Ratchet and Clank Just Got A Confirmed Release Date For PS4

Ratchet and Clank has gone down in video game history as one of the most beloved platformer adventure games to hit PlayStation, right alongside Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot .

. And with the development of the reboot of the first in the series, fans have been following progress carefully. Now, fans can pre-order the game ahead of its April launch and to celebrate, you can check out a brand new Ratchet and Clank trailer to help you wait.

PlayStation Blogput out a post yesterday that announced a confirmed release date of April 12 here in the United States along with a few stunning art pieces from the Insomniac Games team.

Ratchet and Clank for PS4 is a reimagining of the old Ratchet and Clank game that was originally released in 2002 for the PlayStation 2. It was released in an age that embraced cartoony, adventure-based platformers like Jak and Daxter . Now, with upcoming releases like Yooka-lay-lee and Lucky’s Tale , it feels like adventure-based, cartoon-styled platformers are making a comeback. And fans couldn’t be happier. Although one fan makes a solid point.

Ratchet and Clank will be releasing in the same month as Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End , Dark Souls III , and newcomer Quantum Break . Quantum Break will be an Xbox exclusive, so I don’t think Ratchet and Clank will have to worry much there. But it’s still very possible the release could get clipped by these other major triple A titles.

Almost at the same time as the PS4 release, the major motion picture based on Ratchet and Clank will also be releasing, so hopefully that gives Insomniac Games an edge to push past the glitz and glamour of major title releases.

The PS4 game will induce a nostalgic trip back to older Ratchet and Clank games, but with a new twist. There will be new planets, bosses and flight sequences along with a collection of other newly-added content. The game is following the storyline in the film, so both narratives will be told from the perspective of Dr. Quark. It’s an understandable marketing ploy, but it will all depend on how the story will resonate with fans of the older games.

You can pre-order your copy of Ratchet and Clank today and receive the exclusive weapon, The Bouncer. You can check out the new art on their Flickr. The game will be releasing in the US on April 12.
