Perhaps one of Halo’s most iconic game modes, Infection, is making its way to Halo 5 multiplayer.
The announcement was made during a 343 Industries live stream, in which they offered a teaser trailer for the returning mode. You can take a look at the trailer below, or on their YouTube page.
Infection first made an appearance in Halo 3, modeled after the ever popular custom mode found in Halo 2, Zombie Mode. Since then the multiplayer game mode has been featured in both Halo Reach and Halo 2: Anniversary Edition.
Infection features two separate teams, splitting players off according to how many Alpha Zombies are to be in the round. The two teams, Survivors and Zombies, are then put into a map where they’ll go head to head.
If you are killed by a zombie, you switch teams and are then trying to help kill the remaining survivors. The goal of the survivor is to last until the end of the round, with odds of survival getting slimmer as each team mates is killed.
If only one player is left on the survivor team, they become “Last Man Standing”. At this point the player is given unique traits, typically a waypoint revealing their location is included. Survival becomes an extreme challenge at this point, unlikely that you’ll make it to the end of the round.
