Yesterday, it was reported that in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice , the underwater hero will be shown in video footagebeing held prisoner, and needless to say, he’s not pleased about his accommodations. Now it’s possible that Suicide Squad will explain how the hero ended up being captured, and it involves fighting a previously rumored gigantic villain.
According to Heroic Hollywood, Aquaman is captured by the U.S. government after fighting a mutated shark that is referred to as the "King of Sharks." Both are now being held at the same prison (i.e. the facility where all the Suicide Squad villains are located), while Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) runs tests on Aquaman. This backs up the report from earlier this year stating that Waller somehow obtained Aquaman’s tridentand keeps it in a trophy case. The article doesn't specify whether audiences will actually see this fight unfold or if it will just be mentioned.
Keep in mind that this report is unconfirmed, but if true, this is another thread connecting Suicide Squad to the rest of the DCCU. If we actually see Aquaman, whether he’s played by Jason Momoa or a cleverly disguised double, he'll be the second superherogracing the 2016 blockbuster. Leaked set videos have shown Batman in a car chase scenewith The Joker and Harley Quinn.
As for King of Atlantis’ adversary, this "King of Sharks" is obviously another name for the supervillain King Shark, a humanoid shark creature with super strength, regenerative abilities, and, of course, razor sharp teeth. While not as notable as Black Manta or Ocean Master, King Shark has fought Aquaman on many occasions in the comics, so an epic fight between them on the big screen is not unprecedented. Raymond Olubowalewas said to be playing Shark in Suicide Squad three months ago, but so far the villain has not been officially announced by the production.
Since Aquaman will be one of the leading superheroes in Justice League: Part One , eventually he’ll have to escape custody either in Suicide Squad or at the beginning of the first Justice League installment. One report concerning Joker earlier this year said that there will be a jail breakat the end of the film, so this could be how Aquaman is freed from the prison and eventually makes his way back to Atlantis, which would set up his 2018 solo film.
With or without Aquaman, moviegoers can see a diverse cast of comic book characters when Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
