There's trouble in beta paradise for Gears of War 4 fans.
fans. The scheduled beta that's taking place between April 18 and the 24 ran into a roadblock when some players realized that their beta codes weren't being sent out on time and it's because of an issue they encountered at Microsoft Operations.
IGNis reporting that Gears of War community manager Adam Fletcher explained on the official forumswhy the codes weren't being sent out to some first-adopters of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition , writing...
Microsoft Operations had an issue this morning with their code drop and unfortunately the codes will not be distributed in chronological order as originally messaged. We will be doing another code drop this evening to help address some of the issues. As noted before, codes will be going out in waves as we ramp up our servers through the beta.
The original plan was that codes were going to be sent out in chronological order. So everyone who first purchased Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox One on launch day, would have received their codes first to get into the Gears of War 4 closed beta. Everyone who purchased the game later on Xbox One and PC would have then received their codes, and then finally anyone who purchased the game on or directly before April 11 would have received their codes last.
However, as Fletcher points out, they ran into some issues at the HQ and now the codes aren't going out as planned. The chronological plan hit a road bump, but Fletcher doesn't exactly say what happened at Microsoft Operations that caused the codes to become messed up, but they're trying to recover the fumble as best they can.
It's a little sad because The Coalition has been preparing for the Gears of War 4 beta for quite some time. The multiplayer beta has been promoted and labeled as one of the big events of the spring all previous to April 18. The Coalition even recently sent out some promotional videos to help teach newcomers to the franchise how to make use of things like the cover fire, the new combat features such as vault-kicking opponents over cover, or using the new yank feature to pull opponents over cover and stab the crap out of them.
However, despite the hiccup in how the codes are being sent out, at least the codes are being sent out. As noted by Fletcher, they will sending out another code drop for Gears of War 4 later in the evening and throughout the closed beta test through April 21st. So if you haven't managed to get in yet even though you were an early adopter for the Ultimate Edition , you'll eventually get in.
Gears of War 4 is scheduled to release exclusively on the Xbox One on October 11th. Originally gamers were asking if there would be a PC version, but after the Windows 10 release of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and all the problems that ensued, chatter in the PC gaming community for Xbox One ports has died down.
