Microsoft has been consistent in offering a lot of bundle deals for potential consumers, constantly announcing different ways to get one or more games at a discounted rate. The latest bundle includes a digital copy of Ubisoft's upcoming post-apocalyptic title The Division and a 1TB Xbox One unit.
Major Nelsondropped the news over on the blog, where it was revealed that the 1TB Xbox One home console would come with The Division and that those who pre-order are guaranteed instant access to the upcoming closed beta test for the game that starts on January 28.
The bundle is available from participating retailer and e-tailers for $399.00. It's another competitively priced bundle that makes gamers stop and think about whether or not the console will be worth the plunge for $400 when it comes with 1TB and a free copy of The Division .
The regular 500GB units of the Xbox One are being shopped around from retailers at the regular $350 price point but dropped as low as $250 during the Black Friday rush when discounts, bundles and rebates were taken into account. Even despite dropping as low as $250, the Xbox One still couldn't outsell the PlayStation 4 during the vital holiday sales window offered throughout the month of November and early December.
The year wrapped up with Sony taking the final two months in strides, further cementing their lead with the PlayStation 4. Worse yet is that according to reports from Venture Beat, all the deep discounts and bundles weren't enough to help put any of Microsoft's exclusives on the board for the top 10 throughout the December NPD charts...much less the top 10 games for all of 2015.
At the moment, GameStop is offering pre-owned Xbox One units with 500GB at the $289.99 price point, which isn't all that bad. A pre-owned 1TB Xbox One unit is $339.99, which is $60 off the above mentioned bundle containing The Division .
Brand new bundles containing a 1TB Xbox One and Rainbow Six Siege are also available at the exact same price as the new bundle, costing gamers about $399.99.
I do worry if all of the bundles diminish the potential value in the eyes of some gamers of the Xbox console? Or if it creates confusion on what's worth getting? Back in 2014 and 2015, Microsoft also had a bunch of bundles for just about every major game that came out. Some of the bundles fared well like the Madden NFL bundles, while others were completely ignored like the Sunset Overdrive bundles.
We'll see how well the lure of closed beta access to The Division works for this latest cross-promotional bundle between Ubisoft and Microsoft. So far, all of the discounts, cuts and slashes in prices haven't been able to give Microsoft a leg-up on Sony, even in their hometown of the good 'ole U.S., of A, a territory where Microsoft used to dominate during the seventh generation with the Xbox 360.
The Division is set for release on March 8 for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
