Everyone is going 4K, with good reason. And if you are shooting video footage in 4K, capturing images at high-resolutions, you will want a display with an equally high-resolution if you plan on editing it. If you are using an old monitor that can’t properly handle the high-resolution, then checking the details of your photo or video will be a pain and is hardly worth doing.
Well, Sony has you covered. At NAB 2016, Sony unveiled the PVM-X550.
This is a 55-inch OLD monitor with a 4K resolution. While you can use this monitor for all kinds of things like watching videos or surfing the web, it will really come in handy for those in the production field who might need to edit and checkout lots of video. Gary Mandle, Senior Product Manager, Sony Electronics says:
“As demand grows for 4K and High Dynamic Range (HDR) content, production teams and their clients need more tools for evaluating video. This new monitor delivers quad-viewing flexibility in a size that meets the need for larger, more detailed monitors in post-production suites. And, it’s a perfect complement to our BVM-X300 30-inch 4K OLED critical evaluation reference monitor.”
This monitor comes with a 12-bit output signal and will also let you customize individual display settings like Electro-Optical Transfer Function, Color Space, Transfer Matrix, and color temperature. It sounds pretty great to be honest. No word on pricing yet, but Sony expects the display to be made available this summer and that is when you can get one.
