All Heroes Of The Storm Characters Are Free For This Weekend

The Heroes of the Dorm finals are happening this weekend and, to celebrate, Blizzard is opening up all playable characters in Heroes of the Storm for a limited time.

In case you haven't been following all of the action on the Heroes of the Dorm website, the HOTS action is heating up this weekend with some top-notch collegiate competition. Along with bragging rights and all of that jazz, these players are basically competing for funds to cover their college education, which is certainly a huge prize for folks who don't like the idea of paying off student loans for a couple of decades.

The Dorm competition continues through the weekend into the grand final showdown Sunday, April 10, beginning at 5 p.m. PT. You can either watch a stream of those HOTS finals at the website linked above, alternatively you can actually tune into ESPN 2 or watch the competition streaming on the ESPN website.

If you didn't make it into this years competition and have aspirations of making a run on the Heroes Of The Storm crown next year, though, you're going to need to get in lots and lots of practice. Blizzard is offering a great way to do exactly that, too, opening up all of the heroes free of charge through the remainder of the weekend.

That's right, no matter what hero you want to take for a spin, they're available to you free of charge right now. And if you decide you like any of the characters you got to play gratis this weekend, you can always pick them up for a few bucks following the promotion.

An ongoing event, you can take advantage of this Heroes Of The Stormm celebration through this Monday, April 11, at 10 a.m. PT. During that same time and beyond, you'll be able to enjoy a 50 percent experience bonus, too, which actually lasts until Apri 18 at 10 a.m. PT. And in case that wasn't enough free XP for you, this week-long bonus also stacks with the 50 percent bonus you get for inviting friends to the game, so you could be leveling up super fast if you play your cards right.

From big collegiate showdowns, to appearances on ESPN, it's pretty great to see games given the professional treatment. These showdowns can be just as exciting as any sporting event and, even better, folks are starting to catch on to the fact that there's an audience out there for it.

Now, with more varied MOBAs like Overwatch and Paragon hitting the seem, along with more action-oriented standard MOBAs like Smite , it'll be interesting to see if the genre continues to grow by attracting a more varied audience.
