feet wet in the first movie, and then hopefully continuing on from there.
You can’t go wrong with the comics, which is pretty much the undisputed source material for these sort of things. Looking at how other actors have played the character wouldn’t be very helpful. Each film uses their own version for the characters, so there are a lot of differences in how each Gordon behaves. The Commissioner Gordon in Batman Forever is vastly different than the one played by Gary Oldmanin The Dark Knight , or the one on Gotham with Ben McKenzie. It makes more sense that J.K. Simmons develop his own view of the character that would fit in with the new Zack Snyder universe.

This a pretty level headed approach, and it's not the first time J.K. Simmons has played a famous comic book character; he portrayed J. Jonah Jameson in the Sam Raini Spider-Man trilogy. Simmons basically transformed into the Daily Bugle editor and became a fan favorite character of those films. He did such a good job that there are people who want him to play the character again for the new rebooted Marvel Sony produced Spider-Man films that will star Tom Holland. Let's hope he can bring that same level of skill to Gordon.

In terms of comics to draw inspiration from, you can never go wrong with Batman: Year One . It tells the story of both Bruce Wayne’s first year as Batman and Gordon’s first year in Gotham City and dealing with a corrupt police force. Conversely, there’s The Dark Knight Rises – which is the main inspiration for Ben Affleck’s Batman- and it’s older, more grizzled take on the Commissioner.

You’ll be able to see J.K. Simmons as Commisioner Gordon in Justice League Part One , which is scheduled to hit theaters November 17, 2017.
