Ford has officially rolled out a new special duty police vehicle that will be used by officers in different circumstances. The new vehicle is a police version of the F-150 truck offered on SuperCrew and SuperCab configurations. The special package adds a high-output alternator to meet power needs, an easy to clean vinyl rear bench seat and flooring.
The center console is removed to allow the placement of custom equipment in the truck. The Special Service Package is available only in XL trim and can be purchased in 4×4 or 4×2 drivetrains. The engine in the truck is either the 5.0 V8 or a 3.5L EcoBoost engine. That high-output alternator delivers 240-amps to allow the truck to idle for extended periods without having issues with power.
“Many officers need the extra space F-150 Special Service Vehicle offers,” said Stephen Tyler, Ford police marketing manager. “They can load the cargo box with equipment and still fit five people inside. Its utility is unmatched.”
“We offer a whole family of police vehicles,” said Arie Groeneveld, Ford chief program engineer for police vehicles. “Our lineup aims to fulfill the unique needs of law enforcement officers, and our F-150 Special Service Vehicle is an extension of that offering. This vehicle definitely lives up to its Built Ford Tough reputation.”
