The European regulators have been looking into Google’s Android OS and according to a recent report, they may be getting ready to file antitrust charges against Google.
The European Commission started an investigation into Google’s Android OS back in April of last year, the investigation was looking into whether Google has abused its position with the dominant mobile OS by getting manufacturers to install its own applications on their devices.
Now the European Commission as sent out requests for further information to complainants asking them to reply within 24 hours, this could mean that the regulators are looking to take some sort of action against Google.
As the information has been requested quickly by the regulators, there is a good chance that there may be some sort of filing made against Google this week and there are rumors that there will be some sort of announcement on Wednesday.
If the European Commission does find against Google then it has the power to fine the company up to 10% of their previous years financial revenue, this was $74.5 billion in 2015, so if the EU decides to go for a maximum fine they could fine Google up to $7.45 billion, of course Google are likely to fight any ruling in court.
