Maisie Williams Just Threw Gas On Those New Mutants Rumors, Here's What She Said

FOX has done an impeccable job of cleaning up its Marvel mutant universe over the last few years.

FOX has done an impeccable job of cleaning up its Marvel mutant universe over the last few years. Following a hard reboot of the continuity with X-Men: Days of Future Past , the studio has gone on to show that niche characters can turn a huge profit with the success of Deadpool . With that in mind, the studio has set its sights to the future for something different, or more specifically, something new.

Rumors have swirled that Maisie Williamsa.k.a Arya Stark of Game of Thrones may join the highly-anticipated upcoming New Mutants film, and Williams herself has voiced her own support for that to rumor to materialize. Here’s what she had to say about the matter.
I can't say much about it at all, but I would absolutely love to be a part of it, to be a part of the Marvel family. New Mutants looks absolutely incredible and I’ve always loved the idea of spin-offs and Joshua Boone is incredibly talented. So, yeah, sign me up.
Maisie Williams recently spoke out to EWand addressed the potential rumors that she would sign on for the New Mutants film. Although she would neither confirm nor deny the validity of the rumors, she remains vocal in her desire to join the "Marvel family," and become a superhero in her own right. One thing is certain: when fans and stars want something to happen, chances are it will end up happening. (Right, Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool?)

The EW report also goes on to indicate that – if cast – Maisie Williams could potentially play a character from the X-Men universe known as Wolfsbane. Fans of the X-Men mythos will recognize Wolfsbane as a character with the ability to turn into (you guessed it) a creature with wolf-esque qualities. The New Mutants film will essentially provide a continuation of what fans have come to expect from the X-Men franchise: James McAvoy’s Charles Xavier teaching his institution of gifted youngsters how to properly harness their mutations and use them for the betterment of mankind.

If Maisie Williams does indeed sign on to become part of FOX’s X-Men universe, she won’t be the first alumni from Game of Thrones to cross over into the world of misunderstood superheroes. Her onscreen sister Sophie Turnera.k.a Sansa Stark has already made the transition, and will grace the silver screen as a young Jean Greyin this summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse .

At this point it remains to be seen whether or not Maisie Williams will sign on for the New Mutants film. Considering the mutant universe’s recent return to its former glory, and the rising popularity of the X-Men mythos, it seems like a smart career move. We will keep you posted regarding any and all pertinent details related to the New Mutants movie as they become available; be sure to check out the X-Men next when X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27.
