A new gameplay trailer has been unveiled by longtime publisher Atari. The development team working behind the game also posted a recent developer blog for GDC, detailing their progress on the development of the game and what gamers can expect from the revitalized franchise.
Over on the RollerCoaster Tycon World official website, a blog post from the executive producer from Area 52 Games explained that...
We know a lot of you have been asking about our release schedule, and we will be addressing that shortly. Our primary focus is and always has been making sure we release the best possible game. We have exacting standards RCTW must stay true to the franchise, be of AAA quality, and please our most dedicated fans, along with those who have yet to discover the magic of RCT.
So that's basically to say that they don't have a release date ironed out for this new and improved RollerCoaster Tycoon but they're getting there. The post does mention that once the product pages over on Steam and Atari.com go live that they will announce the official release date for the game.
Right now Atariis partaking in the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, California. They're likely getting involved in all the hijinks and technological shenanigans that have taken the gaming sphere by storm, such as Valve's new Steam Link, HTC's new VR headset, and the growing anticipation around the release of the Steam Machines, amongst other fanciful GDC nuggets such as the Unreal Engine 4 and Unity 3Dgame engines going free, along with the announcement of Source 2.
Speaking of VR and 3D immersion, a few of the clips in the trailer above definitely hinted at a cool possibility of what it might be like to test out the roller coasters in Roller Coaster Tycoon World . Combining the ability to build and customize your very own theme park with the option of play-testing certain attractions in the park with something like the HTC Viveor the Oculus Rift could add a whole new layer of interaction and visual immersion to the RollerCoast Tycoon universe.
All of the basic strategy game elements are also planned to make a return to the game, so fear not, this isn't like the Syndicate remake from EA a few years back where everything that made the first two Syndicate titles awesome were trashed in place of a generic but stylish looking first-person shooter.
This is more of a direct sequel to RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 from way back in the mid aughts, a decade ago, where construction and park management is the key gameplay foundation for the game. And unlike the more recent RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile , this newest game won't feature microtransactions and free-to-play elements. Additionally, RollerCoaster Tycoon World will be a full 3D construction playground, so you'll be able to explore and examine your theme park from every angle.
You can learn more about the game by paying a visit to the official website. Atari will roll out the release date for the game soon.
