With the impending launch of DOOM , Bethesda is gearing up to send players straight to hell.
, Bethesda is gearing up to send players straight to hell. You can get a feel for whats in store courtesy of a new live action trailer?
If you needed any further proof that Bethesda is breaking from a bit of tradition with this new DOOM , you need look no further than this latest video, called Fight Like Hell. The original Doom games were dark, gritty and, due to the limitations of the hardware at the time, more of a strafing shoot-a-thon than a full-on FPS.
Thats all changing with DOOM , which is pulling the beloved series kicking and screaming into the modern generation. The characters wear suits that look like theyd feel right at home in Halo or Mass Effect and have an impressive freedom of maneuverability. Apparently shotguns are still has handy as ever for pulverizing demons, which can be seen in all its violent glory in this new cinematic trailer.
Top all of that off with a screaming metal soundtrack, two instances of stomp on the dude, then shoot him in the head, and the arrival of a massive boss and the Fight Like Hell trailer makes a convincing argument that DOOM is aiming to be bigger, badder and faster than ever. We understand that this could be upsetting to longtime fans of the series but, for everyone else, maybe itll prove that you really can teach an old dog new tricks.
In case you were curious about who directed this fast and frantic look at the world of DOOM , its none other than Joe Kosinski, responsible for the films Oblivion and the super stylish Tron: Legacy .
According to the videos description, the trailer was made to show off the main pillars of DOOM sgameplay, including relentless combat, terrifying demons and bad ass guns.
Sadly, were still a full month out from DOOM s May 13th launch date for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, so this newest trailer might have to tide you over for a bit.
And while fan reaction to the games uninspired cover art may not have been that great, folks really seem to be enjoying the feel of this new trailer. Perhaps my favorite comment of all comes from Youtube user Noja8787, who stated that this one minute video was better than the Doom 2005 movie. Sadly, that is a true statement.
But, hey, if Bethesda manages to throw a dozen hours of this fast-paced action in our faces when DOOM finally launches, I think even the harshest of critics will finally be able to look past the Doom movie.
Again, it may not feel like classic Doom , but thats not necessarily a bad thing.
