Ever wonder what The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time would look like running on a modern console? Well, thanks to Unreal Engine 4, we now know the answer. Spoiler alert: The answer is “fantastic.”

is the latest in a long line of talented individuals utilizing Unreal Engine 4 to show off what some classic games would look like with a fresh coat of paint. And by “fresh coat of paint,” I mean a complete remodel from the ground up.

For this project, CryZENx recreated the Gerudo Valley area from the Nintendo 64 action RPG, Ocarina of Time . Hailed by many to be the best Zelda game of all time, this masterpiece is even more stunning when run through the Unreal Engine 4 filter.

The impressiveness of this project goes beyond how great the level looks, too. The creator managed to get all of the small touches right, including the way Link moves, while adding in some super nice water, wind and dust effects to boot. Clouds cast shadows while moving overhead, heat radiates off of the desert sand and the plank bridge even gives under Link’s weight.

When Link calls on his fairy friend, the particle effects are particularly nice as the little helper flitters around. Sadly, we don’t get to see any combat or puzzle solving, which we imagine would have taken a heck of a lot more work to pull off. Still, we’ve never seen Ocarina look so good.

According to the video’s info, the creator ripped the map from the 3DS version of the game to serve as reference before going on to create everything seen above from scratch.

And now, a look at the equally impressive Temple of Time map.

Yep, that’s pretty fantastic. While not the original intent, this has served the purpose of getting us pumped to see what the next Zelda game looks like on the Nintendo NX (Unless Nintendo is only planning on a Wii U launch, which doesn’t seem all that likely.). It’s been a while since we’ve joined Link and Co.on a journey across Hyrule and, running on modern hardware, we imagine it’s going to look at least as good as what CryZENx has created here.
