Sony has finally released an updated PlayStation Vita model in the United States, after introducing it in the United Kingdom in January.

vita v2Sony has finally released an updated PlayStation Vita model in the United States, after introducing it in the United Kingdom in January. There was also a Japanese launch late last year. This PS Vita Slim is 20 percent slimmer and 15 percent lighter than the original version.

Aside from that, very few changes have been made to the handheld game console overall. One of the changes that did take place is the OLED panel, changed to a 960×540 IPS LCD version, which along with the other improvements, will improve battery life so that it lasts up to six hours.

You can look forward to the same quad-core Cortex A9-based processor with 512MB of RAM and 128MB of VRAM, but it adds 1GB of built-in storage for game installs and other content. Connecting the PS Vita Slim is also different now, with Sony’s proprietary solution being ditched for a microUSB version. Fans of the handheld may want to give it a shot, as well as those who haven’t taken the plunge yet. That is, if you like lighter and thinner handhelds that come along with other improvements. And who doesn’t? Sony hopes to sell a lot of these this year.

How will Nintendo stand in a crowded mobile market?

The mobile game market has been crowded for quite some time now.

The mobile game market has been crowded for quite some time now.  With Nintendo’s upcoming line of mobile game titles, it stands to reason that the question on everyone’s mind is how exactly will Nintendo break into this market and still keep their brand of creativity intact?    Shigeru Miyamoto, creater of Legend of Zelda and now creative fellow at Nintendo, said during a Q&A session with investors, “If we can expand to smart devices what we have been challenging ourselves with on Nintendo’s dedicated game systems by taking advantage of the unique characteristics of smart devices, we believe that Nintendo will be able to create a new style of games and spread them all around the world.”

In regards to Miitomo, which is set to be the first of Nintendo’s online games, it would be a combination of Nintendo’s creative brand and social networking.   Shinya Takahashi stated in regards to the new app “”We believe that smart device users will enjoy Miitomo as we are offering Nintendo IP called Mii with which anyone can feel an affinity.”   The Nintendo IP will be created by both Nintendo and DeNA.   Nintendo has stated that by partnering with this mobile game company, DeNA can focus on the operation of the app while Nintendo can focus on the creativity part.

For information about the Miitomo release date being pushed back and the partnership with DeNA check out this article.

Most of the Android smartphones out there have a microSD card slot for storage expansion. If you have multiple memory cards, having to open up your device and swap them out frequently can be annoying. A company called Leef has announced a new device that adds an external microSD card reader to the mix.

leef-access-gg

Leef is the same company that unveiled the Leef Bridgelast year. The Access device has a long microUSB neck on the card reader that lets users plug into their device’s microUSB port without removing the smartphone from the case. Once connected you can move data using the reader’s memory card.

Leef Access supports the direct playback of video, photos, and other content from the memory card installed. That means you can stream movies and other content from the memory card without having to install it into your device. It also means that devices that lack a memory card slot or have one that is hard to access can use the card easily. It is compatible with all microSD cards and is available now for $9.99.

“My phone is my computer. We all are doing more and more on phones and less on computers so a microSD reader for Android is a simple way to quickly move data,” said Mark Schulte, Lead Design Engineer at Leef. “As the data revolution leads more and more people away from computers, we recognize a need to make it easy and convenient for people to share data between mobile devices.”

First unconfirmed look at Pokémon Go

First unconfirmed look at Pokémon Go

The video was reportedly captured at SKSW(South by Southwest), at a panel hosted by John Hanke.

Pokémon Go has had its first unofficial look thanks to YouTuber Eric F.

Hanke is the CEO of developer Niantic, who is in charge of Pokémon Go. The footage posted does not include any of the panel stage, keeping Hanke out of the shot. The footage filmed does show a large screen, so it’s completely possible that this is legitimate footage.

The video has Hanke explaining how you’ll have to adventure to different areas to capture different types. He even mentions mountains, meaning that mountain bikers and hikers may be in luck.

The ‘capturing’ of the Pokémon requires you to fling Pokéballs at a target, and when successfully hit, has a chance of catching.

The game is set for a 2016 release date in Japan, Europe, and North America.

Samsung has announced it will hold its Unpacked Episode 1 2014 press event on the first day of the Mobile World Congress 2014. The event will also be streamed for those who are unable to visit Barcelona for MWC 2014.

Usually, Samsung unveil its flagship devices at its Unpacked events, and this year might be the same. Recently, Eldar Murtazin sent out a tweet mentioning some of the hardware specifications of the alleged Samsung Galaxy S5.

samsung7111-1

To refresh your memory, Murtazin also tweeted last month that Samsung will unveil the handset in February, and today he revealed some of the specifications of the alleged Samsung Galaxy S5. According to Murtazin, it will rock with a 5.24-inch display boasting a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels with 3GB of RAM and 32/64GB of internal storage.

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy S5 will come with Snapdragon 805 or Exynos 6 Octa chipset, as usual for the 3G and LTE-enabled version. Other features include 16MP camera, 3.2 megapixel front-facing camera and a massive 3,200 mAh battery. This should be a good bump compared to the 2,600 mAh battery, along with additional storage similar to the Galaxy Note 3. This should make some users happy who were unhappy about the low storage in the Samsung Galaxy S4.

Let’s hope the specifications are correct. We’ll update you once we have any extra information about the handset.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens shows off new gameplay trailer

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens shows off new gameplay trailer

A new trailer for the somewhat unexpected LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens video game is showing us some of the gameplay we’ll expect.

One major change to the formula is cover-based shooting, something that will deeply change the way this LEGO title is played compared to other titles. As well, some situations might have different ways to solve the same puzzle, or might involve building multiple pieces to solve one puzzle. As always, though, the game offers its usual set of light-hearted parody of the source material.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens releases on June 28th, 2016 for PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, 3DS, PS3, PS4, and PS Vita.

A major glitch occurred with the massive Outer Rim DLC for Star Wars: Battlefront, but DICE has released a hotfix for the glitch.

The glitch caused players to instantly reach the level cap of 60, and then crash the game at the end of every round. Since then, the glitch has been fixed.

“We apologize for any inconvenience but this step is necessary so that you can properly gain levels again and avoid crashes at the end of rounds,” DICE added.

The original patch was a whole 8 gb and added support for the game’s new Outer Rim DLC. You can also read the full patch notes here.

Next Major Destiny Update Arriving September 20th 2016?

As the latest Destiny update rolls out for players to enjoy it seems that the games developer Bungie has unveiled the next major Destiny update release date in a cryptic and sneaky way via Reddit.

Next Major Destiny Update

A Bungie developer has taken to Reddit and created an account under the name of Rezyl Azzir, publishing a walk-through to a hidden object that was posted just 16 minutes after the release of the latest April update.

Strangely the Reddit account has now been deleted together with the article but not before users were able to check out the walk-through and the lore it contained with details of a character named Rezyl Azzir, together with a short story about his life. The account also published a message in Latin shortly before it was removed writing :

Vegisima die mensis noni. ILLUD est venturus. Per Audacia ad astra.

The twentieth day of the ninth month. IT is coming. Forward, to the stars.

Which would coincide with the rumours and hints that have been placed by Bungie over the past months that a September launch date could possibly bring a new major Destiny update for players to enjoy. As soon as more information is confirmed by Bungie we will keep you updated as always.

Sylvester Stallone’s famous character, John Rambo might be appearing in a new television show. Stallone is involved in talks to bring the character to the small screen. The series would take place in the same universe as the Rambo films, revolving around his Navy SEAL son and himself, as well as the relationship between them.

Stallone hasn’t stated whether he will appear in the series, however it has been stated that he will not be reprising his role as Rambo. He did however reprise another of his famed roles earlier this month in Creed, as an aging Rocky Balboa. Stallone wrote the first six Rocky movies, as well as created the character of Rocky Balboa. He also co-wrote the screenplays for the first three Rambo films and wrote the story for the fourth installation.

Google’s Annual Android Security Report Says Malware Is Down Significantly

Google has released its annual Android security report for 2015 and the company has revealed that malware is down significantly on Android.

Android Security

The company released some figures and data collection is down 40% to 0.28% of installs, spyware is down some 60% to 0.02% of installs and hostile downloader is down 59% to 0.01% of installs.

Overall, PHAs were installed on fewer than 0.15% of devices that only get apps from Google Play. About 0.5% of devices that install apps from both Play and other sources had a PHA installed during 2015, similar to the data in last year’s report.

Apple Drops Support For Windows Quicktime App

Apple Drops Support For Windows Quicktime App

Following on from the discovery of two new security holes in the Apple Windows QuickTime application by researchers earlier this month, Apple has now confirmed that it will no longer be supporting the Windows Quicktime App.

Apple Drops Support For Windows Quicktime App

Apple has this week issued instructions for uninstalling the old QuickTime app from your Windows systems explaining that leaving it installed on your computer may pose a security threat and allow others to gain access to your operating system.

The news follows on from the statement issued by the Department of Homeland Security last week recommending Windows users uninstall Quicktime because of potential security holes. Apple has now backed this up and confirm the issues requesting Windows users to uninstall QuickTime.

The services that QuickTime once provided are now available via different technologies such as HTML 5 which has removed the need for the application. So if you still have it installed on your Windows operating system it is definitely time to uninstall it and keep your system safe from harm and exploitation by hackers.

Netflix will double its original programming by 2016

Netflix will double its original programming by 2016

Netflix has been a stable trend in society for the past few years.

Netflix has been a stable trend in society for the past few years.  In its infancy, it was a platform designed to deliver and stream content for other companies. Now in 2015, Netflix has expanded into created and producing original content for streaming, After creating numerous shows, it was clear that the expansion into original programming was a wise decision on Netflix’s part. Recently, Netflix  has announced that it has plans to double its original content in 2016.

Chief content officer at Netflix, Ted Sarandos confirmed this news  at the UBS Media Conference in New York. The total new series for 2015 was 16. The new plan for 2016 calls for a total of 31 scripted series. There would also be 30 kids shows, and Netflix will product 10 new feature films.

High-profile shows released this year have included:

Marvel’s Daredevil Jessica Jones Master of None Bloodline House of Cards Orange is the New Black .

According to the Wired , one of Netflix’s biggest issues for expansion are the licensing terms that affect when titles can be released in certain territories. “I don’t know if it’s more difficult than I expected, but it has not been an easy road,” Sarandos said. “It’s a big change.”

It is a strategic move for Netflix to expand their original content. One of its biggest hits has been Orange is the New Black. After the completion of their latest season, the show received nominations for the Emmy. The show made history by having the first transgender actress nominated in a category. Other shows like Jessica Jones is growing popularity despite being fairly new. With the saturation of the digital streaming market, this strategy will differentiate Netflix from the competition.

Bring on the new shows. It is time to binge.

Huawei Trademarks “Huawei 7P” Hinting At the Upcoming Nexus Device

Huawei Trademarks “Huawei 7P” Hinting At the Upcoming Nexus Device

Huawei 6P is possibly one of the best Android devices available at the moment.

Huawei 6p

Huawei 6P is possibly one of the best Android devices available at the moment. Google and Huawei partnered to product an excellent Android device with top-notch specifications and features.

Recently, Huawei trademarked “Huawei 7P” name, hinting at another Nexus device which may see the light of the day later this year.

There’s no word about the existence of any such device, or if Huawei will manufacture this year’s Nexus device, but there’ are quite a few possibilities. It could very well be the successor of the Nexus 6P, offering Android N operating system and latest hardware.

There’s also a possibility of it being the successor of the highly successful Nexus 7 tablet which launches almost three years ago and offered a nice mix of features at an affordable price. It may not pan out since the trademark description clearly hints at a mobile device.

There’s no word from the Chinese manufacturer about any such device. You never know, it may not launch and may just be a trademark for a future project.

We’ll update you if we hear anything more about it.

Compensation for Xbox Live outages may be given by Microsoft

Compensation for Xbox Live outages may be given by Microsoft

The head of Xbox Live subscription services is considering compensating users for outages of the online service throughout February and March.

Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, Xbox Live Director of Programming took to the Xbox One Subredditto respond to a thread asking if compensation would be a possibility for subscribers for the recent interruption of services.

“I’ve taken some of the more thoughtful comments and shared them with a few folks on the Xbox team to make them aware of this request,” Hryb wrote in a Reddit comment. “That’s about all I’ve got right now—but when I am back in the office I am going to stop by and chat 1:1 with some folks about this as well.”

Nothing is happening as of yet, but it’s excellent to see that Microsoft are aware of the effect of these outages to subscribers and are actively looking for ways to rectify any issues caused.

Blizzard updates Diablo II and Warcraft III

While it is always exciting to see new games be developed and then and then hit the world with great new graphics and features, sometimes it can be fantastic to stick with the classics. Blizzard knows there are plenty who feel this way. That’s why they’ve decided to put some effort to helping them out.

Diablo II and Warcraft III came out in 2000 and 2002, respectively. That is over a decade ago for both. This, however, has not stopped Blizzard from releasing an update for both. These updates have improved these fantasy titles and their abilities to play on modern operating systems, such as Windows 10. The company stated in the announcement, “We’ve also begun working to improve our cheat-detection and hack-prevention capabilities. There’s still work to be done, but we’re making improvements every day.”

It is refreshing to see a huge developer like Blizzard have such devotion to an older community. I hope those who play Diablo II and Warcraft III appreciate the effort.
