Subaru is bringing a new racecar and driver Mark Higgins back to the Isle of Man hoping to set a new record for a car at the island circuit. Higgins grabbed the record for the 37-mile long course back in 2014 behind the wheel of an older WRX STi. His record setting time was 19 minutes and 26 seconds, blazing fast for a car around the 37.7 mile Snaefell Mountain Course.
ProDrive is a motorsports and engineering company in Milton Keynes that has built road and rally racing cars for Subaru since 1990. The new ride will be based on a new WRX and has been fitted with a big rear wing for down force. It also has flared wheel arches, a big front splitter, and lots of other tweaks. The car has been gutted and has a roll cage for safety.
Safety is a big thing for Isle of Man. The course is very tight, narrow, and difficult to navigate in parts. Motorcyclists racing the course die with shocking regularity at the event. Power for the racing car will come from a 2.5L flat four that marks 296bhp in stock form. We can expect lots more power in race trim.
