the blue. He got it from the story character, the Pied Piper of Hamelin, a mysterious individual who arrived in a town that was being overrun by rats. He offered to guide the vermin out of town using his special flute for a price, and the townsfolk agreed. The Piper subsequently used his flute’s hypnotic power to lure the rats into the river, but when the mayor didn’t pay him as promised, the Piper controlled the town’s children and lured them away as well. Such a story for the big screen would be too scary for children and even sketchy for a horror movie, so Pied Piper should be reimagined as a mischievous, but good character, for a kid’s movie. BQ Ubuntu Tablet Confirmed, Official Unveiling Next Month At MWC 2016

Hardware manufacturer BQ has this week confirmed they are developing a new Ubuntu tablet that will be showcased during next month’s Mobile World Congress 2016 and will feature the convergence and will take the form of the new BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition.

BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu tablet

The 10 inch Linux tablet is powered by a 64-bit ARM processor supported by 2GB of RAM and offers users a high-resolution screen as well as allowing users to run traditional desktop software such as LibreOffice and photo editing software GIMP to name a few.

Ubuntu Tablet

The Ubuntu website explains more about convergence.

The real test for a smartphone which can double up as a PC is to give users the same experience from their smartphone as they get from their primary PC. This is our starting point for real smartphone convergence – to deliver an Ubuntu PC experience that embodies everything already familiar to the millions of Ubuntu desktop PC users worldwide. Quite simply, this means everything that a user expects from a PC experience has to be available from their smartphone .

Our journey towards OS convergence first begins with Unity 8, Ubuntu’s User Interface and display framework, envisioned to run on all Ubuntu devices with the same underlying codebase, supporting a common infrastructure for application and service development. The goal for Unity 8 is to run as the primary display on any type of Ubuntu smart product.

BQ is hoping to officially launch the BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu tablet during April of this year although no pricing has been announced as yet. As soon as more information is made available next month during MWC 2016 we will keep you updated as always.

Dojo and is now available to preorder via Amazon priced at just $99, the development team behind the Dojo explain more about its inspiration and features :

We’re a team of security experts and hackers on a mission to build a security net around the connected home. Currently, no one is leading a charge in defining how we secure this new frontier of technology that’s entering our most private space.

Dojo is a security technology that connects to your network and acts as the essential layer between your smart devices and any threats to your security and privacy. The pebble is free to move about your home and glows when there is activity that needs to be addressed in the app, and is designed so it doesn’t need to be yet another thing you line up next to your TV.

Dojo actually learns. It gets to know devices and finds patterns in their behavior that define their level of security and common vulnerabilities. It’s a sophisticated defense system that utilizes pattern recognition to learn to detect threats. Without even having to look at the data or knowing what’s attacking, Dojo can block them. It listens to patterns, not your data.

Dojo keeps in touch via a simple chat app, and only gets in touch when there’s something afoot. Most importantly, you are in control. Dojo makes sure you’re aware of any issues before they affect your privacy or security. In just one tap, you decide.

Ant-Man Could Lead To A Hank Pym Prequel

Ant-Man Could Lead To A Hank Pym Prequel

Paul Rudd will soon be suiting up and shrinking down for his Marvel debut in Ant-Man as thief-turned-hero Scott Lang.

as thief-turned-hero Scott Lang. However, questions have arisen regarding the role of Lang’s mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (played by Michael Douglas), who developed the film’s shrinkable heroic technology. With Pym being the comic book canon’s original Ant-Man, a hint has been dropped that we could see a Pym-centric prequel.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Ant-Man director Peyton Reed discusses the idea of tackling follow-up films. While he by no means confirms anything, he does express his willingness to tackle a prospective prequel project following the exploits of a younger Hank Pym and the development of his signature protean equipment. According to Reed:
Listen, if we were lucky enough to be able to do a sequel or even a prequel, I'd be way into it. I've really fallen in love with these characters. I was always in love with the characters in the comic book world but there's a lot of story to tell with Hank Pym.
Clearly, Reed is taking cues from Marvel Studio’s big brass like Kevin Feigein not wanting to count their Ant-Man chickens before they hatch. Like any venture from the studio that serves to chart both a canonical and thematic course for the established cinematic universe like Thor in 2011 or Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, this film is a rather risky offering from a genre perspective. Indeed, the apparent tonal eccentricity of Ant-Man , mixing serious themes with tongue-in-cheek humor, seemed to be a difficult dynamic to master and even resulted in a creative shake-up that saw Edgar Wright vacate the director’s chair after being attached for the better part of a decade. Thus, the sequel/prequel talk is understandably still very much loose.

However, in what could be interpreted as a positive sign, Reed seems to be satisfied with the project from a personal standpoint. Utilizing the Scott Lang version of Ant-Man, relegating the original in Hank Pym to the role as an aged mentor, the script, collectively constructed over the years by names such as Adam McKay and star, Paul Rudd, himself, manages to showcase its heart as a redemption tale for the larcenous louse, Lang with an ailing young daughter, who desperately wants to the right thing. His call to greatness comes at the behest of Michael Douglas’Pym, who provides him the means to implement his seedy skills for a calling that is actually righteous. Yet, if Lang’s story resonates enough with movie-going audiences, then the curiosity for Pym’s story will surely be potent enough to warrant the prequel.

Should Marvel get around to making the Pym-centric prequel, it’s possible that we could be in for a dramatic piece inspired by one of Marvel’s more bizarre heroes. Over the years, Marvel has depicted Pym as basically good man who also happens to be unstable mentally, manifesting multiple personalities that, coupled with his shrinking/growth abilities has wreaked plenty of havoc. Plus, the tumultuous marriage to Janet Van Dyne, aka The Wasp, also well-documented in the source material, would be an especially powerful angle considering that their daughter, Hope Van Dyne is a major player in Ant-Man , played by Evangeline Lilly.

While the prequel prospects are still very much up in the air, Marvel will look to make another new cinematic comic book A-lister when Ant-Man stealthily shrinks its way to theaters on July 17.

A Big Change Is Finally Going To Be Made To Oliver Queen

A Big Change Is Finally Going To Be Made To Oliver Queen

Oliver Queen has come so far over the last few years.

Oliver Queen has come so far over the last few years. Between taking on a team of fellow vigilantes, adopting the persona of Green Arrow, and seriously dialing back his penchant for murder, The CW’s resident archer has matured a lot since his neck-snapping days as The Hood on Season 1 of Arrow . Despite all of that progress, there are still certain aspects of the iconic Oliver Queen that audiences have long clamored for. Ask and you shall receive, comic book fans; it looks like Stephen Amell’s green clad DC superhero is going to lose an appendage while gaining some facial hair and another son (sort of) in the near future.

Amell just posted a video to his Facebookpage that shed some light as to how his character will look when his future-self appears on Legends of Tomorrow :
I'm going to be appearing on episode 106 of Legends with The Goatee, one arm, and we’re gonna meet Connor Hawke. The lesson is always ‘Never say never.'
It had long been rumored that Oliver would eventually get his goatee at some point, but we can now say with absolute certainty that it’s going to happen. Just not on his own show. The character has slowly grown into his comic book persona as seasons of Arrow have gone by, and the inclusion of such glorious facial hair means that sometime in the future he will have fully embraced it. Amell previously denied all rumorsthat the goatee would ever appear on Arrow , so introducing it on Legends seems like a way for him to keep his word while still giving fans what they want.

The fact that he will only be sporting one arm should get anyone who knows anything about the greater DC mythos incredibly excited. Oliver Queen famously only had one arm during the legendary Frank Miller Batman storyline The Dark Knight Returns . During this arc, it’s heavily implied that Superman forcefully amputated the appendage when Oliver wouldn’t quietly retire from superheroics. This doesn’t inherently mean that any aspects of The Dark Knight Returns will find their way into that particular episode of Legends of Tomorrow , but it adds to the growing number of Easter eggsthat seem to indicate that the Man of Steel and The Dark Knightindeed inhabit the Arrow -verse.

Whether or not Oliver will still be operating as Green Arrow when the Legends make their way to the future remains to be seen as well. The inclusion of Connor Hawke on the show seems to point to a new iteration of the hero taking the mantle. The casting for Connor has yet to be revealed, although the previous announcementstated that producers were looking for a black or biracial actor for the part. That means that his son William, whatever happened to him in the meantime, apparently wasn't looking to pick up the family trade of vigilantism. Maybe he's really into running for mayor.

Only time will tell what other aspects of DC lore make their way into Legends of Tomorrow . One thing we have to remember: last season on The Flash , the Reverse-Flash told Oliver that he lives to be 86 years old, so start taking bets on how old Mr. Queen will be when he appears on Legends of Tomorrow .

Invisible, Inc Launches On PlayStation 4 (video)

Invisible, Inc Launches On PlayStation 4 (video)

PlayStation 4 gamers that have been patiently waiting for the launch of the Invisible, Inc tactical espionage game to arrive on Sony’s next-generation games console, will be pleased to know that Corey Rollins Community Manager at Klei Entertainment the developers of the game, took to the official PlayStation blog yesterday to announce its launch on the PS4 console.

Invisible, Inc

Invisible, Inc launched last year via the Steam games network and is also available to play on PC, Mac and Linux and offers players with a a turn-based tactics, stealth video game incorporating elements of “roguelike” gameplay.

Rollins explains more about what you can expect from the PlayStation 4 version:

For those unfamiliar, Invisible, Inc. is about leading your team of elite spies to infiltrate the world’s most secure complexes. As the Operator, your job is to pick targets of opportunity, steal from the corporations, and upgrade your agents and programs in order to prepare for the final standoff. The world is completely different every time thanks to procedural generation, and the corporations are constantly adjusting to topple your plans.

Out of all the features Invisible, Inc. offers, the most interesting to many will be the fact that it’s procedurally generated. Most stealth games are incredibly refined with every guard, alarm, and item meticulously hand placed. This often creates a wonderful, balanced, refined stealth experience, but once you play through the game (or even a certain level) you’ll never be able to play it again for the first time. You know where the guards will be, how many there are, or where the best loot is, for example.

We decided to challenge ourselves to build a system where each level and room feels hand crafted, but gives you a new experience every time you play so that information truly becomes power. The procedural generation allows the game to renew itself every time, and we think that’s incredibly powerful in a stealth game.

As Invisible, Inc.’s design is concentrated around replayability, we also filled out the DLC with more variety of enemies and new events that can show up at any point in the campaign. But we also noted that a lot more people than we expected were playing the endless campaign and not finding the late days as challenging as they could be. A new set of enemy units were created to fill in the gap and a new flavor of enemy “Daemon” programs were created to increase the difficulty gradually, making deep endless runs the challenge they were meant to be.

Weekend Box Office: The Jungle Book Swings To Number One With More Than The Bare Necessities

Weekend Box Office: The Jungle Book Swings To Number One With More Than The Bare Necessities

The Jungle Book delivered the third opening of 2016 above $100 million this weekend, and it's only mid-April!

delivered the third opening of 2016 above $100 million this weekend, and it's only mid-April! Is that important? Yeah, it is.

The first movie to break the triple digit line was the first Raimi Spider-man in 2002. Since then fewer than 40 movies have achieved the feat, with usually only 2 to 3 movies per year hitting that mark.

Last year was a boom year with six movies cracking $100 million on opening weekend, but as usual most of those were summer or holiday debuts. The first came in April with Furious 7 . This year we're in April and there are already three on the books. Looking down the list of 2016 releases, this may be the year that more than ten movies break triple digit debuts.

The Jungle Book only narrowly arrived at that level, hitting number one with a hypnotizing $103 million. That's a nice turn around for director Jon Favreau who stumbled slightly when his post-Iron Man era Cowboys & Aliens failed to deliver at the box office.

Barbershop: The Next Cut claimed a distant second place with $20 million. That doesn't sound too bad until you realize that's a little less than the original Barbershop banked back in 2002 when ticket prices were 60% what they are now. Still, it was enough to push past last weekend's number one The Boss which fell more than 55% to add $10 million to its now $40 million domestic total.

The third newcomer this weekend, Kevin Costner's Criminal , slumped in with $5 million for a number 6 start. That's Costner's lowest wide-release opening since Rumor Has It in 2005 and second lowest since 1997's The Postman two titles anyone would hope a movie could outperform.

New Playstation 4 Codenamed NEO Details Leaked

New Playstation 4 Codenamed NEO Details Leaked

It has been rumoured for some time that Sony is preparing to release a new version of its hugely popular next-generation PlayStation 4 console with the rumoured PlayStation 4 .5 that will provide high performance and tailored for virtual reality applications when compared to the already available PlayStation 4.

PlayStation NEO

This week details about a new PlayStation 4 codenamed NEO have been released by the Giant Bomb website revealing that the new system will retail for around $400 and will provide a faster CPU, faster memory and improved GPU

PlayStation 4 Neo

The details have been leaked thanks to a new document created by Sony for developers that explained all new games must incorporate a ‘Base Mode’ and ‘NEO Mode’. The Giant Bomb website reads :

The NEO will feature a higher clock speed than the original PS4, an improved GPU, and higher bandwidth on the memory. The documents we’ve received note that the HDD in the NEO is the same as that in the original PlayStation 4, but it’s not clear if that means in terms of capacity or connection speed.

Games running in NEO mode will be able to use the hardware upgrades (and an additional 512 MiB in the memory budget) to offer increased and more stable frame rate and higher visual fidelity, at least when those games run at 1080p on HDTVs. The NEO will also support 4K image output, but games themselves are not required to be 4K native.

The NEO will not supplant the current PS4, but will exist alongside of it and use the same user environment. The PS4 and NEO will use the same PSN store, connect to the same online communities, and offer the same user experience, so expect to see the same cross media bar that you’re used to. Players will be able to retain all of the purchases they made on the PS4.

For more information on the new NEO PlayStation jump over to the Giant Bomb website for details via the link below.

Nexus 5 Review: A Geeky Gadgets Original

Nexus 5 Review: A Geeky Gadgets Original

I haven’t written a single review since I started writing for Geeky Gadgets seven and a half months ago.

I haven’t written a single review since I started writing for Geeky Gadgets seven and a half months ago. (Yes, it’s really been seven and a half months.) The reason for that is because I don’t typically buy the latest and greatest gadgets as soon as they come out. But then the Nexus 5 arrived, and now that I’ve gotten it in my hands I figured it’s time to place something in the review category.

This review isn’t going to be super long or in-depth – I’ve admittedly only had the phone for a few days – but hopefully some of you will find it interesting, if not helpful.

First of all, I decided to go with the Nexus 5 due to price. I was tired of paying $85/month for AT&T and found out I could get 100 minutes, unlimited text and unlimited data at T-mobile for only $30/month. The only catch was I had to bring my own phone, so I decided to get what was being herald as the best phone out on the market.

Luckily, I got to spend some time with the Nexus 4 while waiting for my Nexus 5 to arrive, so let me say this: the Nexus 5 is a true upgrade. It’s better in every way possible – except supposedly the camera, but if you follow me on Geeky Gadgets you should know I don’t consider the camera all that important.

The phone is fast, allowing you to switch between apps with just two touches while carrying out a plethora of functions at once. Its voice-to-text and voice recognition is extremely well done, picking up exactly what I say with ease, I just wish it could recognize inflection in order to pick up on punctuation too. Oh, and it would be nice if I could have it play music by voice command too.

The buttons are in the same places, although they stick out a bit more than the Nexus 4 and feel a bit sturdier – less likely to break. I think every phone should be made of the same back material, which feels incredibly smooth and makes the phone quite comfortable to hold.

Overall, you won’t find too many phones that function as seamlessly and efficiently as the Nexus 5. You certainly won’t find a competitor for $349 (or in my case $399 since I got the 32GB model). If you’re looking for a new phone right now, I highly recommend the Nexus 5!

Why It Took So Long For Barbershop 3 To Be Made

Why It Took So Long For Barbershop 3 To Be Made

Rather than instantly being excited when Barbershop 3 was announced, most moviegoers were instead surprised.

was announced, most moviegoers were instead surprised. Not only were 2002’s Barbershop and 2004’s Barbershop 2: Back In Business hardly box office smashes, neither was the Queen Latifah led 2005 spin-off Beauty Shop . But one man who has been tirelessly working for over a decade to get another Barbershop film made is producer Robert Teitel. And he’s now explained why it took so long.

Robert Teitel talked about why it’s taken so long for Barbershop: The Next Cut to make it to the big screen when I visited the set of the upcoming comedy last year. And the producer admitted that he found resistance from studios to make an "urban" film, all of which changed because of the success of Malcolm D. Lee’s The Best Man Holiday .What’s serendipitous about this turn of events is that Malcolm D. Lee is now directing Barbershop: The Next Cut. Robert Teitel explained: I tried a couple times to get it off the ground. I think part of it had to do, there was kind of a lull in urban films, probably in the mid-2000, so a lot of people weren’t making them as much as they used to. And the irony is the success of Malcolm’s film, Best Man and the sequel, Best Man Holiday , doing so well, kind of propelled me to push even harder. Look how well he did! That film came out at a similar time when Barbershop 2 came out, Barbershop 1 and look at all the years that went by and people still clamored for it. So, I’m so glad Malcolm, of all people, who I worked with on Roll Bounce , kind of came back to do the movie, but his movie actually propelled me to get this made.
While Robert Teitel was working tirelessly to get Barbershop: The Next Cut off the ground, it turns out that the rest of the cast and crew for the film had long assumed that the franchise was dead.

In fact, when I sat down to talk to Eve, who reprises her role as Terri for a third time in The Next Cut , the musician/actress admitted that when she was asked to return she remarked, "No, a third one? Really??" Director Malcolm Lee also revealed that The Next Cut’s writer Kenya Barris had dubbed"the sequel no one wanted to ask for."

However, everyone involved in Barbershop: The Next Cut were soon convinced to join onboard the project because of the power of the script and the film’s intended message.Audiences will get to see for themselves if it was worth the hassle when Barbershop: The Next Cut is released on April 15.

Why Regina Hall Still Loves Scary Movie

Why Regina Hall Still Loves Scary Movie

It's been 16 years since Regina Hall shot to international movie stardom with her performance as Brenda Meeks in Scary Movie .

. As the best friend to Anna Faris' Cindy Campbell, the duo instantly received acclaim for their relatable patter in such an outlandish and hilarious film. And it turns out that Hallstill looks back fondly on the time she spent working on the comedy, especially because she adored working with Anna Faris.

Regina Hall made this admission to me when I visited the set forlast year. Obviously, as a comedic stalwart, Hall has had many highlights in her career, but when pressed for her favorite she made it clear there was only going to be one winner.

I always loved playing Brenda the most, in Scary Movie, because I love Anna Faris so much. I just love Cindy and Brenda. I think they're the worst friends ever. We never pick them to be friends, but they're friends, but you actually believe that they're friends, but you don't know why … I do like Brenda a lot, and like I said, it's because she's so, I remember my first interview after doing that movie, the reporter said, 'Oh, I thought you were going to sound like that,' and I was like, 'Oh, wow.' And like I said it's so great to play opposite Anna. She is just, they're just perfect because she's just this naive white girl and Brenda is this loud black girl, and they just love each other so much.

While the original Scary Movie possessed some rather hilarious moments, and was an enjoyable parody of the horror and slasher genres that dominated the mid-to-late 1990s, its subsequent sequels quickly declined in quality. In fact, arguably the only good element about Scary Movie 2, Scary Movie 3 and Scary Movie 4 was the repeated appearances of both Regina Hall and Anna Faris as the bumbling buddies.

Regina Hall's last appearance in the Scary Movie franchise came in 2006, but she's continued to excel in the comedy genre, appearing in Death At A Funeral, Think Like A Man, The Best Man Holiday, About Last Night, and now Barbershop: The Next Cut ,in which she plays Angie, the owner of the beauty salon that is now adjoined to Calvin's titular establishment.

The third Barbershop film features an all-star cast, including the returning Ice Cube, Cedric The Entertainer, Antony Anderson, and Eve, as well as impressive new posse of actors like Nicki Minaj, J.B. Smoove, Lamorne Morris, Common, and Regina Hall. You can see if the follow-up matches its predecessors, when Barbershop: The Next Cut is released on April 15.

HAND Stylus Capacitive Stylus : Review

HAND Stylus Capacitive Stylus : Review

Since owning my first iPad I have used a wealth of different styluses to both write, sketch with and navigate throughout iPad applications, and on seeing the Hand Stylus I immediately thought its smaller 4mm nib would be perfect for additional accuracy whilst sketching.

Since owning my first iPad I have used a wealth of different styluses to both write, sketch with and navigate throughout iPad applications, and on seeing the Hand Stylus I immediately thought its smaller 4mm nib would be perfect for additional accuracy whilst sketching. Without the need to invest in the more expensive smaller nibbed styluses that require an adapter to be inserted into the 30 pin port of your iPad to use.

HAND Stylus Capacitive Stylus

Now I have the chance to put the Hand Stylus to the test and through its paces. The professional design of the Hand Stylus is reminiscent of a technical writing pen and its metal construction and finishes help it feel robust, yet perfectly weighted for everyday use. Feeling more like a pen in your hand rather than a thick crayon as many styluses on the market do.

The Hand Stylus comes in a metal presentation and storage tin and the stylus design makes it comfortable to grip. Towards the nib of the Hand stylus is a knurling effect on the surface of the metal, which helps provide extra grip to your fingertips, allowing you to guide the stylus with confidence and precision. It also includes a handy pen clip which allows you to attach it to your iPad case or pockets when necessary. The clip is made of steel and will also attach itself to the magnetised area of Apple’s Smart Cover, for handy access and storage.

One thing I have noticed when using the Hand Stylus is that it does require a little more pressure, to use than some other larger tipped styluses, but as soon as you have adjusted to this the stylus performs well as a drawing instrument. Its 4mm nib also makes it easier to perform more detailed drawings and smaller writing when necessary, however does require a little more pressure than some other styluses I have used.

The finish on the Hand Stylus is also very professional, and the choice of 11 anodised aluminium colours available in both matte and gloss finishes, enables you to match the stylus to your iPad case, your taste, and other accessories you might own.

As well as its smaller 4mm tip another innovative feature designed into the Hand Stylus is its auto rotating retractable tip, which rotates 90 degrees every time you either press the stylus tip out, just like a pen, or retract it back into the stylus body. Enabling the tips to be worn down universally all round rather than just one area.

Once a tip does become worn out, which I am guessing takes quite some time. As the one I am using is still in perfect condition, even after extensive use. The tips can be easily removed and a new tip can be quickly fitted, without the need for any tools or glue. Six new tips are available to purchase for $9.95 from the creators website.

I have been using the hand stylus for a number of weeks now, and its proved to be an excellent iPad touchscreen capacitive stylus and one I will continue to use. The Hand Stylus is now available to purchase for $29.95 from the Hand Styluswebsite. For more information watch the video below.

Why Green Room Was A Nightmare To Film, And Why It Was Worth It, According To Anton Yelchin

Why Green Room Was A Nightmare To Film, And Why It Was Worth It, According To Anton Yelchin

Writer/director Jeremy Saulnier’s Green Room is a crazy stressful movie.

is a crazy stressful movie. The entire movie basically hinges on a showdown between a punk band and a crew of murderous Neo-Nazis, and once the tension ratchets up to 10 in the first act, it doesn’t let up until the end credits begin to roll. Watching it, one can’t help but imagine that the intense atmosphere in the tone was reflected on the set, and you’d be 100 percent correct. In fact, Anton Yelchin told us that things got so bad on some days that members of the crew actually had to walk off the set and take a breath before continuing – but it was all worth it, because it just made the film that much better.

Withnow out in limited release and set to expand nationwide at the end of the month, I had the pleasure of hopping on the phone with Anton Yelchinto talk about the new film, and I took the opportunity to ask about exactly how the tension in the movie was created on set. The young actor pointed to the fact that the film – which is basically set over the course of 16 hours – was put together in just a little over 20 days, and that led to a high level of "concentration" during production that really put a certain kind of poison in the air. Said Yelchin,
If there’s just one person in the room, seven people in a room, that are putting out a lot of incredibly painful and volatile energy, you end up feeding off of that. There was a point which I looked around and Alia [Shawkat] was crying, Joe [Cole] was crying, Callum [Turner] was crying, Imogen [Poots] was crying. Eric [Edelstein] was on the ground, like suffocated and huffing and puffing, and I thought I was going to lose my mind. That was every day for 20 something days, and I think that inevitably, that’s what maintains that tension. I know that for the crew, there were days that they couldn’t watch. People walked out. There was really tough on everyone.
That’s a pretty damn vivid word picture, and hearing it I don’t think anyone would fault Anton Yelchin negatively looking back on the experience of making. Fortunately, that’s not the case, however. While the pressure was incredibly high, and the atmosphere on set incredibly stressful, Yelchin believes that it was ultimately what the movie needed in order to be as effective as the final cut is:
It registers that way on screen, so there’s really… you know, when I watched the film, and I’m hyper-critical, but it doesn’t feel false to me. It feels pretty, accordingly intense.
In the film, Anton Yelchinplays a member of a punk band that is wrapping up a show at a Neo-Nazicompound when they witness the end result of a murder. When they try and fail to call the authorities, they wind up getting trapped in the backstage green room, and must find a way to escape before the gun-toting skinheads kill them all. When you see the film for yourself, you will perfectly understand why the rough atmosphere pays off.

will expand to theaters nationwide on April 29th.

Samsung Galaxy Note Review

Samsung Galaxy Note Review

It is time for our Samsung Galaxy Note review, the Samsung Galaxy Note was first launched near the end of last year, unfortunately we didn’t manage to review the device when it was released, so I thought it was about time to try one out.

The first thing you notice about the Samsung Galaxy Note is the size of the device compared to other handsets, the device is designed to be a combination device between a smartphone and a tablet, and it features a 5.3inch Super AMOLED display.

Galaxy Note Review

Samsung Galaxy Note Hardware Specifications

The Samsung Galaxy Note’s 5.3 inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, the device comes with Samsung’s S-Pen and processing is provided by a dual core 1.4GHz processor.

The Galaxy Note features an 8 megapixel camera on the back which can record full HD video in 1080 at 30 frames per second, the camera also features an LED flash, up front there is a 2 megapixel camera for video chat.

Samsung Galaxy Note

Other specifications on the Samsung Galaxy Note include Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0 and 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi plus WiFi direct, it comes with 16GB of built in storage plus a microSD card slot which takes up to 32GB microSD cards.

Samsung Galaxy Note Design, Display And UI

The first thing you notice about the Samsung Galaxy Note is the size of the device, especially when compared to other handsets, the photo below illustrates just how large the Samsung Galaxy note is when compared to other devices, as you can see in the photo which shows the Galaxy Note next to the iPhone 4S.

Samsung Galaxy Note iPhone 4S

Considering the Galaxy Notes large 5.3 inch display we would have expected it to be thicker and heavier , but the handset measures just 9.65mm thick and weighs in at just 178 grams.

The Galaxy Notes 5.3 inch display is a Super AMOLED display which has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, and as with previous Samsung devices with an AMOLED display that we have reviewed it certainly is an impressive display.

Galaxy Note Review

The 5.3 inch Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy Note in excellent, and great for watching videos and movies, also browsing the web, reading emails and playing games is also very good on the display.

The Galaxy Note we tested in this review had Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread and Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface which is great to use, although Samsung has started rolling out their Android 4.0 ICS update to the device.

Samsung Galaxy Note Processor, Camera And S-Pen

As we mentioned the Samsung Galaxy Note features a dual core 1.4GHz processor, the processor feels pretty fast on the device, opening apps and running games on the handset feels fast and responsive.

Galaxy Note Camera

The Galaxy note features a rear facing 8 megapixel camera which does it great job of taking photos, it also has an LED flash and comes with some cool feature like Panorama, the photo below gives you an idea of how camera on the Galaxy note is, the image has been resized but not edited.

Galaxy Note Sample Photo

The Galaxy Note’s camera can also record full high definition video in 1080p at 30 frames per second, and it does a good job with video, there is also a front facing 2 megapixel camera for video chat.

One of the more interesting features on the Galaxy Note is the S-Pen, which is a stylus designed to be used with the 5.3 inch Super AMOLED display, i have never been a fan of the stylus with touchscreen devices, but the Samsung S-Pen works very well.

Galaxy S-Pen

The Galaxy Note features a number of built in apps that are designed specifically for the S-Pen, which include S-Memo, and more plus there are a bunch of third party apps available which are designed for the S-Pen.

Samsung Galaxy Note Battery Life And Call Quality

The Samsung Galaxy Note features a 2,500 mAh Li-on battery which does a reasonable job, and I would say it is better than average considering the handsets large 5.3 inch display.

Galaxy Note

Moderate users should get at least a full day of usage out of the handset, although if you are a heavy user then you can expect to charge the handset once a day, don’t expect to go for days without charging the device.

The call quality is excellent on the Samsung Galaxy Note, we tested the GSM version on UK mobile carrier three and didn’t have any issues making or receiving calls.

Conclusion

When I first heard about the Samsung Galaxy Note and saw the specifications, and the size of the device, I didn’t think this would be the sort of device I would like to use on a daily basis.

I used the Samsung Galaxy Note as my handset for about two weeks and was pleasantly surprised with the experience, whilst it is one of the largest smartphones I have used it certainly was a fun handset to use.

Galaxy Note Review

It has it plus and minus points, as the device is so large I am not sure if I could use this as my regular handset, although if I wanted one device to replace my smartphone and tablet then this would definitely be a contender.

Samsung have done a great job with the Galaxy Note, the design the handset as a cross between a smartphone and a tablet, which some people call a ‘Phablet’, and if you are looking for a device to cover these two areas than the Samsung Galaxy Note fits the bill.

Samsung Galaxy Note

I would definitely recommend that you test out the Samsung Galaxy Note to see what you think of it, it may not be for everyone due to its large size, but it is a great device for those who want one device rather than two.

The model tested in this review was the GSM Galaxy Note running Android 2.3.5 and it was on UK mobile carrier Three, the handset is available for free on a number of different contracts and you can find out more details over at Three, the device is also available from other mobile carriers here in the UK, have a look at the photo gallery bellow.

HTC Sensation XL Review

HTC Sensation XL Review

In our HTC Sensation XL review we look at the larger version if the HTC Sensation, which comes with a larger display and some upgrades over the original HTC Sensation.

As the name suggests the HTC Sensation XL has be super sized over the original Sensation, the Sensation XL features a 4.7 inch touchscreen display, as opposed to a 4.3 inch display in the original Sensation.

HTC Sensation XL Review

The HTC Sensation featured a qHD display with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels, where as the Sensation XL features a lower resolution of 480 x 800 pixels.

The 4.7 inch display makes the device pretty large, have a look at the photo below, which compares the Sensation XL to the iPhone 4S, which has a 3.5 inch display, this will give you a good idea of just how large the HTC Sensation XL is.

HTC Sensation XL Review

HTC Sensation XL Hardware Specifications

The HTC Sensation XL features a 4.7 inch Super LCD display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, processing is provided by a single core 1.5GHz processor and it comes with 16GB of built in storage.

HTC Sensation XL

There is no microSD card slot on the HTC Sensation XL, which means you are limited to the 16GB of built in storage, and it also features dual cameras, with a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video chat and a rear facing 8 megapixel camera for photos and video.

You also get 768MB of RAM, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, HSDPA and HSUPA, plus 802.11 b/g/n Wifi, DLNA, plus a micro USB port, it also comes with Beats Audio, and comes bundled with a pair of Beats Solo headphones.

HTC Sensation XL Design, Display And UI

The HTC Sensation XL features a 4.7 inch WVGA Super LC display, which has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, as opposed to the qHD resolution on the original HTC Sensation.

The display looks pretty good, it isn’t one of the best displays we have seen, although it certainly isn’t the worst, and everything looks pretty good one the display.

HTC Sensation XL

Colors look bright and vibrant, and although the device has a lower resolution that the original Sensation, things actually look better on the Sensation XL’s display.

The handset certainly feels like a well made device, it features a metal casing on the back along with some white plastic bumpers at the top and bottom of the handset, which you can see in the photo below.

HTC Sensation XL

The HTC Sensation XL features HTC’s custom user interface HTC Sense, and the version on the device is HTC Sense 3.5, although HTC recently released a new version with their latest devices.

HTC Sensation XL Processor And Camera

The HTC Sensation XL features a single core 1.5GHz processor, which does a good job at a variety of tasks, but isn’t exactly the fastest on a smartphone we have tested out.

The Sensation XL features two camera, up front there is a 1.3 megapixel camera for video chat, which does a pretty good job and exactly what you would expect.

HTC Sensation XL

The rear camera on the device is an 8 megapixel camera, which unfortunately is limited to 720p HD video as opposed to 1080p video in the original Sensation.

It also doesn’t feature any sort of image stabilization, it doesn’t do a bad job at taking photos, have a look at the sample photo below in full resolution.

Video isn’t bad, but certainly not as good as other devices, have look at the video sample below which was recorded on the HTC Sensation XL, with the standard settings at the maximum resolution of 720p.

The HTC Sensation XL has another feature for video recording you can record slow motion videos, although this is done at a lower resolution.

HTC Sensation XL Battery Life

The HTC Sensation XL features a 1,600 mAh battery, and considering the large display, the battery didn’t do a bad job, although if you area heavy user you can expect to charge the device once a day.

HTC Sensation XL

More moderate users might get about a day and a half out of the device, although it really depends what you are using it for, watching videos on the large display seems to drain the battery more than anything.

Conclusion

The HTC Sensation XL has some good points and also no so good points, the camera is fine for photos, but not so good for recording video, the display on the device is pretty good though and this is one of the devices plus points.

Overall the HTC Sensation XL isn’t a bad Android smartphone, but considering its price there are definitely better Android smartphones out there for the same money.

The model we tested in this review was from UK mobile operator Three, who have the device available with a range of monthly contracts, the handset is also available from a range of other carriers here in the UK, as well as being available SIM free from a number of online retailers for around £400.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Review

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Review

In our Samsung Galaxy Nexus review we look at Google’s latest Nexus smartphone, and it comes with a range of impressive specifications, plus the latest version of Google’s mobile OS, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

This is Google’s third Nexus smartphone, and probably the most anticipated Android device to be released to date, as it is the first smartphone to launch with Android 4.0.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Review

The first thing you notice about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the display, it features a massive 4.65 inch Super AMOLED plus HD display and whilst it is the same thickness as Apple’s new iPhone 4S it looks massive next to it.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus  Hardware Specifications

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus has some impressive specifications, it features a 4.65 inch Super AMOLED HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

Processing is provided by a dual core 1.2GHz processor and there is also 1GB of RAM, and a choice of 16GB or 32GB of built in storage, there are also two cameras on the Galaxy Nexus with a 1.3 megapixel camera up front and a rear facing advanced 5 megapixel camera on the back.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The rear 5 megapixel camera is capable of recording full high definition video in 1080p at 30 frames per second, and the front facing camera is also capable of recording HD video, this time in 720p at 30 frames per second.

Other specifications on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus include A-GPS, an accelerometer, proximity sensor, compass and a 1750 mAh battery and NFC. One thing that is missing from the device is additional storage in the form of a microSD or SD card slot.

The model we tested in this review is the GSM version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, there is also a 4G LTE version available in the US.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Design And Display

The first things you notice about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the size of the handset, the 4.65 inch Super AMOLED display makes it one of the largest devices out there, excluding something like the Samsung Galaxy Note, this is not necessarily a bad thing.

Put the Samsung Galaxy Nexus next to something like the iPhone 4S and you get a good idea of just how big the handset is, and it would definitely take some getting used to.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The display on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is very good, everything looks sharp and clear, and the 1280 x 720 pixel resolution makes everything look excellent, especially for YouTube videos or movies.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The Galaxy Nexus casing is made from plastic, although it feels like a quality well made device with its curved display, and everything has been designed to be exactly in the right place, probably one if the nicest designs from Samsung to date.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus And Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus comes with the latest version of Google’s Android OS, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which simply put is the best version of Android to date.

Android 4.0 is a massive upgrade from Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and it comes with a wide range of new features that make the OS much more user friendly.

Android 4.0 ICS

It is considerably faster than previous versions of Android, and it comes with some cool features like Face Unlock, which will let you unlock your Samsung Galaxy Nexus by holding the handset in front of your face.

Other new features in Ice Cream Sandwich include the removal of the front buttons on the device, the buttons are now built into the software and they now change orientation when you move the device, this is a really nice feature on the Galaxy Nexus.

Android 4.0

Multitasking has also had an upgrade on Android 4.0, there is now a recent apps button which shows your most recent applications in a vertical stack that can be easily accessed.

Another cool new feature in ICS is Android Beam, this uses the Samsung Galaxy Nexus’s NFC feature which allows you share anything with another compatible Android smartphones, like photos, contacts and more.

Android 4.0

Overall Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is by far the best and most user friendly version of Android to date, it is much faster than the previous version, and there are a wide range of new features.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Camera, Photos And Video

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus features an advanced 5 megapixel camera which is capable of recording full HD video in 1080p, and whilst it is not the best camera we have found on a smartphone it is definitely capable of getting the job done.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I did wonder why Samsung and Google didn’t put a better camera in the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the camera software in Android 4.0 is excellent and it would have been good to see maybe a slightly better camera in the device.

Galaxy Nexus Camera

That said the camera is still very capable of recording decent video and photos, have a look at the photo below which was shot on the Galaxy Nexus at full resolution with standard settings.

The video below shows us how good the Samsung Galaxy Nexus’s camera is at recording video, the video was recorded at maximum resolution in full HD at 1080p, standard settings were also used to record the video.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Call Quality And Battery Life

No complaints on call quality at all, everything worked well and reception and call quality was excellent, we didn’t experience any issues whilst making voice calls, although call quality and reception is more dependent on the individual mobile networks than the device.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus features a 1750 mAh battery on the model we tested in this review which is the GSM version, the LTE version has a slightly larger battery.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The battery on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is decent, standby time on the device is acceptable, although not the best we have seen on a smartphone.

Using the Galaxy Nexus for our normal daily tasks, browsing the web, sending emails, making voice calls watching a couple of videos the battery did OK, not the best we have seen but not the worst either.

Moderate users will end up having to charge the Galaxy Nexus at the end of the day, if you are a heavy user, depending on what you use the device for you may end up having to charge the Galaxy Nexus before the end of the day.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is probably the best Android smartphone we have tested to date, the 4.65 inch Super AMOLED display is excellent, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich makes the device a joy to use.

Everything seems fast on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and the dual core 1.2GHz processor makes everything run fast and smoothly, along with Android 4.0.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

There are a couple of things we feel Samsung could have done better on the Galaxy Nexus, the camera is good, but not the best we have seen and the battery is OK, it could have been better.

Overall the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is in my opinion the best Android smartphone available at the moment, although how long this will last remains to be seen.

If you are in the market for a new smartphone, then the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is one device that you should add to your list of handsets to try out.

The model tested in this review was the GSM version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, we tested a version for mobile carrier Three, and you can find out more information about the device over at Three, it is also available in the UK with other mobile carries and it is available in the US, with 4G LTE with Verizon Wireless.
