Xbox 360 Celebrates Its 10th Birthday

Over the weekend Microsoft’s old generation Xbox 360 celebrated its 10th birthday after being made available via retail on November 22nd 2005.

To recap the original 360 console was equipped with a 3.2 GHz PowerPC Tri-Core Xenon processor that was supported by 512 MB of GDDR3 RAM clocked at 700 MHz and 500 MHz ATI Xenos.

The Xbox 360iIs currently the sixth highest selling video game console in history and as of June 2014, 84 million Xbox 360 consoles units had been sold worldwide.

Launched worldwide across 2005–2006, the 360 was initially in short supply in many regions, including North America and Europe. The earliest versions of the console suffered from a high failure rate, indicated by the so-called “Red Ring of Death”, necessitating an extension of the device’s warranty period. Microsoft released two redesigned models of the console: the Xbox 360 S in 2010, and the Xbox 360 E in 2013. The Microsoft 360 was released on November 22, 2005, in the United States and Canada;[5] December 2, 2005, in Europe and December 10, 2005, in Japan.

More recently Microsoft has this month rolled out its new Xbox One Experience for the Xbox 360 consoles successor that provides next-generation console owners with the ability to play older 360 games thanks to its backwards compatibility feature.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge Gets Android Marshmallow in Canada

Samsung has already released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in several global markets.

Samsung has already released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in several global markets. However, there was no word of the roll out for the handsets tied to Canadian carriers.

According to a new report, several carriers in Canada are now rolling out the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

The report mentions that the first carriers to roll out the update are SaskTel, Eastlink and Videotron, while Bell and Telus are expected to commence the roll out process in the next few days. Unfortunately, there’s no word about the variants tied to Rogers, but we’re hoping it will also get the update soon.

You can wait for the OTA to arrive on your handset, which can take a few days. Alternatively, you can manually check for the update from Settings, or hook your smartphone with your PC or Mac through the company’s Smart Switch app to manually download the update from your computer.

Audi SQ7 TDI Gets Official

Audi has announced a new version of their Q7 at this years Geneva Motor Show, the Audi SQ7 TDIwhich features Audi’s new 4.0 TDI engine.

The new Audi SQ7 TDI comes with 435 horsepower and 663 lb-ft of torque, it has a 0 to 62 miles per hour time of just 4.8 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155.3 miles per hour.

“Following the launch of the successful SQ5*, we are now also applying the concept of a diesel-engined S model to the Q7 model line. So equipped, the SQ7 TDI with a V8 TDI engine achieves the consumption figures of a six-cylinder. The new technology solution of the electric powered compressor in the SQ7 TDI is a world first in the competitive environment, with which Audi once again underscores its claim Vorsprung durch Technik,” said Dr. Stefan Knirsch, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Technical Development.

The 4.0 TDI has been newly developed from the ground up. It combines best-in-class performance with low consumption and guarantees maximum dynamics. The V8 engine has a displacement of 3,956 cc. The two exhaust-gas turbochargers are activated selectively according to the concept of sequential charging, since exhaust gas only flows through one turbocharger at low and intermediate load. The second turbine is only activated at higher loads. An electric powered compressor (EPC) augments the work of the two turbochargers, particularly in the lower engine speed range, providing for extremely dynamic off-the-line performance.

Both the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Pro come with a battery that will give you up to 10 hours of surfing the web over WiFi, watching videos and listening to music. There is also support for WiFi and Bluetooth 4.3 on both tablets, plus the Cellular models comes with LTE and the iPad Pro comes with LTE Advanced which offers faster download speed.

The new iPad Pro comes with support for the new Apple Pencil and also Apple’s Smart Keyboard, the iPad Air 2 does not support these features.

Both tablets shares a similar design, they are both thin and light and measure 6.1mm thick, the WiFi models weigh in at 437 grams and the WiFi and Cellular models are slightly heavier at 444 grams.

Pricing for the iPad Pro starts at $599 for the 32GB WiFi only tablet, the 128GB model is $749 and the 256GB model is $899. The cellular 9.7 inch iPad Pro starts at $729 for the 32GB model, the 128GB model costs $879 and the top 256GB model will set you back $1029.

Should You Buy The iPad Air 2 Or The iPad Pro?

This is a tricky question to answer and depends on your priorities, if you already have an iPad Air 2 then it could be a difficult choice to upgrade to the new iPad Pro, whilst there are some gains in upgrading.

If you want an improved camera and also intend to use the Apple Pencil then the iPad Pro is the tablet to go for, it will also offer improved overall performance over the iPad Air 2.

The iPad Air 2 is a very capable tablet and if you are on a budget, then this might be the better option as prices for this tablet start at $200 less than that of the new 9.7 inch Pro.

LeTV Le Max Pro Is The World’s First Snapdragon 820 Smartphone

LeTV is the first company to announce a smartphone with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, the Le Max Pro.

Apple’s iPhone 5S is powered by the Apple A7 processor and also the M7 coprocessor, this was introduced in 2013 with the launch of the 5S. Both handsets are capable of taking Panorama photos, the iPhone 5S can take 43 megapixel Panorama’s and the iPhone SE 63 megapixel Panorama’s. The two handsets feature a 1.2 megapixel front facing Apple FaceTime camera which is capable of 720p video.

The new camera in the iPhone SE is a significant upgrade over the camera in the 5S, this could be a good reason to upgrade if the camera and photography is high on the list of your priorities for an iPhone. The camera is the same one that is used in the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.

The iPhone Se is equipped with a 1642 mAh battery, this is larger than the 1560 mAh battery in the iPhone 5S, the handset also comes with Bluetooth 4.2 whilst the 5S features Bluetooth 4.0.

When Nick Fury Will Return To The Marvel Movies, According To Samuel L. Jackson

Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Furyhas become a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its creation. He’s a character that could appear in almost any Marvel film, serving as a connective bridge between all the movies. That was what his role was largely in Phase One and his appearance meant that it was all connected. His role diminished a little in Phase Two with his last appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron serving as more of a souped-up cameo. Many have wondered what Nick Fury’s role will be in Phase Three and how many movies Jackson is still contracted to appear in. Now the actor has given us some definitive information on when we can next see the ex-Director of SHIELD.

Speaking with Fandangofor his upcoming role in this summer's The Legend of Tarzan ,Samuel L. Jackson answered some questions on which Marvel movie his Nick Fury will be appearing in next: I think I'm in Avengers 3 and 4 , but I'm not in Civil War,
Not exactly definitive, but it’s a pretty good answer. It seemed logical that Nick Fury would have some dogs in the fight for(he did create the Avengers, after all), but in a movie that already stars every Avenger, there might not have been any room for the super spy. So, it’ll be awhile before fans will see Fury again. Avengers: Infinity War Part I and II aren’t scheduled for release until 2018 and 2019 respectively. That’s a lot of years without any Nick Fury, but nothing seems to be set in stone. Nick Fury is something of an after credits scene master, so it’s not ridiculous to think he might appear at the end of movies like Black Panther or Doctor Strange .

It was previously speculated that Nick Fury could appear in Thor: Ragnarok .Samuel L. Jackson was previously filming Kong: Skull Island on Australia’s Golden Coast right before Thor: Ragnarok begins filming in the same location. It’s not hard to believe that Jackson could simply go from one set to the other but it seems he won’t be making an appearance. This could be for the best; it is pretty difficult to see Nick Fury in a movie that’s been described as an intergalactic road movie with Thor and Hulk.

As far as appearing in Infinity War Part I and II , that makes much more sense. It’s been reported that those films will have around 67 characters appearing and it would be crazy to think that Nick Fury wouldn’t be one of them. If every hero on earth is going to battle a villain as big as Thanos, then someone needs to be the guy helping to run the show and keep everyone informed and focused. That’s a job that just screams Nick Fury.

It may be awhile before you can see Nick Fury, but Captain America: Civil War is right around the corner and opens May 6, 2016

We have been hearing about the Samsung Galaxy Tab Android tablet for quite some time now, and expecting Samsung to give us more details of this new tablet at the IFA.

An Android application developer in Israel has got his hands on the new Samsung Galaxy Tab, and there are now a few more details about it, which include a CDMA Radio.

As the Samsung Galaxy Tab include CDMA, it could end up being available on either Verizon or Sprint, and we now also know some details about some of the accessories that will be available with the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

There will be a QWERTY keyboard dock, and a table charging station, which will feature HDMI connectivity, this could mean that the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be capable of displaying HD video on an external display.

It definitely sounds like one of the most interesting Android tablets we have seen so far, and may just be able to give the Apple iPada run for its money.

During a panel at Wizard World New Orleans (via ComicBookMovie), director Anthony Russo mistakenly referred Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter as "Sharon" (Sharon Carter, as we know, is a separate character played by Emily VanCamp). Defending his brother and partner, Joe Russo explained that it’s hard to keep track of everyone who’s involved with the Avengers: Infinity War movies. He said: We have so many characters we're dealing with.  We're breaking ground on Avengers: Infinity War. We have a board with 67 characters on it. You have to forgive him.
We’d be foolish to hold the Russos to that exact number, but from what little we know about the Avengers: Infinity War movies, it wouldn’t be surprising if the two movies featured close to that amount. In many ways, the two-part adventure is the culmination of everything that’s been established in the MCU since 2008. More importantly, it’s going to take everything the Avengers have to defeat Thanos. The Mad Titan is already powerful on his own (he’s gone head-to-head with Hulk in the comics), but with the six Infinity Stones in his Infinity Gauntlet, he’ll be near-invincible. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will definitely be needing reinforcements.

Aside from Josh Brolin making his first full appearance as Thanos, the Avengers: Infinity War movies are also expected to feature Captain America, Iron Man Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye, and even Loki. It’s also more likely than not that we’ll see every other Avenger, from Black Widowto Falcon, take part, whether they’re still affiliated with the team or not. Many fans also expect that the Guardians of the Galaxy will appear in at least one of the movies, given their previous experience with Thanos’ goons and the Power Stone. Then, of course, there’s some of the newer heroes who are just getting started in the MCU, like Doctor Strangeand Black Panther, along with a few supporting characters from a hero’s solo movie here and there.

As for appearances from characters who appear on the small screen, it was rumored last year that Netflix heroes like Daredevil and Jessica Jones could be thrown into the mix, but it was later implied that would be difficult to accomplish. Who knows, maybe even some of the folks from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could cameo, since they’ve also had experience dealing with extraterrestrial dangers. After all, it’s about time the founding Avengers learn that Phil Coulson is still alive.

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 hits theaters on May 4, 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 will conclude the story on May 3, 2019.

In the next few years, Marvel Studios has some very interesting scheduling planned for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only will they be releasing their first two-part blockbuster in the form of, but both Ant-Man And The Wasp andwill be released between the two halves of the story. This is posing a unique challenge for screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and it’s one being sorted through with constant communication and parallel developments in story and casting.

I spoke with the writers at thepress event earlier this month, and it was while discussing their work on the upcoming Infinity War that they revealed the process of how what they’re doing is syncing up with what’s going on in Ant-Man And The Wasp and Captain Marvel . Markus described it as the duo being in "constant bugging mode," with the filmmakers behind those individual projects (like Peyton Reed, Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve) on their speed dial. Miming the kinds of conversations they’ve been having, Markus and McFeely said,
Christopher Markus: ‘Do you know yet? Do you know yet? Because I really need to know!’

Stephen McFeely: ‘We have a few scenes that are sort of… it’ll look like this, but you need to cast somebody. We need to know what that story is more than we do now.’ It’s fun!

Speaking to Marvel StudiosPresident Kevin Feige later in the same day, I asked him the same question about the overlapping developments of The Avengers: Infinity War , Ant-Man And The Wasp and Captain Marvel . He downplayed the connection between the films a bit, saying that the sync up as much as all other Marvel movies do, but did confirm that there will be some stars of the Cinematic Universe who will simultaneously be working on two different productions. Said Feige,
I don’t know if it’s any more or less than we always do. There’s a great degree of overlap when it comes to the shooting schedules, which I don’t know how interested your readers are in that. There are people who will be filming two different movies at the same time. As little as possible, but that’s a necessity. But in terms of story overlap, no more or less than how we usually do it.
Joe and Anthony Russo’s epic Avengers: Infinity War adventure will kick off withon May 4, 2018, and will be followed that same summer by Peyton Reed'son July 6th., which doesn't have a director attached just yet, will be the first Marvel Studios title of 2019, coming out on March 8th, and the Infinity War will come to a conclusion withreleased on May 3, 2019. iPad App Store Now Has More Than 30,000 Apps

Apple’s App store has a huge amount of applications for iOS devices, mainly for the iPhone and the iPod Touch, although it seems that iPad Apps are starting to catch up as there are now more than 30,000 paid and free ipad apps in the App Store.

The guys over at PadGadgethave been tracking iPad apps in the App store, and it looks like iPad apps are being added to the app store at a much faster pace.

When the iPad was launched, it took 178 days for the app store to reach 10,000 iPad apps, the next milestone of 20,000 iPad apps took just 60 days, and whilst the last milestone of 30,000 applications took just 48 days.

I am sure it wont be long before the iPad App store catches up with apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch, although they are quite a bit ahead of the 30,000 mark at the moment.

The Girl On The Train is a novel that was just released at the beginning of the year, but it’s already caught Hollywood’s eye, and the film adaptation is moving forward.

The first batch of casting announcements was already putting high-quality actors into place, but the newest reports are just piling more great actors on top of the already fantastic cast in this project.

Directed by Tate Taylor, the film will tell the story of a recently divorced woman who commutes on the train to work and every day passes the same perfect house with a seemingly perfect couple inside it. She fantasizes about what their life might be like. However, as you might expect, appearances can be deceiving, and the woman finds herself involved in a mystery regarding the "perfect couple." According to Varietythe two male leads are currently in talks, which would round out the film’s main cast. It’s an absolutely packed cast, so let’s take a closer look at some of the stars, shall we?



First things first, the actress who will be the literal Girl On The Train is none other than Emily Blunt , starring as Rachel. The "dramatic thriller" is one of the few genres of film that Blunt has not been attached at the hip to in recent months. She’s transitioned from her role in Into the Woods into being the top choice to play the new Mary Poppins , making her a go-to actress for all your musical needs. If you need a kickass action woman instead, however, Blunt is still a top choice. The Edge of Tomorrow star will next be seen in the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman , and can currently be found in theaters in the tense, action-packed Sicario .



One of the newest additions to The Girl On The Train , Chris Evans is currently in talks to play the role of Tom. Tom is Rachel’s ex-husband who is now remarried to Anna. This role looks to be about as far from Captain Americaas Evans can get, which may be the point. While it’s one thing to be known as the perfect boy scout in an entire film franchise, Evans likely is interested in playing other roles as well, as joining this project demonstrates.



Anna, Tom’s new wife, will be played by Rebecca Ferguson . The Swedish actress is coming off of her role as Ilsa Faust in the summer hit Mission:Impossible - Rogue Nation . She also had a role in The Rock’s Hercules film, but we’re not going to talk about that. Instead, we’ll focus on where she’s headed, since she’s been rumored as one of the frontrunners for the lead role in Marvel Studio’s Captain Marvel .



Jared Leto is in talks to portray the male half of the perfect couple who is idealized by Blunt’s character. Leto is one of the actors who doesn’t really have a type of film, or type of character. He’s pretty much played everything at one point or another – and completely disappeared into parts while doing so. Whether playing the newest incarnation of The Joker, a transgender AIDS sufferer or anything else he comes up with, Leto always brings something special to his roles. We fully expect the same from him in The Girl On The Train .



Joining Jared Leto, the female half of The Girl On The Train ’s (not so) perfect couple will be portrayed by Haley Bennett . Her name may not be one that you recognize right now - unless you specifically remember her from The Equilizer - but by the time this movie hits theaters you likely will. She has a role in Terrence Malick’s new movie, and she’ll also be in the remake of The Magnificent Seven .

This looks like one heck of a cast to put together. It certainly makes us excited to see Girl on a Train make it to theaters soon.

Emily Blunt's Character For The Girl On The Train Sounds Fascinating, Horrifying

Over the last few years, Emily Blunt has made a habit of playing tough-as-nails characters, from her role as a badass FBI agent battling cartel violence in Sicario to her armor-wearing turn tussling with aliens and saving Tom Cruise’s ass in Edge of Tomorrow .

. While those roles are difficult, she says her latest part, in the upcoming adaptation of The Girl on the Train , is the most challenging thing she’s ever done.

It wasn’t the physicality of the part that drew Blunt to the part, but the idea of playing damaged, addicted woman. Talking to Deadline32-year-old actress said: I love that your heroine, your lead character is the most unreliable witness in the world because she’s a drunk. And yet she’s right, and nobody believes her. The idea of playing a part like that where you just feel like you’re drowning is exciting. I’ve never played a blackout drunk before, so this is new to me now.
Emily Blunt plays a woman named Rachel Watson in director Tate Taylor’s ( The Help , Get On Up ) adaptation of Paula Hawkins’ best-selling novel of the same name. Rachel is one of three narrators in The Girl on the Train . An alcoholic reeling from her recent divorce, she rides the same commuter train every day, seeing the same people, imagining their lives outside of the train, especially one couple whose life appears to be perfect and idyllic. Things are not as they seem on the surface, however, and when she witnesses a murder, her life goes off the rails (sorry, I had to).

I haven’t read Hawkins’ book, but given the set up, the multiple points of view, and the mystery/thriller elements, it’s easy to understand why it has garnered comparisons to Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl and David Fincher’s subsequent Ben Affleck-starring film interpretation.

It’s going to be interesting to see if the adaptation of The Girl on the Train maintains the three-pronged narrative approach. Offering different perspectives would certainly serve to enhance the unreliable nature of Emily Blunt’s character. This unique set up definitely sounds like an interesting challenge for a performer, and it is not difficult to see why Blunt is so excited for the role.

Outside of Emily Blunt, The Girl on the Train has put together a fantastic castall around. Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation star Rebecca Fergusonplays Anna, while Haley Bennett ( The Equalizer ) plays Megan, the other two narrators. Edgar Ramirez ( Point Break , Luke Evans ( Furious 6 ), Lisa Kudrow ( Friends ), Justin Theroux ( The Leftovers ), and Allison Janney ( Mom ) round out the credits.

The Girl on the Train is currently filming as we speak and will be released on October 7 of this year.

It has been a while since we have heard anything about the next generation Apple iPa d or iPad 2, now it seems that Apple has already starting filming commercials for the iPad 2.

There are reports that Apple hired photographer David Sims to shoot the new iPad 2 commercials, and they were apparently shot at New York’s Pier 59 last month.

It seems that the existing iPad was used in the commercials, and that these will be replaced by the iPad 2 before the commercials are aired. It seems that the participants of the new commercial had to sign a non disclosure agreement, although we suspect one of them may have leaked the information.

What will certainly help her profile grow is signing on to new and exciting projects, and that's exactly what she's doing by entering negotiations for the new thriller The Girl on the Train .

According to Deadline, the Swedish actress is now in talks to sign a deal that will see her starring alongside Emily Blunt in the Tate Taylor-directed thriller. Based on the novel of the same name by author Paula Hawkins, the project is expected to have three key female roles, and now it seems that two of them have been filled.

Emily Blunt will star as the central protagonist of the story, and the titular girl on the train. She plays a recent divorcee who finds herself fantasizing about a seemingly perfect couple that she sees on her train ride every day to work. Things turn dark, however, when she believes that she see something shocking happen in the house, and she winds up "entangled in the mystery that unfolds." Sadly, the trade report doesn't mention the role that Rebecca Ferguson will be playing in the thriller. The tone of the movie is being likened to, though it's pretty obvious that there is some inspiration from Rear Window in the plot as well.

In addition to the fact that The Girl On The Train is really starting to build an awesome cast, an interesting part of this news is that it's actually affecting one of the biggest casting races in town. About two weeks agoRebecca Ferguson was shortlisted for the female lead in the newmovie opposite's Lea Seydoux, and's Abbey Lee. Ferguson is apparently now bowing out of that competition, so it seems that is now a two horse race. We will presumably be hearing the results in the next couple of weeks.

Ferguson will surely start getting a lot more high profile opportunities after the success of, but her next two features are small ones. First up is writer/director Shamim Sarif's period romantic thriller Despite The Falling Snow , which was filmed in Serbia and doesn't have a release date yet. She has also completed work on Stephen Frears' Florence Foster Jenkins , which also doesn't have a release date, but features Meryl Streep in the titular role and has Hugh Grant in a supporting role.

It's not entirely clear when The Girl On The Train is going into production, and no release date has been announced, but we'll keep you updated with details as they become available.

Apple Confirms iPad on Sale April 3rd 9am

Today Apple started shipping its pre-ordered Wifi iPads and has confirmed this morning that the new iPad Wifi version (not the Wifi + 3G) will be on sale on across the United States in all 221 Apple retail stores, together with “most” Best Buy stores from this Saturday April 3rd at 9am.

According to web reports only Apple Solutions Consultants (ASC) badged Best Buy stores will be stocking the new iPad. Which will be priced at $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB, and $699 for 64GB.

The Wi-Fi + 3G models will be available in stores late April priced at $629 for 16GB, $729 for 32GB and $829 for 64GB version.

The iPad has been a great success for Apple, and we are expecting them to announce the second generation iPad early next year.

The iPad has been a great success for Apple, and we are expecting them to announce the second generation iPad early next year. According to Digitimes, the iPad 2 or iPad HD, or whatever Apple decides to call it will be shipped by February 2011.

Digitimes are reporting that Foxconn, the current manufacturers of the iPad and iPhone will begin shipping the iPad 2 within the next 100 days, which could mean by the end of February 2011.

It looks like the initial iPad2 shipments may be around the 400,000 to 600,000 mark, and these will increase until it goes on sale in the early spring, which would tie in with the one year anniversary of the launch of the original iPad.

We are hoping that the iPad 2 will have a range of new features over the existing model, one of the rumored new features is dual cameras, to take advantage of Apple’s FaceTime software that is currently available on the iPhone 4.

We are also expecting to see a higher resolution display in the iPad 2, either a similar display to the Retina Display in the iPhone 4 or a HD display which we suspect will support HD video in 720p rather than full HD in 1080p.

PS4 Deserves To Beat Xbox One, Former EA CEO Says

“In the battle of big ideas … there was a clash of ideas that really separated Sony and Microsoft.

Former EA CEOJohn Riccitiello believes that the PS4 is beating Xbox One in sales because of a simple reason: Sony had a much better strategy.

While speaking at the GamesBeat Summitthis week, Riccitiello said that Microsoft's missteps were "depressing."

“In the battle of big ideas … there was a clash of ideas that really separated Sony and Microsoft. They actually had very similar architecture that they were trying to bring to the table. But Microsoft focused … a lot on entertainment beyond gaming. Microsoft was trying to [compete against] Apple. They didn’t feel gaming was big enough to justify the pent-up desire … to have the recognition they wanted as an innovator.”

While Microsoft was trying to hype their Xbox Oneas an all-in-one entertainment system, Riccitiello said, Sony put their energy into wooing gamers.

"Sony just said, ‘We’ve made the best fucking game system we could’ … partly because they didn’t have the resources to do more about it. Microsoft was focused on the shot after the one they needed to make, putting the 7-ball in the corner pocket, but they missed the first shot and didn’t get another shot after it. Sony focused on the shot they needed to make, which was win the hearts and minds of the gamer."

"The broader scope of entertainment might be a bigger idea, but not with an unfocused execution. A tight execution on the 50 million people that matter, which are the people currently lapping up consoles … Sony fucking nailed it, and they deserve the victory.”

Riccitiello is simplying things a bit. He didn't mention the initial always-on restriction of the Xbox One and used games fees. Those policies and the backlash against them overshadowed all other discussions about the Xbox One in the months after its reveal. By simply not having these same restrictions for the PS4, Sony had a big headstart in the PR battle. The initial $500 price tag of the Xbox One- a hundred bucks more expensive than the PS4 - didn't help, either.

Still, I think Riccitiello's take is an interesting one. It underscores the importance of how Microsoft and Sony presented their new consoles. The Xbox One and PS4 have more similarities than differences. Sony could have just as easily introduced the PS4 as a general entertainment device rather than a gaming console. Like the Xbox One, the PS4 has apps for TV, moviesand music. Sony is using the PS4 as a platform for original TV programmingas Microsoft is with the Xbox One.

I do wonder how the past 18 months would've gone if Microsoft had done the same. The Xbox One still had other stumbling blocks like the price tag and restrictive DRM policiesbut they might have won over a few more million gamers if, from the start, Microsoft was speaking directly to them.

The system outsold the PlayStation 4 by more than 25,000 SKUs and was helped on the market by the late October launch of Halo 5: Guardians . Microsoft's reps have a clear answer as to why the Xbox One won October, despite the PS4 taking a price cut during the month down to $349.99.

Supplying a statement to Gamespot, Microsoft's marketing corporate VP Mike Nichols stated the following as the reason the Xbox One beat the PS4 in October...

While it's true the Xbox One is up 81% this past October compared to last year, all of the entire first half of that comment is categorically, critically, numerically and financially false.

Technically, one of the greatest periods for the Xbox brand was between summer and fall of 2007.

Microsoft had a strong late summer that led into the holiday season, with the timed exclusive release of Irrational Games' BioShock , which managed a 96 rating on Metacriticand went on to be a huge seller across multiple platforms. Later in August they had the JRPG exclusive Blue Dragon from Mistwalker Studios, which managed a 79 out of 100 on Metacritic. In August of this year Microsoft had the Rare Replay and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition as their major releases, peppered in with a bunch of indie titles. The Rare Replay managed an 84 on Metacriticand Gears of War: Ultimate Edition managed an 82 out of 100 on Metacritic.

Back in 2007 Microsoft followed BioShock with John Woo's Stranglehold , which was another timed exclusive, and the racing game Fatal Inertia . They then had the JRPG Eternal Sonata , another timed exclusive for the Xbox 360, in mid-September followed up with the September 25th release of the console exclusive Halo 3 .

As far as big name exclusives in September for 2015 go, there was only Forza Motorsport 6 , which managed an 87 on Metacritic. By comparison, back in October of 2007 there was Project Gotham Racing 4 , which managed to hit an 85 on Metacritic.

What's interesting is that Halo 3 landed a 94 on Metacriticwhen it released, compared to the 85 that Halo 5 received on Metacritic.

Despite both games releasing around the end of their respective months – with Halo 5 launching on October 27th – Halo 3 helped push the Xbox 360 to over 527,800 SKUs being moved throughout September, according to a report from 1up.com. The Xbox 360 was the best selling console the month of September, 2007, beating out the Wii at the time, which moved 501,000 SKUs.

By comparison, NeoGafhas reported that Halo 5 helped the Xbox One move 303,000 SKUs throughout October. An argument, however, could be made that Halo 3 was buffered with other notable exclusives on the Xbox 360 to help push the hardware sales.

According to that 1up report Halo 3 moved 3.3 million units throughout the end of September, where-as the Neogaf stats show that Halo 5 only moved 935,000 units but still managed to become the best selling game of October, egging out a lead over NBA 2K16 and Assassin's Creed: Syndicate . Of course, the latter number does not accommodate for digital sales, so in a physical SKU comparison Halo 3 dominates clearly, but the numbers could look slightly different when accounting for Halo 5's digital sales.

As far as month-to-month sales comparisons with a big Halo release go, this year was not the biggest for the Xbox brand by a long shot if we're going by hardware sales, software sales and Metacritic. The Xbox One, even with the timed exclusive of Rise of the Tomb Raider , was not able to beat the 2007 line-up in sales, which also featured the release of Tomb Raider: Anniversary on the Xbox 360 in late October.

The Xbox 360 also had a follow-up from Halo 3 with the fall release of The Orange Box, Ace Combat 6 and BioWare's original Mass Effect in November.

The Xbox 360 had six major AAA exclusives released in October and November in 2007. By comparison, the Xbox One only has Rise of the Tomb Raider and Halo 5: Guardians . Hardly the Xbox brand's “greatest line-up”. They were mostly able to beat Sony in October of this year due to a poor showing of exclusives on the PS4's end and a lot of Black Friday deals leaking early showing Sony's console being discounted by up to $100, which likely prompted a lot of people to hold off on making a purchase in October.

On the upside, it at least looks like Microsoft is moving a lot of hardware units, increasing the Xbox One's install base steadily over the course of the year. Back in 2007 Microsoft reportedly shipped 6.6 million Xbox 360 SKUs throughout the year, according to their financial report. So if the Xbox One goes from the 10 million base they had at the start of the year to around 16 million by the time the year wraps up, they'll at least maintain a similar sales pace to the Xbox 360 back during that same time.

Overall, though, hardware across the board for October, 2015 was down slightly to $270 million compared to October, 2014's $271 million. The seventh-gen consoles saw a 66% sales dive while the eighth-gen consoles saw a 12% sales increase. According to the NPD, 96% of the hardware sales in October were from bundles.

Xbox One Backwards Compatible Games: The Full List Of Xbox 360 Titles Playable On The New Console

One of Microsoft's biggest announcements at E3 2015 was backwards compatibility for Xbox One .

. Xbox One owners will be able to play Xbox 360 games on their new console when the feature publicly launches this fall.

The only Xbox 360 games that can't work on Xbox One, Microsoft says, are ones that require hardware accessories such as Kinect. This means games like Rock Band , Dance Central and Rocksmith will never be playable on XB1.

You can play supported titles you already own by going to My Games and Apps and downloading them to your Xbox One. If you have the disc, you can simply insert it into your Xbox One and install the game. They'll look exactly as they did on Xbox 360 but they'll support modern features like broadcasting, game streaming and screenshot capture. Furthermore, your Gamescore and achievements for Xbox 360 games will carry over to your Xbox One.

Backwards compatible games also support online multiplayer. Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners can even play with each other in multiplayer. You can do that by inviting friends on Xbox 360 to a party.

You can vote for new backward compatible games at Xbox Feedback. While the vote doesn't guarantee that these Xbox 360 games will eventually be playable on Xbox One, an avalanche of fan support couldn't hurt.

Apple Files 45 iPad UI Patents In Europe

Apple has filed a total of 45 patents with the European Patent and Trademark Office, the 45 patents relate to the UI on the Apple iPad, and although these patents were listed in the database in January 2011, they seem to be backdated to July the 27th 2010.

The 45 patents cover pretty much everything to do with the user interface on the Apple iPad, such as the virtual on screen keyboard, to the calendar, mail app and the iPads home screen.

Obviously with number of other companies launching tablets this year, Apple are looking to to make sure all of their design elements for the iPad UI are protected.

The Patent filing list Johnny Ive and and a large list of other Apple designers, with different groups of designers listed between the 45 different patent filings.

Xbox One Games Will Support Oculus Rift

Microsoft recently announced in conjunction with Oculus that the Rift will be compatible with the Xbox One through Windows 10 and that every unit will come with an Xbox One controller.

Microsoft recently announced in conjunction with Oculus that the Rift will be compatible with the Xbox One through Windows 10 and that every unit will come with an Xbox One controller. The news has created quite a bit of buzz leading up to the Oculus Rift launch in 2016.

Over on the Xbox news wire, it's announced that Microsoft and Oculus have collaborated together and they tease some big news on the horizon along with letting loose a new three minute video featuring Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb.



So, as mentioned, every Oculus Riftthat's sold will come with an Xbox One controller. The controllers are compatible with the Xbox One, the Oculus Rift, Windows 10 and Windows compatible tablets.

Phil Spencer commented about the news, stating...
We’re thrilled to be working closely with the team at Oculus. Their groundbreaking work in virtual reality is inspiring, and the Oculus Rift delivers a truly next-generation VR experience, […] We at Xbox are passionate about giving gamers the opportunity to play when and where they want. I can't wait to see the incredible games created for the Rift, and we are proud to be part of the experience.
One of the really neat things about the Rift is that it's designed to work natively with Windows 10. What this means is that you won't have to get some third-party API, firmware or back-alley program to optimize the Rift for your Windows 10 gaming or virtual reality exploits.

One thing to keep in mind in all of this, though, is that Microsoft has made it known that Oculus Riftgames can be streamed to the Xbox One through Windows 10. They don't mention running Rift games natively on the Xbox One, and that makes sense given that the recommended requirementsfor playing games through the VR device are extremely steep. The Xbox One doesn't have the horsepower to run Rift games natively, which does make me question how Sony will handle the Morpheus on the PS4.

Nevertheless, due to the shared nature of software between the Xbox One and the Windows 10operating system, gamers will be able to use their Xbox Live profile on Windows 10 and stream various Windows 10 games directly to the Xbox One. This was a long-rumored feature for both platforms, especially since it was already confirmed that gamers would be able to stream Xbox One titles to Windows 10.

There will also be a lot of benefits on the PC's end with native DirectX 12 side, which should help Rift games run smoothly enough on PC to allow for decent enough frame-rates to stream those games to the Xbox One.

Of course, if you're planning on buying a pre-built Windows 10 desktop to work in conjunction with your Xbox One or if you're looking to upgrade your current PC to run Windows 10, keep in mind that the bare minimum graphics card you'll need to run Rift games at a decent frame-rate is an Nvidia GTX 970.

Windows 10 is set to go live on July 29th, 2015.

Microsoft Catches Ire From Advertisers Over Xbox Entertainment Studios Shutdown

There's been some recent shakeups going on at Microsoft that has caused the major enterprise software company and video game manufacturer to take drastic cuts to their business operations.

There's been some recent shakeups going on at Microsoft that has caused the major enterprise software company and video game manufacturer to take drastic cuts to their business operations. It was recently reported that Microsoft axed 18,000 jobs from their total pool of more than 127,000 employees from their worldwide offices. Part of those cuts came from the closure of a division in the Xbox brand, the Xbox Entertainment Studios.

While the large majority of the 18,000 cuts came from the Nokia division, which saw 12,500 people let go from the company, only 200 individuals were let go from the Xbox Entertainment Studios subsidiary.With the closure stamped by the new CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, there came a torrent of ire from advertisers over the shuttering of the Xbox Entertainment Studios.

According to the Wall Street Journal, advertisers are not happy about the closure due to the fact that the shutdown happened only three months after the XBES pitched deals to major media advertisers, in an attempt to help build interest around planned scripted and documentary shows.

Two of the shows that were already in production will continue as planned, including “Signal to Noise” and the Halo television seriesthat will premiere on Showtime. The other shows that were in pre-production or early concept phases aiming to secure ad deals have been scrapped, sending a wave of fury through the advertiser marketplace.

According to Windows Phone Central, Vik Kathuria, the Global Chief Media Officer at Razorfish had some unkind words to share about the ordeal, saying that...
"It's insane given that's where the media business is headed…with one end focusing on programmatic and the other on original high-end content. Confidence will be hard to earn back after this."
The marketplace is stiff, however, as the programming end is occupied by the likes of Amazon's new Fire TV, Netflix, Hulu and other streaming distribution services and devices. Microsoft was coming into a market with a $500 console that they would have to try to get casual consumers to pick up in order to make exclusive Xbox media features a viable resource for original “high-end” content.

Some believe that if Microsoft had stuck to their guns and maintained the Xbox Entertainment Studios, they could have produced enough shows that garnered buzz from other major digital distribution services, ultimately allowing Microsoft to market their content to other media providers and expand their market breadth.

However, the above scenario was all depicted under the assumption that the original programming content that would come from out of the Xbox Entertainment Studios would be a success. As it stands, there's no way to know how well the content will be received by the core audience or the general public at large.

If Halo: Nightfalland the Halo TV series turn out to be a striking success then it's always possible that Satya could return to the division and see whether or not it's worth re-opening and pursuing as a long term goal.

For now, the new CEO is trimming the fat where needed and keeping the company running lean and in a focused direction.

Apple iPad 2 Coming In April

As we get closer to Apple announcing the second generation Apple iPad , the iPad 2 we are starting to here more and more rumors about the new iPad 2, the latest one is that the iPad 2 will launch in the US in April.

According to MacNotes, the iPad 2 will launch on either the first or second Saturday in April, and this sounds about right is Apple follows the same upgrade cycle as it has done with the iPhone in the past.

We are also hearing that countries outside the US will have to wait a couple of months to get their hands on the iPad 2, like we did last year as the original iPad launched in the US in April and the rest of us had to wait until June.

We are hoping that Apple will do the same thing with the iPad 2 as it did with the iPhone 4 and release it in Europe at the same time as it did in the US.

The iPad 2 looks like it may come with a range of new features, as we have previously heard rumors of dual video cameras and a higher resolution display, let hope we don’t have to wait too much longer for an official announcement from Apple.

iPad 2 Display Leaked?

We have been hearing a number of rumors about the new iPad 2, one of those is that it will feature a slimmer display, and now the guys over at 9 To 5 Mac have obtained a photo of what they are reporting is the iPad 2 display.

Apparently the iPad 2 display is about 1mm thinner than the existing display in the iPad, and also lighter, unfortunately there are no details on the actual resolution but it looks like the actual build quality of the iPad 2 display is superior to the first generation iPad.

From the photos it looks to have a smaller frame surrounding  the display than the existing iPad, you can see lots more photos of the iPad 2 display over at 9 to 5 Mac.

From the looks of it we could possibly see a slimmer iPad when the iPad 2 is announced, although the first generation is pretty thin when compare to other tablets so we suspect it wont actually be that much thinner than the existing iPad.

Hopefully we wont have long to wait until the iPad 2 is officially announced by Apple, as we have heard that Apple may announce the iPad 2 on the 9th of February.

The Evil Within Screenshots, Gameplay Details Are Full Of Horror

Bethesda has released the first plot details and screenshots for Shinji Mikami's The Evil Within .

Evil Within , announced this morning with a live-action trailer, is said to be a "return to pure survival horror."

The Evil Within stars a detective named Sebastian according to a translated press release. After arriving on the scene of a mass murder, he's attacked and knocked out by a mysterious force. He awakens in a world filled with monsters.

The announcement by Bethesda makes it clear that this is a horror game first and foremost. The player will navigate a world filled with threats with only limited resources at their disposal. Monsters and traps are both constant dangers. The world will continually distort according to player's actions as well, which sounds like a recipe for a lot of unexpected scares.

The Evil Within is the first project developed by Tango Gameworks. Tango was founded by Mikami, the creator of the Resident Evil series. His director credits also include Vanquish , God Hand and Dino Crisis .

The survival horror genre has been on the ropes in recent years. Resident Evil has essentially become a co-op shooter series. However, maybe The Evil Within can help resurrect the genre when it arrives in 2014.

Watch Dogs stars Aiden Pearce, a vigilante living in Chicago. The city's supercomputer controls all electronics in addition to monitoring its citizens. Aiden will hack into this systemto punish the powerful and corrupt.

The company has officially announced that the August 30th of 2016 will be the official release date for the Legion expansion.If you are interested in getting the game, you can pre-purchase it as a standard digital download, or a digital deluxe download that comes with additional perks and bonuses for Blizzard’s other games. The standard version will cost $50 while the digital deluxe version will cost $70.

Legion is what fans have been waiting for. It is the latest expansion in the World of Warcraft franchise. There will be a new Demon Hunter class and it will also raise the level cap from 100 to 110. If you don’t want to have to grind from level 1 to 110, you will be happy to learn that buying the game will also get you a free level boost to 100. Pretty sweet if you don’t want to grind.

It was previously rumored that Blizzard would introduce a trial boost system where players could test out a character class at level 100 to determine if this is what they wanted before locking their decision in too. It won’t be long now. All we have to do is wait. That’s the hard part.

High School Musical's Ashley Tisdale Headed To Sons Of Anarchy

In a bit of casting news that seems so unlikely, it could prove to be a slice of brilliance (or an awkward disaster), Ashley Tisdale is set to join Sons of Anarchy when the biker-focused series returns to FX for its fifth season.

Deadlineis reporting that Tisdale is set to join FX's Sons of Anarchy (presumably for the upcoming Season 5) for a two-episode arc, playing the role of Emma Jean, "a high-priced escort who complicates the club's life." That's a vague description, but it certainly sounds interesting.

I like Ashley Tisdale. She was funny as the oft-villainous spoiled brat Sharpay Evans in Disney Channel's High School Musical (and the sequels that followed), and has gone one to lend her voice, her sense of humor and face to a number of small screen projects, including spots on The Suite Life on Deck and Phineas and Ferb , not to mention a role on CW's cheerleader drama Hellcats. And a week agowe learned that she'd be filling the shoes vacated by Anna Faris as the star of the fifth Scary Movie . That in itself seemed like a step away from what we've seen from her in the past, as she seemed to be targeting the younger crowd with most of her work. But a spot on Sons suggests that she's also looking to tread into darker waters, especially if complicating the club's life involves something really problematic.

I have a bad feeling for her character already, but that's probably a good thing for the show, and for Tisdale, if she's looking to show people a side we haven't really seen yet. And as someone who likes the gritty biker drama, but also indulges in the occasional sugary-sweet made-for-TV Disney musical, I cant help but love this bizarre bit of casting.
